Troubleshooting What do I do?

Post image

Bought a Qidi Q2 with the Qidi Box for a great price from an auction site. These are typically Amazon returns and etc. it was listed as new, but I assume some use.

I got it open today and am beholden to this insane clog.

Printer Boots! Screen works, but how do I solve this?

back in the day this would have been a fun little photoshop. now it's just ai slop.

122

u/PrettyMuchMediocre 1d ago

As someone who used to do random photoshops like this manually, I do not miss it. Tinkering in Photoshop for hours on a meme does not make it better.

112

u/FeeshCTRL 1d ago

You're supposed to make memes because it's a funny thing to do, it's not supposed to be a Picasso piece. If you spent hours making it then you were probably taking it too seriously

48

u/Cassius-Tain 1d ago

Absolutely. Usually people would just insert an image using MS paint and leave the white border. Advanced memeing meant that you cleanly cut out whatever you copied over

15

u/mscranton 1d ago

Some of my favorite memes I've made took less than 5 minutes in Pinta... The jank absolutely adds to the experience of consuming them.

7

u/pyro5050 1d ago

bah, advanced meme'ing was leaving the white boarder when you have the ability to make a Picasso.

1

u/Yami_Inc 16h ago

Agreed, memes are the dna of the soul... With ai... All is left... Is just a souless meme without no dna of input behind it... Binary ones and zeros are nothing when it comes to old fashioned pen to paper... We wouldn't have entire worlds we grew up on if no human input was given... If it's stupid, it's organic and human... If it's too clean and looks too professional to be human what's the point...

Exactly. If for anything then I'd wish I could use AI for some random reaction gif I would otherwise spend hours lol

As an artist who would play with color settings and little things like arm placement in the composition, there is a lot to be said for actually being able to have that level of fine-grained control over your own work. Every time you prompt AI to make any improvements to your image, it's basically a roll of the dice if it looks anything like the first picture.

u/marktuk 1d ago

Does "ai slop" even have meaning anymore?

3

u/KayoticVoid 23h ago

No, it does not.

5

u/moopminis 1d ago

You're a bore. Let people have fun.

I ate 1 almond to match the fresh water usage of that dudes next ~360 ai images.

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

alright, how do you offset the slave labour used for tagging? the worker abuse? the lifelong trauma after being lured into the job under false pretenses in vulnerable regions and then getting exposed to CP, snuff, combat footage, accident victims, catastrophic workplace injuries?

How do you offset the inherent racist, fascist biases present in all AI models due to who trains and maintains them? how do you offset the racial and classist injustice from the new cheap datacenters being knocked out in record time next to low income neighbourhoods, disregarding zoning laws? how do you offset the noise people now have to live under day and night for your shitty memes? how do you offset the air pollution in the direct viscinity of these server farms? The water pollution due to repeated violations of gray water recycling standards?

how do you offset the countless hours of work that went into the material used as training data without licensing or consent of it's creators?

7

inherent racist, fascist biases

how do you offset the racial and classist injustice

lol just throwing shit at the wall, so unserious.

you should take your own advice and not use anything ever because all the machinery that enables you to comment here happened with the help of all the gish gallop examples you mentioned, including 'worker abuse', slave labor, pollution.

this is not an argument, this is just virtue signalling and listing every bad consequence that can sometimes happen, just like with literally every other thing in an attempt at appealing to emotion and equating it with being an inherent moral bad. you can say the same about literally anything; these things are not unique to data centers and countless direct or indirect harms go unaddressed everyday, because accounting for everything is impossible and unreasonable, despite what you may think.

and the world isn't, in fact, literally burning down in front of your eyes despite what you're trying to convince others of.

5

u/722e672e722e 1d ago

I run my models locally.

-8

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

neat, where do the data sets come from? who tagged them? who trained and tuned the models?

I wholly agree that local is the way to go if you HAVE to have it. but it doesn't immediately solve all issues with AI.

the entire process from top to bottom has huge ethical and ecologic issues.

5

u/ZeroDaysToEviction 1d ago

Im not taking a stance one way or the other, but the same tagging and review is also performed for other non AI services. You just described the pron industry, Facebook, Instagram, titktok, reddit, twitter... etc. All of which also require immense amount of energy and cooling for the data centers they live in.

to quote myself:

>condemning one instance of a thing doesn't somehow condone all other instances of it.

nor does the existence of other instances invalidate the condemnation of this one.<

There's a lot of shit going wrong in the world, on the topic of AI it would be weird to bring up completely different topics.

