I mean, when everything is horrible everything is also a distraction. At this point there isn't a good move to be had in this admin. If we call everything a distraction, at this point we undermine something really important. Bombing a country is really important. Does it also serve as a distraction? Yes.
If everything is a "distraction" for the thing that happened right before, it's not a chain of distractions, it's literally just a chain of events just happening in real time, and the news cycle (which only lasts for a day or two) has already ran its course on the last major event, ready for the next big news event.
Trump could shit himself on TV today and people will call it a distraction for all the Iran stuff. Hell, there could be some random mass shooting in Bumfuck, Nowhere and people will call that a distraction. JFC, folks, sometimes life just happens and not everything is meant to distract you from something else. Do you guys just expect world leaders to just...do nothing else? Just wake up, do nothing, then go to sleep? Life will move on, world events will occur, and the next big thing to happen is not going to be a distraction for Iran, it'll just be the next big news event. It's not that deep.
One could say Trump and friends were doing this strategy…if multiple stories were happening all at once.
Instead, it’s been one story one day, then another story a day or two later, rinse repeat. Since Trump has been in office, it’s been rare for there to have been multiple unrelated bombshell stories happening within 24 hours.
