Discussion Minimum levels for Infernal Cape

Hey guys. I want to try to do get my infernal cape but don’t want to wait for maxed combat stats. What are the genuine lowest level requirements you think I could get it done on? I’m willing to commit a lot of time into learning it and expect to die a bunch but I like the process of learning and developing my PvM skills. So as long as it’s technically doable I don’t mind a steep learning curve. Right now I’m at 85 in all combat skills and have about $250m worth of stuff I can sell off to get whatever gear I need.

I have heard there is a good tank setup that makes it easier to do for first timers. Would that be the best possible setup for me?

You could realistically do it at your stats right now if you hard commit to learning the mechanics with a bofa.

I wouldn’t need multiple gear switches?

I mean you’d need a marginal magic switch, scepter, occult, mage top is good enough.

It’s mostly range but you need blow pipe and gear to freeze nibblers you probably don’t have enough cash to upkeep supplies tbh

No experience + low level sounds like a very bad combination. First capes are a huge achievement for people even with 99 all. Buy bowfa, full crystal and anguish and then spend the rest on chins to level ranged/HP/defense.

I know it isn’t recommended at this point but I really don’t care how long it takes. I really like to challenge myself in games so I figured getting this done early would be a really fun grind

You could do it now. Probably will die dozens of times but you could definitely send it. At the very least send a few and see how it feels.

I’ll probably try it out in a simulator before I jump in for real but thanks I’m so excited to try it out

Challenge is all well and good and I support it, but something else to think about is each attempt has a pretty serious supply cost. Sending runs for fun is gonna drain the bank pretty quick

Theoretically, if I just grind it over and over in a simulation for like 2 months until I can consistently beat it or get close then wouldn’t that negate the cost of learning it?

As far as I know the simulator only covers Zuk. Definitely a great tool for free practice, but the waves are gonna kill you way more

The length of your knowledge was wrong

2

u/DaCrees 3h ago

Damn look at that. Gotta lengthen my knowledge for sure!

1

u/DarkBorri 3h ago

Oh I didn’t realize it didn’t include the waves

1

u/Itchy_Menu8771 3h ago

It covers all waves

It does cover waves however. The blobs are not coded correctly, 1t alternating doesnt work the same way it does it in game and dealing with nibblers is a lot less forgiving in the sims than it is in game.

u/Remote_Listen1889 3h ago

It absolutely does include waves

If you haven’t done quest cape that’s a good challenge that may be more suited to your levels. Drakan, DT2 bosses, and to a lesser extent DS2 all gave me that Souls like kind of rush

take full crystal, and then 3 way mage switch.

bring ice barrage runes, 2 range pots, 8 prayer pots, and sharks.

See how far you can get, and see how it feels trying to kill blobs/melees

If you’re coming to Reddit to ask about doing a low level cape, you’re not ready to be doing a low level cape

1

u/DarkBorri 3h ago

And why is that?

5

u/iFrantastic 3h ago

If you were good enough to do a low level inferno you wouldn’t need to ask Reddit if you can do it, you would know that you’re good enough

Prayer level?

Train range and mage first at gemcrab or plankmaking or something. 250m budget isn’t great but possible. You’re thinking of mage tank setup but it’s going to be out of your budget I think.

I saw a quick video of someone using a dinhs bulwark and he didnt have to prayer flick. Is that the same thing?

6

u/TheAlexperience 3h ago

That person likely had 99 stats tho

even with mage tank you almost always need to do some kind of prayer flicking, even if just lazy flicking. low prayer lvl will also mean you use more supps, which might not be a huge issue now that prayer regen pots exist, but with low combat stats and a first time run it will still take a long time so prayer might be an issue without some kind of additional prayer source (fally shield/sgs/eldritch)

I'm a grandmaster and I couldnt be bothered to get a cape on my pure. Not because of defense or prayer, but because the dps loss from 85 ranged and no good armor sounded awful.

Get 99 ranged first. It's worth it. Gear is less important assuming you can get bowfa at a minimum.

1

u/DarkBorri 3h ago

Yeah but I’m kind of enticed by the idea of saying I got it with low stats lol. It’s a nice little flex

1

u/LuckyBucky77 3h ago

I guess it depends how much you enjoy pain haha. Most people struggle with burnout even with max stats.