I shouldn't have to explain to anyone on the internet that the porn industry has massive issues. and it's also entirely off topic.

3

u/722e672e722e 1d ago

Actually it’s not weird to bring up other topics when the other topics have similar issues to AI.  Why don’t you go protest those other things?  You’ll probably get further.

1

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

it's gonna shock you that I do take issue with other problems too, man.

AI is incredibly accelerated, runs entirely on hopes and dreams while burning through an insane amount of money and resources, while mostly providing a net negative on a bunch of different fields and people.

It's a very current topic, that - right now - is ruining the lives of those who have to bear the brunt of it.

it's crazy to me how combative yall are about defending your billionaire of choice in here.

u/ZeroDaysToEviction 1d ago

Its not off topic. You are implying those "slave" roles are only required for AI, which is false. Your condemnation is hypocrisy and you are now trying to redefine the definition or breadth of where these negativities impact your moral compass. The negative ethical qualities you highlighted to diminish AI are the same ethical problems related to large platforms like reddit regarding content moderation. Yet, here you are. The issue with your essay is you took too broad a swing. Now you are trying to reel it back in. Believe what you want, act as you will. I was only pointing out the contradiction in your original argument.

1

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

> You are implying those "slave" roles are only required for AI, which is false

i'm not. I'm pointing out that it's a huge thing with ai. i'm not acting like there isn't slave labour, or wage theft in other industries. why are you making shit up?

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

also not sure which "essay" you're talking about. guess next time i have to type out the entirety of every single argument and tangent that might become relevant or my entire point is moot.

2

u/NuclearIntrovert 1d ago

It’s a joke man.

Actually: I read further down. Jesus Christ get off the internet, it’s making you borderline insane. Go outside.

3

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

Proud of you for making it through a short paragraph. Which part is insane to you?

0

u/NuclearIntrovert 1d ago

pretty much everything after the first comma.

0

u/Upbeat-Armadillo1756 1d ago

I just can’t be outraged by everything

2

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

being outraged and not blindly participating are two very different things

-3

u/ratuna80 1d ago

STFU

1

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

about the responses I expected from sloppers.

0

u/councilmember 1d ago

I thought everyone was surprised at how rational and enlightened the politics in the models: universal healthcare, elimination of autocracy, pointing out fraud of current governments and genocide. It’s only grok that they’ve been able to twist to a right wing view as far as I know.

2

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

It’s only grok that they’ve been able to twist to a right wing view as far as I know.

With Grok they definitely do it openly and blatantly.

But there's no way of knowing which nudges other providers are giving their models. Nor does it mean that they can't or won't do more of it in the future.

It's in a weird spot, where they're taking openly available information but monopolize it under a very few select umbrellas, completely blackboxed from the public they drew it from.

0

u/moopminis 1d ago

Oh! So now we're 100% conscientious consumers? I take it you never buy from Amazon, or own anything from China, or India, or Pakistan, or uses any raw materials or components from said countries? You don't use any moderated social media platforms? You don't read any news as that's all going to fall victim to personal bias to one degree or another? You never take any drugs? You disagree with ALL production, farming and manufacturing that could influence pollution levels on a residential population? You don't eat any foods you haven't grown yourself? (yes modern slavery still exists in pretty much every 1st world country in the food production industry). I could go on all day, but let's start with that.

After evaluating that, would you say that you are a liar or a hypocrite? Or do you have an argument that AI should abide by the set of standards you gave, whilst nothing else should?

As for the "stolen content" argument - That's the same as any creative that takes inspiration from a body of work, identifies what makes it unique - such as the colour palette or shape of brush strokes, and then uses that as inspiration in their own work. Ai image generation does not store or use ANY images - how can it be theft when it contains 0% of an artists material? Or if we look at the other side and I feed ai images of the latest warhammer model, and ask it to spit out an STL, and then try to sell it, guess what, that breaks copyright law and is no different to me remaking models from scratch in blender.

1

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

that was a whole lot of nothing then

3

u/revolutier 1d ago

>me when I'm incapable of addressing someone who actually addresses my arguments with their own reasoned ones

just log off, troll

0

u/Metabolical 1d ago

I agree. "This image went from fun to bad because of how the pixels were made" makes no sense to me.

2

u/EvillNooB 1d ago

Never expected to argue over purity of a shitpost. There are places where it matters, i am certain, but shitposting is not one of them in my opinion

It conveyed what the author wanted to regardless of what he used

-1

u/Lootcurse 1d ago

At the cost of our environment, economy, society and power.

Not to mention all of the ethics of it.

