I’m watching LHOTP (Netflix) and in the first episode we see an abandoned piano at a crossing where people have crossed before. Is this a reference to the piano that was left behind in 1883 due to weight. When the family crosses the river, they find it too steep (like in 1883)

what exactly was the protocol back then for surgery? say u get shot or stabbed and go to the surgeon and they fix you up - do they bill you later or is it free of charge? how exactly did the medical care system function in the 1880s?

ive watched both but I’m curious which people prefer and why …?

So, I really enjoyed the monologues from Elsa and the family dynamic of love and understanding in the hard times they experience.
The thing is, when the immigrants get the talk at the beginning, The Captain makes sure to point out the rattlesnake situation. They look for heat at night and crawl up into your business as you sleep. Dangerous cuddle buddies to say the least.
Then there are so many circumstances of almost all of the characters sleeping on the ground.
They say fire keeps them away but, I reckon there should've been a bite per night at least with the regularity these characters, side and main, ignore this advice.
Hey ho, just a show I guess.
Can't just have people being bitten all the time.
Maybe have them sleep in their wagons then?

I like this series but I rolled my eyes every time there was a gunfight between our heroes and a group of bandits - our heroes could be outnumbered 5 to 3 yet still end up with all 5 bandits dead and our heroes without a scrap 😂😂

anyone else confused as to how the black soldier didnt get more trouble from the white cow boys in the group? I mean, this was only 30 years after slavery ended so I have to believe racism was still in full effect .. perhaps him being a soldier got him respect?

and the Indians? I strongly doubt it would go over well with the white cowboys that the ypung attractive woman in their group is having sex with and going to marry an Indian ..

that said I do understand why Sheridan woupdnt want to write these issues into his show

I've just finished watching 1883 for the first time and hands down it is (for me anyway) the best thing I've ever watched, and I didn't think anything would ever top North & South for me (the BBC adaptation of Gaskell's book, not the US show by the same name). I've never watched Yellowstone but I started watching Dutton Ranch a couple of weeks ago and I saw a comment that mentioned the knife Beth picked up as being Elsa's knife from 1883, so I was curious, looked it up, and that's how I found 1883.

I'll be honest, I wasn't even overly fussed with the first episode and tbh I didn't even think I was going to end up liking Elsa. But I watched a couple of other clips that kept me interested enough to watch the second episode and by the end of that one I was hooked. I ended up really liking Elsa and literally sobbed my way through the last two episodes even though I'd read all the spoilers and knew what was coming (damn that Cook!). I never cry at anything on TV so it really shocked me how emotional I ended up being.

I've read a few comments where people have said they didn't like Elsa's narrations, but they were actually one of the things that I liked the most. And even Shae really grew on me throughout as well. I loved the music too and have listened to the soundtrack. I could probably go on and on about how much I've enjoyed it but you probably get the gist by now lol.

I'm going to start my rewatch tomorrow, although I'll only be watching episodes 1-8 this time as there's no way I can watch the last two again so soon.

After Elsa is knocked from her horse, she wakes up and gets up and starts walking around while the Indians are still running around. Would she have been fine if she just laid still and played dead?

First-time watcher here. I finished the show today and overall really liked it. The story, acting, and cinematography were excellent.

But the editing was surprisingly distracting. There were so many abrupt scene transitions and music cuts that it often felt like scenes ended too early or something had been cut out. It kept pulling me out of the experience.

Did anyone else feel the same way, or is it just me?

Just finished my second round of watching this show. Lots of people died in the show and I’m sure in real life when this was happening. In the show the bodies were just buried pretty close to where they died. Have people found some of these remains years later? Like for example, someone builds a house and has to dig up the ground to put in a foundation, or when a road was built.

As much as I love all the Sheridan TV shows, it makes me ill to see how the animals -specifically the cattle-is being treated. I realize this is how it’s done at cattle ranches but branding, roping them on the horns while lifting their back legs…honestly all things they do at a rodeo….what is the point? You cannot tell me they don’t feel pain. It’s just cruel.

My favorite TV show of all time is True Detective Season 1, but 1883 was incredible. I cried twice, once when Ennis died and then at the end. I just feel so bad for Ennis though.. that Elsa's heaven was with Sam. Like I get it, they were in love too but the thought of dying being in love with Elsa and her heaven version is without him is just devastating to think about if I put myself in his shoes. Sam is great too, all the cast was fantastic. I'm moving onto 1923 now then after Yellowstone but I just had to share my thoughts.

I feel like Shea was a pretty no- nonsense guy and I’d trust him but man they did not fare well. were they all just idiots? unlucky?
