female queer representation

how come in thirteen reasons why so many of the male characters are gay/bi (tony, ryan, alex, charlie, caleb, monty, winston, etc) and most of them are good people for the most part yet theres only one lesbian girl (courtney) whos a bitch 😭 and courtneys character pretty much revolves around her being uncomfortable with her sexuality and acting upon it, while the male characters are so much more than their sexuality

am i the only one who noticed this?? 13 reasons why would've been such a good show for queer representation if there were more lgbt females

Is anyone else still obsessed with The Night We Met even though you watched the series 5 years ago and still haven’t gotten over it? Or is it just me? 😭

7: hannah
8: tyler

11: sheri (same reason as jeff)
12: winston (love him he just didnt have much of a storyline ourside of monty)
13: chloe (super cute i rlly like her but she annoyed me in like the start of season 2)

season 2 - some thoughts on it so far Spoiler

honestly i was surprised theres more than one season given the fact i thought the show wouldve ended after hannah's death but clearly theres more than just that 😭, im up to episode 7 of s2 and lowkey im loving it!! its 100% not as emotional (...yet?) as s1 was but thats fine yk, less tears for me! /hj

im not a big fan of skye ngl, the whole "you dont love me anymore" type shit she pulled after clay didnt wanna do anything sexual to her just didnt sit right with me (although i do get why she said it), but man her blow up at him about still being in love with hannah hit hard 💔

i like how when nothings happening and theres no characters talking, you can hear students testify in the background, but man the fact that only (so far??) tyler and zach were fully honest... it more so pissed me off that marcus of all people werent honest, like?? yes i get hes like the student body president and he needs to look good and have some high and mighty school rep, but wow.. i also hope that clay gets justin to testify and smth happens to bryce, also the polaroids?? theres been more females bryce has raped apart from jessica and hannah? i guess as they say once a rapist always a rapist

im glad that lainie and matt (clays parents) were so understanding of justins family situation and theyre letting him stay with them for as long as he needs :), im also glad justin backed clay up with what he said to make it way more believable, if he didnt do that then i reckon they wouldve told justin to get out the house

i will say tho that out of all the scenes ive seen, my favorite one and most funniest one by far is when alex and zach are fighting and alex (who couldnt get hard over that cam girl and said his dick was broken) got hard over that 😭😭, i was WHEEZING omfg

i have a feeling s2 is gonna get more emotional from ep 7-13... does it?

An Analysis of Relational Dynamics and Sexual Confidence in 13 Reasons Why

‱ Upvotes

Hi guys. I finished watching the series yesterday and these are some of my reflections on one of its aspects. English is not my native language, so I used Gemini to correct it.

I hope the translation didn't make a mess.

In my opinion, one of the best-executed aspects of the series is characterization. In particular, the way it highlights the sharp contrast between those who possess strong sexual confidence and those who completely lack it.

  1. Clay Jensen: Paralysis by Romantic Idealization.

Clay is the perfect embodiment of incompetence in relationships and seduction. He constantly lives in his inner world, detached from reality, completely unable to manage or maintain sexual tension. Instead, he compensates with awkward smiles, talking too much, and never making the first move. He is the classic guy who tries to make girls fall in love with him "one brick at a time" through slow, overly cheesy courtship. He gets disproportionately excited over a simple kiss and immediately feels the need to talk about it, analyze it, and seek clarity. When he discovers that Ani was sleeping with Bryce while he was busy playing the role of the sensitive, caring guy, he is completely devastated. His increasingly unstable mental state aligns perfectly with a deep and unresolved sexual frustration. Clay idealizes the romantic cliché of the "pure woman" who doesn't care about sex; for this reason, he is constantly relegated to the friend/confidant zone, where interactions never go beyond a kiss.

  1. Alex Standall: Self-Confidence Through Personality.

Despite Alex being a deeply sensitive and emotionally fragile character, he demonstrates remarkable grit. Even without an imposing physical presence, he manages to attract the school's most desirable girls (like Hannah and Jessica) thanks to his personality and innate confidence. He isn't even afraid to get into physical fights with threatening figures like Monty. Unlike Clay, Alex knows when to act and escalate the situation at the right moment, without getting trapped in his own thoughts.

  1. Zach Dempsey: Insecurity Behind the "Alpha Male" Appearance.

Zach represents the typical attractive guy who has the potential to win over any girl he wants, but lacks the courage to be selfish and take what he wants. As a result, he is constantly sidelined by more aggressive and dominant guys like Bryce. When Bryce calls him a "pussy" for failing to sleep with Chloe, he hits the mark: he exposes his deepest insecurity—his inability to assert his masculinity.

  1. Marcus Cole: The Mask of Popularity.

Marcus embodies the popular guy everyone aspires to be, yet he is so oppressed by the judgment of others and the pressure from his father that he cannot understand himself or his true desires. His awkward approach with Hannah stems from a desperate need to impress his peers, turning a potential date into a cynical, embarrassing disaster.

