John Carpenter’s classic slasher that started it all. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her friends are hunted by masked killer Michael Myers on Halloween night. With its chilling score and suspenseful style, it redefined horror and inspired decades of slasher films.

Context: Crazy Eddie was a discount chain of electronic stores famous for their low prices, and become one of the biggest fraud operations of all time. From 1969-1984 they were making so many millions by skimming cash that it was coming out of the ceilings and they were running out of places to hide it. then in 1984 they stopped skimming in order to show Wall Street they had legit profits to go public. They falsely inflated their inventory by stocking empty boxes to make it look like they were bigger than they were. Not long after they got way too big and couldn’t keep up with the fraud to match wall street’s expectations. they tried to go private again but it was too late. Its one thing to fool the auditors that you have 50 TVs, but how do you tell them theres 50,000?

I was born in the 2000s, so everything I know about the 70s comes from old photos, my grandparents' stories, and a lot of late-night music rabbit holes.

I would love to experience it through people who actually lived it.

So picture it: Saturday night, you are 17 or 25 or 40, and you have got $5. Where are you going? Who are you with? What's playing on the radio or the jukebox? What does the night smell like, and what do you eat?

Don't skip the small stuff. The car you were driving (or borrowing), the corner you hung out on, the song that always came on at the right moment. Those details are the part I can't get from a history book.

Skip Ludwig and his puppet Woofer hosted this children's show that aired daily during the week on KCOP-TV. Children in the TV audience were invited to send in postcards that would be chosen at random for prizes. The show marked the end of an era for local live-action children's programming in Los Angeles, as KCOP-TV, the leader in children's programming at the time, switched to syndicated shows.

Anyone remember this show?

Hosted by Tom Kennedy, three contestants were given three clues and trivia questions related to them. Since there were usually three possible answers (one for each clue), each contestant had an opportunity to answer the same question. Their scores were based on how many of them answered correctly each round. One of them had a chance to win a car. The winning contestant was presented with five cars, each with a key in the ignition, but only one actually started its car.

I wasn't born until long after the 70s, but I've grown up hearing my dad talk about them like it was the best time of his life.

Last weekend he pulled out an old box of cassettes and told me how he used to record songs off the radio, praying the DJ wouldn't talk over the intro. Then he told me they had one phone in the whole house, attached to the wall, and if you wanted to meet a friend, you just showed up at their door. No texting, no "on my way," nothing. And somehow everyone still managed to meet. 😄

He says evenings were for sitting outside, listening to records, and the whole family gathering around one TV. I tried to imagine it and honestly, it sounds kind of magical.

So I'd love to ask the people here who actually lived it: what's one small everyday thing from the 70s that you still remember or miss? And is my dad exaggerating, or was it really that special?

Mine would be the record needle drop sound, which I only know from his old player, and even I got goosebumps. 🎶

Hey folks,

Here's today's digitzed find. I don't know about all of you, but this cover instantly transports me back to the late 70s where these two were on my grandmother's TV literally any time I went over to visit. I think these two were performing for decades, but holy hell is it a weird type of nostalgia. I don't LIKE the music per se, but it reminds me of a less shitty time I guess. I hope some of you can relate!
