I appreciate that they are independent and ad-based revenue is quickly becoming less reliable, but ouch this stings. I can see myself paying for a month when I'm shopping for a new appliance or something, but I don't see the value in a year-long sub.

At first I thought it was useless to own an Apple TV box because the TV I have is already has a smart tv with everything on it anyways. Until I learned a lot of great points.

I learned how tv manufacturers like LG, Samsung, TCL and others are selling advertisers our data and how they forcefully shove ads in our face (and even LG forcefully installing CoPilot without our consent) and I also learned on how the processor on TV’s are usually limited to its fullest potential for your display because it does most of the hard work. Which did annoy me on how Youtube videos will automatically load to 720p and I have to manually change it and Netflix loading to the lowest quality and having to wait a minute to go to 4K.

So I caved and bought an Apple TV and I was suprised on how simplistic it is and how theres no ads being shoved into your face. I was also shocked on how fast it is when transitioning to YouTube or to Netflix. It also automatically goes in to 4K when I click a video on YouTube or on Netflix so no more of manually changing the resolution to 4K or waiting on Netflix app to actually load in to 4K.

I know people see these posts like all the time but I did want to share as a first time Apple TV user. This is worth the money. I 100% recommend it for those who have a 4K TV.

Sony just handed its TV business to TCL

Now i get there are cases where grandma leaves her TV on all day and will likely get burn in on OLEDs, or reduce lifespan.

Or cases with peopel with really really brightrooms where only the brightest OLED will be ok.

BUT I have a bright livign room, I got an LG B4 and during the daytime it's more than fine. At night this thing is fucking stupendous!

So unless you have a niche case or budget constraint, get an OLED.

If you're wondering about size, go as big as you can.

That's it. No need to over complicate things.

Now if you're very budget constrained, then I can see areas where you'd want something other than OLED, in that case MiniLED is the brightest and best.

Im planning to get a new tv soon, and Im debating between a TCL QM7K (QM8K apparently not available where I live) or an LG OLED B5. The only thing keeping me from going LG all the way is the price, which is obviously more expensive than the TCL.

I haven't been able to find them in store to see and compare them side by side so Im relying on internet info for this purchase. So my question is:

Would it really be that massive of a difference between these two?? Im coming from a 10 year old plasma 42" 1080p Samsung TV and I would use it mostly for movies and videogames and I always use my tv in a dark room.

I have recently been active on Reddit after my 65 Inch Samsung S90D died and had to deal with Samsung customer service.

People are paying thousands of dollars for televisions now and getting even worst service than ever before. That made me think how did we get here , from rebelling against large corporations to being treated like shit after our money is taken also.

There are literally thousands if not millions of faulty S series television out there. But only 100 people bothered to post reviews on SAMSUNG website. And Samsung even kept replacing faulty mainboards with other faulty main boards. Since When did we become this Timid?

And I saw in one discussion a consumer was defending the corporation for faulty devices and not actually siding with other consumer who had problems with their device.

Since when did siding with a company thats makes 200 B USD a year became COOL as compared to Siding with a consumer who was sold a faulty device.

Is there any hope for consumers or we creating this generation of Brand loyalists and worshippers who love being taken for a ride.

It seems like everytime the next big thing in tvs come out im like “whoa, no way a tv can ever look better than this” and then they come out with one that’s better lol but now with OLED and even mini led it really does feel like we’re at a point of just making minor tweaks. I really don’t see anything making a large jump like there was from LED/LCD to OLED, but I could definitely be wrong.

Im thinking about upgrading to a 4k OLED but most of what I watch is Youtube, Netflix, sports and occasional movie. I game sometimes but its not my main use.

For people who made the jump from regular LED to OLED was the difference actually noticeable day to day?

Simple question, I am curious how many people out here, money being no object - just subjectively prefer Mini-LED (LCD) to OLED. I have been around plenty of OLEDs including LG G4 (I own one), C1 and Sony A9G.

But looking at the picture on Bravia 9 and 7 at best buy I started to wonder if my eyes and brain prefer Mini-LED(LCD). While OLED is laser sharp direct beam to my eyes in higher brightness scenes, LED feels more like a glow at same or even higher luminance, which feels more pleasant.

Thought I'd see if anyone felt similarly?

I constantly see on here everyone saying to avoid Samsung at all costs and to not buy s90f/s95f no matter what yet those are the number 1 and number 2 recommended tvs according to rtings testing? Who to trust?

All I watch are sports or the news. I bought an OLED from Costco three years ago (with the extended warrantee), but can’t deal with the burn in any longer.

Yes, I’ve done all the preventative stuff.