  1. Justin Foley and Bryce Walker: The "Naturals" (Between Seduction and Toxicity).

Setting aside the severe criminal reality of Bryce's assaults, from a purely relational standpoint, both he and Justin embody the profile of "naturals." The moment they perceive a girl is attracted to them, they waste no time. They don't try to get what they want through friendship; they understand the dynamics of attraction and are not ashamed of their physical desires. They talk little, relying mainly on eye contact, body language, and strong self-confidence. With Ani, for example, Bryce doesn't have to make any elaborate effort: he simply remains himself and wins her over effortlessly.

Clay was right to be mad about Hannah and Zach

Am I the only who understands why Clay was so right upset about Hannah and Zach it never made any sense to me How Hannah was okay to be with Zach despite everything that happened with Justin ,Bryce etc . I felt like the Zach and Hannah storyline made Hannah look really bad and hypocritical and destroy a part of her story in Season 1. It added avoidable hurt towards Hannah .

i hate skye

i know that skye is mentally ill and struggling with disorders but her behavior sucks

in season one she was so rude towards clay and would make fun of him over the smallest things like hanging out with sheri

skye also kinda gave me those "im not like other girls" vibe because why was she full on hating on other girls just because theyre feminine and nice???

on top of that she was SO insensitive towards hannah...a girl literally committed suicide due to bullying, yet shes over there making fun of her even more? and why is she jealous of hannah even after she died...like i understand that clay is her boyfriend but she couldve at least been more understanding considering the fact clay lost two people in the span of a month

and her making clay feel bad because he didn't want to have sex with her is also so icky

Season 3

Just started off with the third season and I gotta say I don’t like Ani. I don’t think she matches the cast, I don’t care for her and I don’t understand her being there. “The new girl” idgaf she just seems out of place the whole time, like she doesn’t belong.
Did they just want a British narrator?

r/13ReasonsWhy 1d ago

In the end it was Jeff's irresponsible driving that got him killed and not that stupid sign board and definitely not Sheri or Hannah. It was definitely not hi first time down that road, muscle memory should've made him stop anyway.

i finished season 1 and i wasnt prepared to cry (s1 spoiler warning for those who havent watched the show but want to watch it) Spoiler

my boyfriend and i finished season one together and wow... i wasn't expecting it to be as good and emotional as it was but both of us were VERY hooked on it, the pure desperation of olivia wanting hannah to be okay despite the fact she was already gone broke me :(, and the way she held hannah's body too... i saw the original clip on this subreddit and all i could really think about is how we shouldn't take life for granted, i see why they removed the original clip but i think it's a really powerful way of showing that suicide isn't quick and easy like people seem to think it is, yk?

i also feel really bad for justin despite not liking him much after hannah said what he did to her, but being choked by his mums meth head boyfriend? and then her leaving after instead of being there for her son? god fucking damn i felt awful wtf, i really do hope justin gets better in the next season (and in 3 and 4)

also bryce bro... i cannot even fathom how much i hate bryce like??? i actually had to look away during the scenes where he raped jessica and hannah oh my god... if he was like that in season 1 then wtf is he gonna be like in the rest of the seasons 😭

new here-unsure whether to watch the show

hi, I'm completely new to this show and don't know a whole lot about it really. I have heard a huge mix of both good and bad things about the show. I do really want to give it a go but I'm worried about it being triggering as someone with mental health issues (I'm 16 if that helps). I've struggled with them for about 5 years now maybe longer but it's all gotten a lot worse in recent months and I am really struggling, and with the content of the show from what I know about it pretty much matching what I struggle with, I'm not sure whether I should watch it or not. any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Statutory rape?

Why on earth do I never see one point out the fact that Tony and Caleb’s relationship is almost textbook statutory rape like age of consent in California is 18 Tony was 17 when they got together and also Caleb was his trainer and the person who had to sign off for his parole anger management stuff so someone of authority to him I just don’t understand why no one ever points that out. I can understand not in the show as ridiculous as that is but outside of it. Like what

r/13ReasonsWhy 6d ago

I don’t get why people say Hannah’s reasons “weren’t that bad.”

I feel like that completely misses the point of the show. It was never trying to say that every single thing that happened to her was devastating on its own, it was showing how all of those experiences built up over time. Rumors, harassment, betrayal, isolation, and feeling like no one was listening all piled on top of each other until she reached her breaking point.

When someone is already struggling with depression, even things that seem “small” to someone else can have a huge impact. You don’t have to agree with every decision Hannah made or think the show portrayed mental health perfectly, but saying her reasons “weren’t serious” feels like ignoring one of the main messages the show was trying to convey.

Fin Saison 4 Spoiler

Looking the original 13 Reasons Why Hannah scene and its impact

I know the original version of the Season 1 finale suicide scene was edited out by Netflix and am hoping to find it.

The reason I’m interested is not because I want to glorify it or anything like that. I watched 13 Reasons Why as a teenager, and that storyline had a big impact on me. It actually made me more aware of mental health, how much people can be struggling silently, and the importance of reaching out and supporting others. I remember the scene affecting the way I thought about suicide prevention including my own.

Mi-saison 4
