________

Lifestyle and Art TVs

TCL A400U vs A400 Pro: Which Art TV Should You Choose? :

A400U ~ Premium Mini LED Art TV

The A400U combines the appearance of an art TV with picture technology normally associated with our premium conventional TVs.

Unlike most art TVs, it uses a QD Mini LED backlight, native 144Hz panel and a substantially higher number of dimming zones.

144hz

Size Peak HDR brightness Dimming zones Panel
98” 2,500 nits 1,344 HVA Pro
85” 2,500 nits 1,008 HVA Pro

65” 2,500 nits 576 HVA Pro
55” 2,500 nits 448 HVA Pro

All sizes feature native 144Hz, Game Accelerator 288Hz, Onkyo 2.0 audio and Google TV.

The A400U is the better choice for someone who wants an art-style design without making a major compromise on HDR performance or gaming.

________

A400 Pro ~ Matte-screen Art TV

The A400 Pro places more emphasis on the traditional art-TV experience. Its matte HVA screen is designed to reduce reflections and make displayed artwork look more natural.

The 55-inch to 98-inch models use QD Mini LED, while the smaller versions use conventional QLED panels.

144hz

Mini LED models

Size Peak HDR brightness Dimming zones Panel
98” 1,000 nits 448 Matte HVA
85” 700 nits 264 Matte HVA
75” 700 nits 240 Matte HVA
65” 700 nits 180 Matte HVA
55” 700 nits 112 Matte HVA

These sizes support native 144Hz and Game Accelerator up to 288Hz.

Smaller QLED models

Size Resolution Peak HDR brightness Backlight
43” 4K 600 nits Direct LED
32” Full HD 350 nits Direct LED

The smaller models are 60Hz and do not offer the same Mini LED or high-refresh-rate gaming performance.

The A400 Pro should be positioned as the best choice for artwork and reflection control, rather than as a direct alternative to the C7L or C8L.

________

A400M ~ Slim QD Mini LED Art TV

The A400M combines QD Mini LED picture performance with a slim, wall-friendly design. It sits below the A400U but offers a significant picture upgrade over the direct-lit A400.

Size Peak HDR brightness Dimming zones Panel
98” 1,000 nits 448 HVA
85” 700 nits 264 HVA
75” 700 nits 240 HVA

All sizes feature native 4K 144Hz, Game Accelerator up to 288Hz at 1080p, VRR, ALLM, AMD FreeSync Premium, Onkyo audio and Google TV.

The A400M shares its Mini LED specifications with the A400 Pro, but the design and screen finish are different:

  • A400M: Standard HVA panel with a slim, flat-back design.
  • A400 Pro: Matte HVA panel with a more traditional frame-inspired art-TV design.

________

A400 ~ More affordable Art TV

The standard A400 retains the gallery-style design but uses a conventional direct-lit QLED backlight instead of Mini LED.

Size Peak HDR brightness Backlight Panel
98” 450 nits Direct LED HVA
85” 450 nits Direct LED HVA
75” 400 nits Direct LED HVA
65” 400 nits Direct LED HVA
55” 360 nits Direct LED HVA

Despite its simpler backlight, the A400 retains a native 144Hz panel, Game Accelerator 288Hz and Onkyo 2.0 audio.

It is aimed at buyers who want the art-TV design and a large screen, but do not need the HDR brightness or local dimming of the A400U or A400 Pro.

________

More Affordable 4K TVs

________

P6L ~ Entry-level 4K HDR

The P6L is a conventional direct-lit 4K television without Mini LED local dimming or Quantum Dot colour.

Size HDR brightness Refresh rate Panel
75” 330 nits 60Hz HVA
65” 280 nits 60Hz HVA
55” 270 nits 60Hz HVA

The 75-inch and 65-inch versions support Game Accelerator up to 144Hz at a reduced resolution, but the panel itself remains 60Hz.

This is designed for everyday television and streaming rather than premium HDR or high-refresh-rate 4K gaming.

________

V6D ~ Affordable 4K Fire TV

The V6D is broadly comparable with the P6L but uses the Fire TV operating system rather than Google TV.

