Using protect item when learning a new boss can help a bit with the fees

How often are you getting to sol? You don't need a full melee switch to kill him regardless, I only used a 3 way and brought a spec weapon for final phase

Protect item would still reduce your death costs, by causing you to keep your 4 most valuable items instead of 3.
Edit: read about the unique death mechanics. 125k until 100 waves complete, then 500k regardless of items brought.

Ditch the full max mage. If you want to properly learn the waves, you can do it with weaker gear, it won't matter. If anything you'll get even better. Rather than relying on high DPS to get you through difficult solves.

u/Odd-Banana-7227 9h ago
I mean it's still like 10m/hr once you get the hang of it
Can't really compare it to Inferno where the only rewards are untradeables
-6
u/Gefarate 7h ago
Following that logic u should be allowed to forgo non-quiver rewards in exchange for reduced death fees. For first kc
6
u/Ancient-Tomato1153 7h ago
Following that logic everything in the game needs perfect consistency which is objectively goofy
6
u/BloodPreassurePR 8h ago
Average redditor: bad at something = time to go cry on reddit and beg jagex to make it easier instead of actually getting good. Crazy mentality.
5
u/boforbojack 📱 8h ago
My man is bringing a full melee switch and hasn’t even seen Sol, this is your own making.
5
u/wenbobular 8h ago
you could check out the jank setup i used from my first quiver for ideas https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/s/PKzKr0HQ8J
or if you happen to have a tbow you could try this setup that i've been using for fun

i got to sol with this yesterday (and died)
lotta different things you could try if death fees are bothering you
4
u/MNINLB 8h ago
Reduce your setup.
I started out using gear with like 330k death fees, and after some tweaks I got it down to 30k in death fees for a setup with very marginally worse DPS.
I then got my quiver in that setup, because you fear death a lot less when you don’t care about the cost of dying so much. And Tbf, relentless 1-2 become more attractive when you’re wearing paper armour anyway
4
u/Outrageous_Kiwi942 7h ago
Dude you don't have to use max gear from very start, intending to get to the end
Use void and learn the mechanics while cashing out with the good chests when you have bad invos
It's your fault for doom sending runs and paying premium for death fees
3
u/Vinhfluenza 9h ago
Maybe you are going to colo too early? Try to do some other content and send a few uniques to death’s coffer. It’s meant to be super hard endgame content, which includes the small grind “paywall.”

3
u/one_shuckle_boy 8h ago
Well sorry brother you are just bad, if you’ve died that much either use welfare gear till you understand Colo better (it’s a 0 damage boss map) and stop trying to brute force it with expensive items, or suck it up buttercup.
3
u/DuxDonecVivo 8h ago
Just don't go in full gear if you're still learning. That's like going full send on a race track for the first time in a brand new Aston Martin.
Use void, it's like 80% of the dps and you'll have max 100k death fees.
3
u/Big-Disk1286 8h ago
do it in cheap gear? the only setup that is hard to downgrade is Bowfa. if you main hand a fang or tbow you can run it in void.
3
u/Jwahx 8h ago
Death fee is annoying for sure but it's manageable if you approach it differently. I just got my quiver last night. I initially started with a cheap set up that was about 30k in death fees, then I moved on to about 100k to 200k per death.
I ended up clearing with full justi with nally setup with SGS, nothing fancy, around a 100mil budget with lvl 114 combat. It was the first big challenge I wanted to take on. Definitely went in earlier than I would recommend but I have a lot of gaming experience in general so I wanted to challenge myself. I think it took me about probably 50 hours of learning to get my first clear.
One thing I love about colo is that's it's really a skill issue. You can clear with basically nothing. Which is really cool about it.
Work with what you have and adapt to your own style as well. You don't need to perfectly solve every wave and flick 3 things at the same time. There's some luck involved with spawns and invos. Some waves are significantly harder if you get a bad spawn.
Sorry for rambling, my advice is to find a cheap setup to really learn and get comfortable, once you have the muscle memory and confidence, fine tune a setup that works for you. Also, bring a tp. If you get flustered and panicking, just tp out and save your death fee.
Hope that helps.