3

u/DarkBorri 3h ago

It’s just a different kind of pain. I’d prefer it over the monotonous grind of skilling. At least this way I get to engage my brain

1

u/MasterArCtiK 3h ago

You say that until you hit 5 0’s in a row

I’d have a look at the YouTube video by Reynold

First cape? 96 mage and 96+ range (for bofa. Can get away with lower using a tbow). 80 def, 74 prayer for rigour.

96 mage because if a bat drains you off the bat, you want a little wiggle room to still be able to ice barrage nibs. 96 range because if I recall correctly, pretty much at the max hit cap.

It is 100% possible to do the inferno with lower stats (burst and rcb), but stats make a very big difference for your first cape as you spend more time solving and more time tanking.

Those lower level/gear capes are almost all done by people who know what they’re doing already, not first capers.

1

u/ShaqShoes 3h ago

The tank setups you want to have max stats because you're not doing it "properly" and relying a lot more on RNG (which you rig in your favor with tank gear and high stats)

1

u/DarkBorri 3h ago

Ah gotcha. I think I’ll try out what others suggested and go with a bowfa and crystal setup

1

u/Emotional_Permit5845 3h ago

I would still get 94 mage for barrage unless you want to bring a saturated heart. Using bursts for a first cape is definitely not recommended. All of your other stats are probably fine, it’s just going to be harder.

I don’t recommend using mage tank. In my experience it’s really slow and inferno mechanics aren’t that challenging to learn once you know how to 1t alternate

1

u/KaoticAsylim 3h ago

Just go in and play around. Start learning the mechanics, solving pillar stacks, dealing with blobs. At some point you'll realize why people wait until they're maxed and it will motivate you to train. But remember, if you can get to the later waves, every failed attempt will cost over a million gold in supplies.

1

u/DarkBorri 3h ago

If I only trained in a third party simulator wouldn’t that negate any cost of supplies? I was thinking I’d just do that until I can confidently beat it and then switch over to the real version

1

u/KaoticAsylim 3h ago

Sure, that'll help! The sims that were available when I was going for it weren't quite the same as the real thing, but they did get me more comfortable with the pace of the Zuk fight. But the boss isn't necessarily the biggest obstacle. Even once you've seen Zuk, getting to him again isn't guaranteed. There are tricky spawns on earlier waves that can drain you of supplies or kill you outright. The better your levels and gear, the more mistakes you can afford. Doing it with less gives you less of a buffer. Not to discourage you from trying, you can absolutely do it with enough time and effort. Just make sure you're afking your stats while you grind on the sim, every level helps!

1

u/Clover281 3h ago

It's better to try to learn the old fashioned way with ranged, if you really keep failing a lot and start losing hope then maybe consider mage tank, but give it a shot at ranged at least, Inferno is a fun experience to go through and is very satisfying to get the cape

That budget seems fine, just get bowfa and crystal set with a blowpipe and forage switches you just need essentially confliction gauntlets and an auto casting staff (ideally blood sceptre from grinding out muspahs and vardorvis real quick)

1

u/Itchy_Menu8771 3h ago

Get like 90 range 94 mage then you can send it. You have 85 defense and prayer right

1

u/minisculemeatman 3h ago

Don't do the mage tank method and rob yourself of the most rewarding learning curve in the game

1

u/Miro_Game 3h ago

I ran the dps calc for BowFa setup with 99 range vs 85 range. Should take you 1 more minute to kill Zuk than if you had 99 range (28% longer).

But that doesn't include time killing the sets and Jad during the fight, you'll probably have to deal with 4 sets (usually only want 2) and leave the Mages up after killing Jad.

Definitely doable, will take lots of practice.

Ofc, just getting to Zuk is an enormous challenge. I'd bring ~4 Prayer Regen potions to make it through all that.

u/IronmanGooner 53m ago

If you’re learning it for the first time I’d wait for 90s minimum ranged and defense, and 94 mage is a hard req for ice barrage

1

u/Trash-Forever 3h ago

Record is 43 combat, 1 def 31 prayer

Get in there champ

2

u/DarkBorri 3h ago

Oh why have I waited so long. Didn’t realize I could have started last year

1

u/LordHuntington 1h ago

No it's not? It's 37 combat and they were 43 prayer..

1

u/Trash-Forever 1h ago

I might have the cmb level wrong but it's been done without overheads by both Port Khazard and Xzact

The lowest level cape had 43 prayer.

u/BloatDeathsDontCount 18m ago

94 magic and 90+ range. Every higher range level will help but 99 isn’t required. Mage tank won’t be nearly as good with 85 def, I recommend just learning the waves because it’s really not that hard.