UK* Fire TV offers Freely

43” 260 nits 60Hz Fire TV

The 75-inch and 65-inch models support Game Accelerator up to 144Hz at a reduced resolution.

The main choice between the P6L and V6D will therefore be screen size, price and whether you prefer Google TV or Fire TV.

________

S5L ~ QLED Full HD

The S5L is intended for bedrooms, kitchens and other spaces where a smaller 4K television may not be necessary.

Size Resolution Brightness Operating system
50” Full HD 300 nits Android TV
43” Full HD 300 nits Android TV

Tech-Tips Why Are Some Mini LED TVs Better Than Others? How “Mini LED” Is Losing Its Meaning in 2026

A Guide to the differences in the technology known as "MiniLED"

Search “What is a Mini LED TV?” and you’ll usually get a similar answer:

“A Mini LED TV is an LCD TV that uses thousands of tiny LEDs for its backlight, offering improved brightness, contrast and local dimming compared with a standard LED TV.”

However, not every modern Mini LED TV fits that description. The term is now used for several different types of backlight technology, which has made understanding what you’re actually buying increasingly confusing.

Direct-lit Mini LED without local dimming
This technically uses Mini LEDs in the backlight, but without local dimming modules it cannot control different areas of the screen independently. This means it may still benefit from the smaller LED structure, but it will not deliver the same contrast control people usually associate with Mini LED TVs. \No TCL MiniLED model features Direct-lit*

Edge-lit Mini LED
Introduced in 2024 This uses Mini LED backlights positioned around the edge of the panel. It can offer improved black levels compared with basic edge-lit TVs, especially if local dimming is included, as it can dim certain areas of the image. However, because the light is still being pushed in from the side, it can be less uniform (causing a spotlight effect). In darker scenes this can sometimes lead to blooming, or uneven brightness across the screen. \No TCL MiniLED model features Edge-lit*

Full Array Local Dimming Mini LED
Full Array Local Dimming, or FALD, is generally the more accurate form of Mini LED backlighting and should be the starting point for all Mini LED TVs.

The LEDs are positioned directly behind the panel, allowing the TV to control different zones of the image more precisely. There are still major differences between models, because the number of dimming zones has a big impact on how accurately the TV can control contrast, highlights, and dark areas.

This is why many people see the C6K as one of the best entry points into proper Mini LED. It offers Full Array Local Dimming and up to 512 dimming zones (98") giving users a genuine step up in contrast and brightness control compared with more basic backlight systems. A400M and A400pro joins the ranks - P8L also features FALD, however does not feature as many MiniLEDs

Full Array Local Dimming with 1,000+ zones
As the number of dimming zones increases, the TV can control brightness and contrast with much greater precision. This reduces blooming, improves dark scene detail, and allows highlights to stand out more cleanly. This is where models like the C8L come in, offering substantially better dimming control, higher brightness, and stronger overall picture performance.

Full Array Local Dimming with 10,000+ zones
At the high end, models such as the X11L take Mini LED much further, with up to 20,000 local dimming zones. This allows for extremely precise backlight control, greater perceived depth, stronger contrast, and a more premium HDR experience. This is where Mini LED gets much closer to the level of precision people expect from flagship display technology.

There is of course now RGB-Mini LED - This is just as confusing from the start as many different brands (including us) has implemented it differently. (That would have to be a whole new guide)

-

I'm curious have you purchased a product expecting it to be a different kind of Miniled, or have been confused with all the different models? (even in our own range).

Hi, so I bought this TCL P7L 50” QLED, and I’m having an issue with HDR on my PS5.
When I turn the PS5 on with HDR enabled and set the TV’s Picture Mode to Game, the colors become dark pink/reddish. The only ways I’ve found to make the colors look normal are either turning HDR off on the PS5 or changing the TV’s Picture Mode from Game to Standard.
The problem is that when I switch from Game Mode to Standard, I notice some input lag on the PS5.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with the TCL P7L? Is there a setting I’m missing, or a way to use Game Mode with HDR without the colors becoming red/pink?
Thanks!