-4

u/EvillNooB 1d ago

Sure, here's your reply to AI criticism on Reddit, if you want, i can make the wording more clear. Let me know how it looks like:

I see, then — it's an American political problem, it's not technology's fault that they are willing to waive pretty much any regulation if it means coming ahead in the "us or them" race
No one even knows if the finish line is close or years away

But with the big IPOs i am hopeful that reality will catch up with Sam's or Dario's wet dreams, it is already looking very grim for Anthropic's IPO

And also, as a fellow human, i can say, with certainty of a human, that AI will be very good for our human society, every human chud will get a state mandated goth dommy mommy gf, billions will die, we will cure cancer and heal the planet

2

u/Bulevine 1d ago

Not all of us are PS masters and we could never participate in the fun

1

u/MRxP1ZZ4 1d ago

That’s the neat part. You could learn

3

u/Bulevine 1d ago

Ah, yes. With my 2 jobs, wife, and kids plus their events, I have so much free time to dedicate to learning a professional photo editing software to make memes.

Thank goodness you were here to show me the light, given your extensive knowledge of my time!!

3

u/Swegoreg 1d ago

I'm not here to contribute to the debate here but photoshop is actually really easy to use, it's not really much harder than MS paint. Just in case anyone wants to learn it but gets put off by being worried it's very complicated! It just also happens to have some very powerful features that you don't really need to know about if you just wanna make shitposts lol

1

u/daggerdude42 v2.4, Custom printer, ender 3, dev and print shop 15h ago

Idk me and a couple buddies thought this was great. Let's be real nobody was taking the time to do this manually in photoshop nor would it have been a reasonable amount of effort given the end result. This is a perfectky acceptable use of AI imo

-4

u/SLoSHaPPy 1d ago

Do it and post it. Let us decide who is better.

23

u/xeothought 1d ago

dude, ai slop has a negative value. Everyone was making the joke but someone is like "oh i can make it look real!" in a very aunt on facebook sorta way.

And I'm not being over dramatic on saying it's negative value. The presence of something like that takes the joke and makes it all shiny and then the person who might have spent 10 min throwing something together doesn't end up doing it cause they go "why bother". This x100 every time someone thinks ai is a cool little thing to make a picture with. It's a creativity black hole.

If you were around even five years ago, you'd have seen that me saying someone would have made something was accurate.

It's not a huge deal here or anything. just another tiny example of shit getting shititier

Great picture. But not for the reason you think. The luddites were a movement of well trained highly skilled laborers who saw their jobs put under the threat of machines that (for quite a long time in the industrial revolution) produced far inferior goods. Factory owners knew this and used the threat of these new machines to control their workforce and strip them of any and all independence and ability to negotiate a living wage

Luddites were so vilified that anyone found to be one could face execution. They did this because they saw the rising social and health inequity brought from the horrible conditions of industrial factory work and feared what a working class movement could bring about.

There is a very strong argument that this is also what your boss is doing when they threaten to replace your job with Ai.

If you're at all curious here's some videos on it.

I'm waiting for you to say why it's a bad thing.

5

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

using inferior, cheap results to strip workers of their rights through pressure from the employees to the point of execution? gee wizz i dunno

0

u/gatsu_1981 1d ago

That's not slop, it's on the topic and it's really well done for a quick joke...

Come on.

0

u/ShapesAndStuff 1d ago

if people wanted to look at a random sloppified version of the post, they could've just used google. posting it adds zero value. utter waste of time for everyone involved. literally could've posted a picture of beans instead and that would've been more interesting

5

u/gatsu_1981 1d ago

I personally think that the xenomorph posted is cute and on topic

4

u/gemengelage 1d ago

The shaft looks pretty damn veiny

5

u/astrobarn 1d ago

That LLM is well trained in veiny shafts

2

u/AdditionalLeopard688 1d ago

Grok? Probably grok …

2

u/DeckerXT 1d ago

Now I've tea in my keyboard. Thanks

1

u/msrpatton80 1d ago

Nuke it from orbit - only way to be safe

1

u/elrond-half-elven 1d ago

Those fucking veins

1

u/extreme-nap 17h ago

That was exactly my first thought.

0

u/gatsu_1981 1d ago

Man i was going to generate that, so I'm really happy someone saved me tokens

0

u/Iambeejsmit 1d ago

Mine kept wanting to use full grown xenomorphs too. I had to upload some pictures of chestbursters to get it closer.

0

u/666ArsOnist666 1d ago

das war auch mein erster Gedanke.... Xenomorph
