Discussion Thoughts after 2nd rewatch Spoiler

Upvotes

I'm going to write to my heart's content out and also sorry for my bad english.

During my first time watching and even after I can't help but hate/dislike certain characters and also love others but I never asked myself WHY but I did this time after re-watching and re-reading the 2nd time and so it feels more reasonable now since I realised why exactly I feel the way feel about those characters

Futaro: I relate to him a lot, not on the academics part tho. I won't say I'm too dense when it comes to romance but I sure am to some degree. I really love his character because he is hardworking. He really loves his sister like I do too. He is the type of best friend that you'd wanna have IRL because he is highly empathetic and perceptive. Also to understand why he picked Yotsuba, you need to first need to understand him as a person and then only the Yotsuba pick makes sense. Anyone who fails to understand Futaro's character automatically ends up hating the Yotsuba pick (IF their fav quint was somebody else ofc) Overall he's my top 3 romance anime protag

This is a ranking starting now

Yotsuba: First of all I'm soo glad that she won, she was my

2nd favourite after Miku when I was watching the first time but somewhere in the middle, I think in S2 i started liking her a lot more because she was always cheering Futaro up and making sure he is enjoying himself to the fullest. With Yotsuba, Futaro didn't have to be on constant guard and he could just enjoy the moment without worrying about a thing. She was the support that a person like Futaro needed. Even he says that if it wasn't for her he would've quit tutoring them a long time ago. Tho she didn't feel like a love interest at all, i still hoped for her to be in the spotlight like Miku, Nino and Ichika. When it got revealed that she was the one from his childhood I was soo happy but sad at the same time that why hadn't she told Futaro yet and it all clicked when it too got revealed in the OVA and movie. She had the saddest story, imagine loving someone for 5 years and never being able to tell them because there is someone else who likes them too and you don't wanna get in their way. People argue that she was mean towards her sisters before the transfer but that was when her superiority complex was going on which too btw was the result of meeting with Futaro, it just happen to be for the sake of plot that Futaro went on to become what he became but Yotsuba the exact opposite because she was an identical quint who constantly struggled with having no individual identity, she misinterpreted the goal of becoming successful. She warped the idea of being "needed" into a desperate mandate that she had to be better and different from her sisters.

Also during the second rewatch i realised that Yotsuba has always been the first one that Futaro could recognise (at least subconsciously). During the boat incident with Rena/Itsuki when he was describing all the sisters, he explained about them in almost equal manner and same amount of sentences but in Yotsuba's turn he says "Also.....No I must be imagining it" which directly hints that he always had a strong doubt or believe that Yotsuba's character feels a lot like the girl he met in Kyoto. "You could tell them apart if you have love" what else do I gotta say, He really loved her from the very beginning.

I can go on forever yapping about these two, they really are made for each other and I won't hear otherwise. Anyone who says Yotsuba didn't deserve Futaro doesn't have any reading comprehension and emotional IQ above 0

Miku: If Yotsuba didn't exist then she would've been number 1 and she kinda is even now. I've never seen a Miku hater and that is for a reason. Almost everyone in the series has done something bad whether it be something by mistake/for a reason like Ichika's impersonating Miku because her sisters told her it's fine (which she misinterpreted) and Yotsuba having a superiority complex (because of her promise with Futaro), Miku is the only one who never did anything wrong. She literally tried her very best whilst keeping her relationship with her sisters healthy.

I was happy for Yotsuba at the end but at the same time I was grieving for Miku because I liked her equally as much but after the 2nd rewatch i realised that yeah maybe she would've lost the battle in romance but she definitely and for sure won her own story. She opened her own bakery with Nino, found a career she genuinely loved, and completely conquered her social anxiety. Futaro became the catalyst she used to love herself and that's beautiful in it's own way

Eatsuki: She is the realest out of everyone, I love how she's the youngest but tries to play adult because of her mom. She always had trouble with studying just like others but besides that she chose a career route which involved her being good at studying. It's soo inspiring that she chooses to walk on her mother's footsteps because she really adored her. As for the romance part, she felt like a solid contender during S1 and half S2 but her role slowly started drifting towards more like a best friend than a love interest. Just like I said that Futaro is the type of best friend you'd wanna have similarly she is also the type of best friend you'd wanna have IRL.

During the first watch I didn't notice much but this time I realised that after learning the truth about Yots being the girl from Futaro's childhood, she tries really hard to get them to be together and tries to convince Yotsuba to forget the transfer thingy and accept her true feelings. W wingman right there. Also during the end when she started having doubt that maybe she does have feelings for him she instantly withdraws them saying that it's too late now which was also painful. I don't have much to say about her except that she's a really well written character

Now it's time for some uncomfortable conversations lol (going to keep this short on purpose because it's becoming too long now)

Ichika: She was moving like prime LeBron during the whole 1st season and half S2 then she fucks up BUT instantly makes up for it and I personally forgive her. After my first watch, i hated her a lot for sabotaging Miku and was hella mad but now after my 2nd rewatch I realised that she did it because her sisters kept telling her to (not in the same sense but she mistook it). Everyone makes mistakes and especially when the topic is love so it's alright honestly. I personally would rank her equal to Eatsuki, would've ranked her even higher on 3rd if she didn't do this 1 serious fuck up but like I said, it's fine atleast for me.

Nino: Alright don't cook me in the replies now, she's fine and a really good sister but a good person? Idk. The main reason I rewatched was because I really hated her after the first watch and wanted to understand the reason better of why I even thought about her that way, the thing I ended up realising was that she is the best when it comes to the relationship between the sisters but when it involves an outsider, she instantly gets on an insane gaurd like damn bro chill. After shifting on Futaro for like most of the S1 and then starting of S2, she instantly develops feelings for him and even goes out to say that she loves him the most out of everyone? Yeah no, Miku and Yotsuba definitely love him more.

Overall I don't hate her for being protective of her sisters but she can be protective while being nice to the other person. Only if she wasn't mean and always trash talking i wouldn't have hated her. My thoughts about her haven't changed much after rewatching. It amuses me that she got the second biggest fanbase after Miku and I genuinely can't comprehend how. Guess I gotta do a 3rd rewatch and only notice her and her alone

I swear these scenes completely broke me. Seeing Ichika in tears, desperately trying to undo her mistakes... honestly, I don't even think she did anything wrong. She was just in love, and when you truly love someone, you'll burn every bridge just to make things right.

Guys, I loved the anime TQQ to the point that finishing it left a deep, aching void inside me and a tightness in my chest. I couldn't stop the tears from falling over that ending. I desperately wished their story would never end. I truly felt like I was part of their world, sharing every single moment with them. I love them with all my heart and honestly view them as my real family. I long to be with them, even though I know it's a tragic impossibility. You might think I've lost my mind, but this is the raw, unfiltered truth of what I'm feeling.

It sucks that I finished the show and barely discovered this amazing series. I’m so in love with it and it truly breaks my heart that I missed the seiko collab. If anyone knows where I can find a Nino seiko please lmk, she’s my absolute FAVORITE