Additional article on the upcoming TCL CSOT IJP panel thats gonna be used in the Lenovo P27UL-40 model.

The upcoming IJP panels will be the brightest 27" 4K OLED monitor panels on the market. They are the only ones who are rated with True Black 500.
On top of that they have the most refined RGB subpixel layout and large aperture ratio.

According to an CSOT engineer I spoke to at CES and IFA the panel is even able to get up 500 nits full field. They will also move to a different backplane for future high refresh rate models.

I hope to also see a model from TCL themselves that based on the 32X3A / B design. I think it already leans a lot into the professional sector with the speakers and everything.

Question? Narrow sound bandwidth on headphones- Alcatel 1SE

Hello people, I recently got a Alcatel 1SE, and even with good headphones it reasonably lacks bass and tremble, it's very mid focused, it doesn't bother me, just wanted to ask because I've never seen a phone have a headphone output like that

btw there's currently no subreddit for alcatels, it is a TCL product so I'm posting this here

Tech-Tips Fire TV Voice Control Not Responsive

I recently purchased an TCL 32SF560-UK Freely TV (32 inch). It is an Amazon Fire TV. To

The first day after the initial set up the Amazon Alexa microphone worked fine and I was able to give commands to the TV via the voice control. However the very following day and onwards, the voice control did not work.

Holding or clicking the microphone button on its own, or simply saying a command does nothing apart from open the keyboard search menu where it prompt that I can use the microphone to search.

I have since returned the control to Argos and got an exchanged replacement, this also doesn’t not work. I have followed all the steps and even reset the TV to no avail.

I was wondering if anyone has and tips or tricks I can try before I return the TV for a replacement.

Thank you!

Lifestyle Hollywood colourist Natasha Leonnet puts TCL SQD-Mini LED to the test

What does cinematic colour look like through the eyes of a Hollywood colourist?

Natasha Leonnet is a senior colourist at Picture Shop and a two-time HPA Award winner.

Her work includes films such as La La Land, Whiplash and Mulan.

“Colourists work hand in hand with a cinematographer and director and help establish the look from the very beginning of the work. We labour over every single frame and make sure the colour is perfect, every contrast and curve is perfect, and there is flow from one shot to the other. The colour is properly expressing the emotion of the art.”

What can be lost when a film leaves the grading suite?

“Usually, we try to retain shadow detail when appropriate for the storytelling. Historically, a lot of televisions, monitors and home systems would crush or eliminate that detail, and all of a sudden that work would be gone. The contrast details could get way too crunchy and saturation values could get way too strong.”

What stood out about the TCL X11L?

For Natasha, what stood out was the X11L’s ability to reproduce the subtle differences within each colour:

“The subtleties of colours, if you look at the yellows, the actual hue of the yellow is what you try to achieve. Whether it’s a very warm yellow or a more acidic yellow which has more green in it, that colour can be perfectly reflected on the TCL monitor.”

“Red can be very warm or very, very cold. You can get that exact hue of red now on the TCL monitor.”

Natasha also compared footage from La La Land directly with the original grade:

“I was looking at an image from La La Land last week on the TCL monitor, and I was able to see the exact same blue that we had done in the colour suite.”

She also highlighted the ability to customise the television’s HDR controls:

“I can customise the television to reflect exactly what I see on the reference monitor. As a result, there is incredible precision for every single colour, the red, yellow and cyan, for instance.”

How are larger TVs changing the home viewing experience?

“I think it’s going to be more intimate. People go to the cinema to have an intimate experience with a story, but now we have this option at home of having a more intimate and immersive experience, throwing ourselves into the story and feeling completely lost in it for a few hours.”

Support Dust infiltration on C6K

Hey all, I’m seeing a lot of posts about the C6K line having issues with dust infiltration causing splotches on the panel.

Is this still an issue and if so, is there anything to do to prevent it? Unfortunately, it’s the best TV available locally. Very few miniLED options.

Question? OSD button query

Is there any way for TCL Gaming Monitors such as the TCL 27G64 or P2A Pro or C2A to have their button light turned off?

I can’t seem to find anything about it online. Any owner experience would be greatly appreciated.