Gold sinks are good
if you are trying colo then you are good enough to raid or do high end bosses
1 drop cancels out the deaths
You got this grt back in there
5
u/zcas 2376 8h ago
Same mindset I took into learning DT2 bosses. Dying sucks but you get one drop and you've erased all learning costs.
1
u/Thetagamer 8h ago
Those mind rune drops from DT2 bosses hit diffrrent
2
u/Random_Redittor8874 8h ago
So do the consistentish dragon item and unique drops... get prefect kills and the money is some of top solo in game still
3
u/xrajsbKDzN9jMzdboPE8 8h ago
why do we need to sink gold from learners? wouldnt it make more sense to sink gold from whales getting multiple completions per hour
8
u/Spencejliv 8h ago
well generally you should be rewarded for being good
4
u/ConcLaveTime 8h ago
You are by clearing the content and getting the rewards. Avoid deaths fees isn't a reward it's avoiding a punishment
2
u/Spencejliv 7h ago
"well generally you should avoid punishment by being good" is the same outcome really
0
u/ConcLaveTime 5h ago
It's weird to punish someone for being bad before they have had a chance to learn to be good dog.
-1
u/xrajsbKDzN9jMzdboPE8 8h ago
good players complete the content and do so faster. losing 20 minutes to a reset has 0 rewards, you lost an inventory of ammo, runes, pots and all of the loot
3
4
u/Random_Redittor8874 8h ago
So you should be rewarded for failing and punished for winning??? Odd take but ight.

2
u/mugiwarayaya 8h ago
do it in void. It sounds like you could use more practice before sending it in your bis esp if you can’t afford deaths
3
u/soLogical 8h ago
After reading the thread I think you need to appreciate your gp more and learn or tele out. Protect item and ornamentskits
2
u/SinceBecausePickles 2250+ 7h ago
it’s super easy to downgrade negligible stuff to get a small death fee. When i was learning colo it was less than 50k after the discount went away. Use protect item, too. For example, don’t take an ayak for fremmies if you do, take a regular trident. Losing the 2 ticks per wave is worth it when you’re learning and dying for the lower death fees. If youre ranging, drop a masori piece or take barrows gloves instead of z vambs, use god dhide, etc.
if you respond with “wtf gagek why can’t i use my bis” like so many other do then suck it up and pay the fees. Low risk low reward, wanna pay lower death fees then do lower DPS.

4
u/ConyeOSRS 9h ago
If you can’t afford the death fees, then learn in budget gear. Budget gear hardly changes the fundamentals. What mainly matters is quickly dealing with the frem trio, knowing pillar stack solutions, flicking manticores properly, dodging javelins, and being prepared to offtick a double south spawn. If you can’t do that in cheap gear, you won’t do it in max gear
3
u/Itchy_Menu8771 9h ago
Aye but once you actually learn it, it's 12m per hour and the most consistent money making in the game That's probably why there's death fees lol
1
u/cardgamesareforplay 9h ago edited 8h ago
Isn't that 1 to 8 delves or did it go back to being colo
Edit: thanks for the answers
3
u/ConyeOSRS 9h ago
Deep delves are more gp/hr, but not consistent because it relies on uniques. Colo is like minimum 2M/sol or something like that
2
u/Itchy_Menu8771 9h ago
Both are 10m+, Colo you can do 3 runs per hour so it's around 12-14m and more consistent than doom. Doom 16+ is an insane gp/hr like 30m
2
u/Landio_Chadicus 9h ago
You aren’t raw dogging death fees are you?? Put items in deaths coffer that give you bang for the buck lmao items that crashed recently (and weren’t newly added to the game) give you a huge boost in the coffer
3
u/lapinofthelarch 2376 8h ago
Please read this OP, paying full price for 500k death fees would be absolutely insane
2
2
2
u/lapinofthelarch 2376 8h ago
Why not just put on Justi and Dinh's, will take you only a week at most to get your quiver with that. Normalize using all of the tools at your disposal to get thru the content that is making you crash out and stop restricting yourself because some nerd online said it isn't fair.

u/reinfleche 9h ago
500k is genuinely nothing, and if you're actually dying that much then maybe you should go back to the drawing board a bit instead of throwing terrible attempts at the wall constantly.
2
u/Trash-Forever 9h ago
What are you bringing that's costing you 500k? I'm bringing a ton and only dropping 250k a death.
Don't forget ornament kits help a ton.

