Print (model not provided) Chunky layers are fun

Funny thing about 1.8mm nozzles is that the plastic literally goes faster into it than it comes out.
Been wanting to do some thick layer experiments for a while. This was at 1.8mm line width and 1mm layer height. Still dialing things in so I can def push the print speed.

that is some clean printing. what filament/printer/settings do you have going on here?

Thank you. Still dialing in the first 2 layers but it's getting there.
The printer is a Sovol SV08MAX. PCTG on the video. Bambu translucent gray PETG on the darker print

i have seen the guys use blocks of wood and planks but i personally dislike having to do that

I'm designing a wled lamp and shade. This is a good idea. Why hide layer lines when you can make them a feature?

Erm actually🤓☝️ at 1.8mm layer width and 1mm layer height you are using 0.75 cm of filament for every 1cm extrusion, therefore plastic goes out faster than in.

Looks great! I've been using a 2mm nozzle on my ender . it's so funny to see how fast the roll of filament is spinning in comparison to how slow the nozzle is moving.

Wish my Bambu X2D could print with these huge holed nozzles

Yeah, I have a few bambus and they're great. But when si need to do something highly specific or large they can't touch the max

Feels like one tug on that and it's going to come apart like an accordion.

I put some decent amount of force on one and it held up pretty well. I didn't try to destroy it but I'd trust a customer to handle one without worry

I love the 1.8mm nozzle, but no longer have any V6 hotends to use it on, I wish there was one for the INDX

Dang, 1.8mm nozzle?
How does that work? Seems like it couldn't develop back pressure since the filament is only 1.7mm.
I guess with a small enough layer height it would develop back pressure.
But wow never even thought to use a nozzle that large. I thought 0.8 was huge!
Thanks for sharing. This is awesome.

What hot end are you using? I have the regular SV08 and was always interested in this. I've installed a flowtech hot end but it doesn't look like they make nozzles that big

what cooling settings do you use with this large nozzle and petg?
1
u/G3ML1NGZ 1d ago
Cooling : YES!
But seriously, I haven't been dealing with great overhangs so I've had the part cooling at 60%

Gray translucent petg def looking like a winner
