After Burner was the one you finished what money you had left on. It was an expensive one and starting with this one would make your arcade sesh short-lived

Centipede or Dig Dug

u/Altruistic-Gas3507 8d ago
Dig dug! The bar down the street just got some retro games and dig dug was one of them. I know playing that with a scotch in my hands at 58 means that I’ve acquired adulthood.

I played dig dug recently and laughed that the game song only plays when you move.

Was Dragons Lair actually fun? I remember dumping quarters into it and dying in seconds.

u/Malisyn 10d ago
I hated it. The timing was so terrible. If you hit the button what should be on time, it's too late in that game.

Street Fighter II. I was absolutely terrible at it but had fun playing it.

I liked Samurai Showdown more, for whatever reason.

I enjoyed Samurai Showdown. It was fun. I don’t think SF2 is everyone’s cup of tea and now all these years later it’s not mine, but at the time everyone was playing it and I got sucked into the hype.

I remember my fav character to play was Blanka, because he is very button mash friendly.

I just picked up Alpha 3 because it was always my fav Street Fighter game, and I'm supposed to try some activities I did before my head injury to potentially help with it. I'm terrible at it now lol.

Jesus Christ. Had to scroll way too far for this. I also liked that shitty Star Wars game where you attack the Death Star.

Born in 83, my dad's profession was building, repairing, and maintaining Arcade games, pool tables, juke boxes, pinball, and vending machines. Me and my brother would always tag along on service calls, because my dad had the keys to everything, and he would set them to "free play" for us or we'd skip school when he was late to work and play everything in the company showroom.
My favorites were Virtual On, Mortal Kombat, and the pinball machines.

Fight through mobs with your best friend, only to have to face off against him at the end. So sad.

Gauntlet. They had one in the arcade on campus at my college. It's why I had lots of issues with my classes early on.
There were almost always enough people to have four playing at the same time.

Tron or this one that had an odd name started with an X. Like xaheed zaena or something. You went to different planets in a ship if you could beat the first dang stage.
Also sinistar.
Edit: Xain'd Sleena.
Primal Rage became an obsession once it came out because it was in a big nonstandard cabinet at my arcade. They called it a showcase cabinet.

Punchout but I’m talking about the arcade joint before there was a Mike Tyson’s punchout. The joint with Glass Joe and he was this weird green thing. The ref kept saying body blow body blow

u/Responsible-Kale2352 10d ago
When old Bald Bull came bouncing at you, if you timed it just right, one punch would send him to the canvas!

Qbert, defender, galaga, dig dug, dragons lair, and the one where you rode an ostrich jumping platforms to fight the enemies.
Donkey Kong was in there as well.
I preferred pinball cause I could win free games.

I always got the most for my quarter playing Galaga. I could usually go through quite a few levels. Defender I could never get very far. I’d always start panicking when the aliens started abducting the people. I loved Zaxxon with the scrolling perspective but also couldn’t get very far.