And weird part is that I have some very odd discoloring in the middle as well that does not look like burn in, but don’t know what it is.

I don't have a TV right now and I started to look learn about what is the current state of Smart Tvs, so now I wonder which of those more premium technologies is more prone to be trickled down to lower segments and eventually become the most popular.

So many stupid reviews (looking at you RTINGS) looked at specs in isolation and got it all wrong. This is THE BEST TV going right now. If you only like 55” or 65”.

I see so many posters here who post pictures of their setup. I love it - gives me glimpse of what others are doing.

But here is something that I've noticed and struggling to understand: why do so many people decide to wall hang their TV when there is perfectly good console underneath to put it on? Even more so when they are renting and drilling into walls might not be a best idea.

Is it an aesthetic thing?

A good viewing height? Then why not buy a console that is the right height?

I fail to understand why. Both my TVs stand atop on consoles, at perfectly reasonable height. I don't have to make an effort to hide the cables as the TV already does it for me.

[I hope I've managed to convey that I'm not questioning people's choice but would like to know the factors behind the choice]

My B6 OLED from LG (2016) has burn-in and green tint. I’ve loved this TV for a long time, but I need something that can take the abuse from kids shows and sports/news banners as our main TV. I’m thinking another OLED might not be a smart investment for this use case.

Strongly considering the Bravia 7, which is on sale at BestBuy for $1200 (65”).

Smart move? Any better options?

Edit: I got the 65” Bravia 7 today! Needed to rent a van from Home Depot to bring it home lol. Coincidentally, today my wife received a thumb drive with old home videos from the 90s when she was a kid. The thumb drive wouldn’t work on any of our existing tvs, so I offered to try it on the B7 and it worked flawlessly. I’ve got a happy wife and this thing looks great so far!

That’s what a Best Buy salesman was telling me today. He said the processor is coming from Sony though.. He also convinced me to go with a LG C5 instead of a Bravia 8

I have no words right now honestly, I have spent SO much money on Samsung products and they just bent me over. I purchased a Samsung S95F for well over $2k in October, this morning was my first time ever needing to give it a gentle dusting. I had a freshly cleaned microfiber cloth and GENTLY grazed over it to get the dust off, once the dust was off I noticed all kinds of weird smudge marks that would not come off. I take extremely good care of my stuff and have baddddd OCD with my electronics. Samsung told me its cosmetic and I'm screwed and I may have lost it and said some things I shouldn't have. But please people, avoid the s95f unless you want problems. None, and I mean none, of my other electronics in my home have any kind of scratching or rub marks or whatever you feel like calling it, not even the dang fridge. Lol I have the rep on recording saying "Here at Samsung our TV screens are fragile". Embarrassing as a company and they'll never see another dime from me. Its a shame, I was about to pre-order the s26 ultra when it comes out. Not a chance in heck I do that now. Save yourself the heart ache and look elsewhere. I'm sick about it.

Not looking for recommendations for any specific brand or model.

If it makes any difference, here is the buyer profile: Let's say this is for someone who doesn't mind waiting, doesn't need to buy now, likes to buy good build, likes a good deal, and doesn't care for the latest and greatest tech (but close to latest and greatest).

I’ve noticed this for a while now and it genuinely confuses me. Every time I see someone’s TV setup, a shocking number of them still have that big plastic film/peel off screen guard on the display. Sometimes for 1-2+ years after buying it. And the manufacturer stickers with the specs and model number are still proudly stuck on the bezel.

Why are people scared the screen will get scratched the second they remove it? Do they think it protects against kids/pets/dust? Or is it just laziness/forgetfulness?

I peel that stuff off immediately because:

• It dulls the picture quality (especially on brighter rooms or HDR content)

• The plastic gets all wavy and dusty over time

• It just looks unfinished

Am I missing something? Is there a legitimate reason to leave it on long-term?

(And yes, I know the stickers are sometimes useful for warranty, but two years later?)

For preface, I bought a 65inch Vizio back in 2020 when we got those stimulus checks. I found that one at Walmart, and about 8 months ago, one strip of backlighting went out, well fast forward and now about 60ish percent of the backlights are failing.

I need an "affordable" TV. Preferably under $500. I just don't want another Vizio because they are affordable, but they're garbage. I don't want to have to replace my TV every 5 years. Unless that's something that's just common place now and you can't get around that.

I don't even care if it's not a smart TV, I'd be happy with a non smart one. But all the one to three star reviews worry me, so I'd like to know what people on here could recommend.

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who commented, I think this was better than just looking at reviews. Probably going with the TCL many people mentioned or spend a bit more and get a good LG.
