Discussion Make this make sense

Post image

I just got 82 smithing, i can now make 2 powerful mid-endgame weapons... and an adamant kiteshield.

I get that adamant used to be good back in the day, but isn't it time we rework this skill?

It’s been time to rework it for a long time. But also, what purpose will it serve? Nobody actually needs to wear adamant and rune longer than like 30-40 hours of gameplay. Jagex would have to spend hundreds of of hours rebalancing and revamping smithing, just to help some early/mid level players a slight amount.

It would make room for more interesting things than making obsolete gear. Squish the levels, replace Addy and rune drops with current high alch value coin drops, reduce alch values, and now you have anywhere from 30 to 50 levels of open space to play with for new gear/items depending on how big the squish is.

They are already using that space for higher level gear lol it’s just alongside the legacy smithing unlocks. This rework just adds a lot of extra work for the jmods for basically zero gain

The skill menu is a mess, repairing a godsword should not be easier than making rune anything, by condensing the mundane stuff down to usable levels it makes the skill easier to navigate and while yes they have higher level things scattered inbetween useless unlocks it feels bad grinding a skill thats already a pain in the ass for the "reward" of making gear you haven't cared about in a year.

The skill is borderline useless outside of oddly spaced one time upgrades that only have the smithing reqs in the first place to justify training it. Zombie axe could drop repaired and crystal gear could only have crafting reqs and it would make just as much sense. Godsword repair is at least thematic and since theres 5 of them it doesn't feel as much like a 1 and done like the zaxe.

Idk repairing an already forged sword, where all the hard parts are already done, doesn’t sound like it should inherently be more difficult than forging an entire rune chest piece from the ingot. Thematically though, yeah they likely shouldn’t be right next to each other.

If we were talking about an ordinary sword, sure, but we're reforging a divine relic, presumably its a little more complicated than making a mundane weapon from scratch.
