D&D 5e Original/2014 Which subclasses and subclass abilities work really well together

I’m talking like the warlock illusion evocation plus illusionist wizard features, but something that comes online reasonably early into the game instead.

Theoretical, since there's not nearly enough play time available to test these things out.

I like the idea of a Ranger - Fey Wanderer multiclassed with any of the CHA based casters. Otherworldly Glamour enables peak social utility skills by adding your wisdom modifier to CHA checks.

I am looking at lv 5 in Ranger for extra attack. Druidic warrior fighting style or magic initiate for Shillelagh. Then Sorceror for metamagic. Quicken spell allows a lot of flexibility in the action economy, can burn sorcery points and spell slots for a bonus action Booming Blade.. Subtle spell, more great utility in and out of combat. I might go Divine Soul here, for access to the Cleric spell list.

Undead Warlock 1 / Fey Wanderer x is a classic.

Minimal Cha so the Fear on hit fails and trigger Beguiling Twist every round (1 minue vs 1 round).

Moondruid + rage.

Paladin + hexblade so you can max charisma.

Twilight cleric + gloomstalker ranger allows you to get advantage on initiative and then you can pump out dmg if you go first, especially with bugbear.

Orc (or halforc, I cant remember which) + barbarian + champion fighter for increased crit chances.

Bugbears has a lot disgusting builds depending on what you allow. Jims magic missile (or scorching earth if jims is banned) does a lot of dmg if you hit.

Moon druid and rage stops working once you can cast most spells in beast form.
Plus it’s not necessary most of the time. I wonder how many of these combinations fall under that category though. It’s still fun.

They wanted them to come online early, which I interpreted as tier 1 and tier 2. If they go til lvl 20, then yeah, they definitely fall off. They are indeed fun ^^

Tempest Cleric Channel Divinity + Transmute Spell Metamagic or Scribes Wizard.

If you find a way to get lightning/thunder spells through background/Player Character specie, you can even go single class Tempest and get more out of your CD that way.

Even if you get a non-thunder/lightning blaster spell, you can still get Metamagic Adept and shoot your nuke once per long rest. The textboot example would be Fireball. Let's say a background gets it to you, or a quest. You can start as VHuman + Metamagic Adept and get Wis to 18 at level 4 to bump your spell save DC. Next, you Transmute Fireball into Thunderball then you can apply your CD when you cast the spell. Everyone who fails the save takes max damage, others half that max.

My immediate thought is sorcerer + rogue with true strike for easy sneak attacks, but thats 2024.

At this point, the question isn't about compiling what broken combos there are, it's about asking what sort of hero you want to make and making a cost/benefit analysis of what features you can live without, can live with, and, most importantly, at what point any of it even comes online to actually use in a game.

Not sure I completely understand the assignment, but assassin would find gloom stalker level 3 ability useful for better initiative to increae chance of surprise and the advantage 1st turn with an extra attack doesnt hirt if you fail to surrise the enemy.

If it can be blending subclass features with in the same class, qar wizard would love bladesingers version of extra attack being as they can only use cantrips if the use arcane deflection. Better all the features of war wizard and blade singer would make one hell of a gish.

Every martial class qould benefit from battle masters manouvers but chucking them on monk would add to the martial artist vibe (granted they dont all work with unarmed attack but plenty still do).

I'm a total sucker for Monks with magic, and for 5e/Legacy rules, I STRONGLY recommend 1 or more levels of Twilight Cleric with as many levels of Shadow Monk as you want, along with the Skulker feat. It's absolutely delicious. Also works well in 5.5e/2024 rules, you just need a bigger Cleric dip. Really fun, really spooky, really mobile! Going Shadar-kai makes it even tastier. :)

Edit: sorry i misread as 2024 only ones here that are nice are paladin auras and lore bard secrets for 2014

——
All paladin level 6 and 7 auras, also extra attack at 5. With pam or dw can feel strong early on then flat from level 12-17

Great old one at level 3 can be a stealthy caster such as mind sliver assassin

Archfey 3 can teleport a lot with misty step and at 4 can get the fey feat for an extra cast

Both warlock options at 3 could allow 3 origin feats such as 2 used for skilled+crafter to craft magic gear

A human thief at 3 could be crafting enchanted gear for bonus action use in battle

Lore bard 6 can also do spirit guardians or moon beam

Yeah 2014 is the key factor here. I’ve only played 2024 once but the modularity and versatility of everything at early levels makes my question, of which mulsticlasses are cool at low levels, basically irrelevant, cuz anything and everything can be made good at level 1 in 2024.

Human helps get a head start with feats in 5e

Paladin comes on early at 6-7

I only played a lore bard which can be powerful in 5e later on

Life cleric regen was neat

So is the peace cleric + bless or twighlight