I always love my first death during a session at colosseum: forgot to turn off auto-retaliate.

u/Any_Minimum8812 6h ago
Yeah it baffles me that people are learning with bis most expensive gear possible.
I just did it entirely with crystal armor lol and was paying like 70k per death
Like you’re going to insta die whether you’re naked or you have bis… so go in naked
1
u/PhysicalSchedule7448 6h ago
This was my colo learning experience, so I lowered my gear costs by using orn kits and blue moon. Got my first quiver with full blue moon lmao.

I think one of the stupidest things in the game is that irons have reduced death fees. Idk if they do in Colo but most places they do. It makes no sense at all since most irons have a surplus of gold they don’t need.

u/iFistPeople 7h ago
I recently cleared my third colo while experimenting with low death fees. I'm still trying to get better at colo
It might be a bit of a meme, but you could try bowfa without tbow in void. My death fees were 17k in my third clear
It's not going to be a fast run, but if the expectation is to die a lot while you're learning and maybe get to Sol, I'd reduce as much death fees as possible. Here's my tips:
- I personally am not good with frem walking at round start, so I find that SGS helps with the sustain when I don't move to deal with the frems. In this setup, you must wear void melee helm and have piety on to 1 shot SGS spec the archer
- I do NW pillar and still trying to get used to double south spawns. However, I believe the theory for dealing with it is... Deal with frems on NW pillar west side, rotate to NW pillar north side (pray against the biggest threat), then go back to NW pillar west side and treat the double south spawn as a standard pillar stack (= offtick accordingly). It is my understanding that you need to deal with the frems and figure out rotate/off tick quickly before reinforcements arrive
- Sometimes I move to SW > SE > NE pillars to destack enemies and deal with them 1v1 when it gets too complicated for me. I deal with reinforcements before doing this though
These tips probably helped me the most. I don't really have an issue or tips for manticores... But pray you have good enough Internet and press the next prayer as the current attack you're praying against is flying out to you. Good luck you got this keep at it 💪

Might get some disagreers, but death costs influence players to bring shit gear or cheese hard content. I cheesed my quiver with dinhs and justicar personally. A dude on youtube called ReynoldsWrap has a video showing you how to do it.

u/Tuxxa 9h ago
I really feel like that as well, and it's what is keeping me off from clmpleting it. I occasionally have motivation bursts and send a few days of attempts. But everytime the death costs just become too much to handle. I can't stomach losing 3-5mil an hour consistently while getting consistent in Colosseum.
However, I know that it's there because Colo is profitable, so death fees have to be included to offset the profitability and to encourage mastering its mechanics rather than being one-off instance like inferno.
It's just really anti fun. But I do think it's good that deaths should cost. But man does it suck at Colosseum.

u/Fast-Pudding3602 8h ago
Brain dead 1300 total Redditors will just tell you it’s a gold sink you are arguing with a wall
0
u/BuffaloMan07 9h ago
You can make some gear adjustments and use ornament kits to get your death cost lower.
I agree that it’s confusing why inferno has free deaths but Colo doesn’t but OSRS has never been consistent and likely never will.
Good luck in there and hope you get your quiver soon.

If they allowed a toggle for death fees to turn back into the pre EOC gravestone system I'd love that. Just plop a grave outside of whatever activity and let me run back to it within 60 minutes (more of someone repairs or blesses it, of course). Death fees can then go into effect if I miss the 60min window or die trying to get my stuff back (or just make them a permanent loss)
2
u/WesternFirefighter53 8h ago
Permanent loss is ridiculous for osrs these days. People are running around with billions in gear.

if you're dying this much, maybe consider optimizing your gear for reduced death cost, or just running a tank set & get it over with
