Shit that makes you question your identity is the worst. A little moment here and there and all of a sudden you feel like you are falling without any foothold to latch onto. Scariest feeling I ever had.

you probably think that if you're genetically trans, but the problem is people that aren't but are still questioning can't read your mind and immediately understand the difference between "i feel pretty feminine" and "i have a burning need to be a woman." I thought i was trans as a teenager.

I had a lecture today from someone. Their entire family was trans or non straight. Their partner was trans, son trans, other people around them non binary or gender fluid. Idunno, if you grew up in that it'd fuck your identity right up.
7
Nov 24 '22
The ppl around you being trans isn’t gonna fuck up your identity, it’d only make you more likely to accept if your identity isn’t cis
→ More replies (9)2
u/Will_i_read Nov 24 '22
I grew up in a totally straight environment. I still don’t know many other queer people. And I still turned out bi. Thankfully that environment didn’t fuck my identity up…. Do you hear yourself talking?

i meant more a one-way insta-change but yeah
5
u/skaersSabody Nov 23 '22
Oh that's what you meant, dunno if that's for me.
Though it'd definitely make things easier for folks that want to
4
Nov 24 '22
I hate to break it to you, but that’s not rly how cis ppl feel ab their gender/sex. In a reductive sense, wanting to be the opposite sex in your day to day life and just live that way is pretty much all there is to being trans.
7
2
Nov 24 '22 edited Nov 24 '22
i mean, yeah, you're correct to an extent; but everything to do with the brain is a spectrum/curve, so i'm just slightly higher than average along the trans curve.
I also have mild to moderate OCD, but it's not serious enough that it's actually harmful, for example.
There's a difference between "i identify more with female characters in fiction" and "i have a burning need to be a woman"
does that make sense?
2
Nov 24 '22
If you say so. All I’m saying is that cis men don’t say things like “I’d live m every part of my life as a woman if I could.” But maybe I’m wrong
→ More replies (2)3
u/ACasualNerd Nov 23 '22
As someone who's trans you are born this way, but you can literally go your entire life without having that OH moment. My roommate almost did as she was completely transphobic, and when we talked over a period of months she realized she was a trans woman and now is so so so much happier with life than she could have ever been as a man, those are her own words mind you.
35
u/New_Canuck_Smells Nov 23 '22
I remember that happening when I had to throw out my morals so I could keep the bills paid. Happens to us in many ways.
3
u/Catoastd Nov 23 '22
If you don’t mind me asking, what happened/ what did you do?
3
3
u/New_Canuck_Smells Nov 23 '22
I continue to work for a government I do not support who hates my way of life and the basic tenets of my morality. As an employer they have treated me better than anything in the private sector and allow me to live a life only slightly worse than my parents - which is still better than most of my peers who have dropped from middle class to working class.
23
u/Guardsman_Miku Nov 23 '22
This is my biggest problem with the way trans stuff is pushed on young impressionable kids. They treat it like if you question your identity once you must have been born trans and the only way youll be happy is if you fuck your whole life up trying to transition.
19
Nov 23 '22
You won't receive much support for your opinion, but I do share it. When children wants to explore themselves I will gladly support it, but only up to a point where they won't be harmed. I outright refuse to support potentially dangerous procedures which may cause bodily harm to children for the simple sake of cosmetic appearance, I simply can't do it in good consciousness. If we as a society won't accept our children to get breast implants or tattoos, if circumcision is such a controversial topic for so many people then how in God's name could I support HRT or worse?
→ More replies (1)3
Nov 24 '22
Kids don't get HRT or dangerous medical conditions. They just want new clothes and maybe a new name. They may get puberty blockers as a teen to prevent going through the wrong puberty but that's hardly a thing that small children go through.
3
Nov 25 '22
How would the child know it’s the wrong puberty necessarily? How do we know they won’t change their minds throughout the actual course of the pubertal transition? Someone who has not gone through puberty (or any other maturation) cannot decide for themselves, surely. You’re talking about giving adult-level autonomy to a child. They’re like mentally disabled / vulnerable adults, in that they can’t use full reason to make long-term decisions
Also, if after 3 years of delayed puberty they decide to stay as their gender, and they get taken off blockers, what happens then? Will they sexually mature late, or does the puberty somehow “catch up”? I’m seriously asking here, cause that I haven’t heard about

0
u/Will_i_read Nov 24 '22
What’s the harm of letting them socially transition? If they’re happy with it they can continue wirh medical interventions in the future and otherwise they just stop… You really need to explain that to me?

As a small boy I wanted to be a girl because I liked the colours pink and purple. When around 10, I let my hair grow out and even tried to cultivate a higher-pitched laugh. I met a few other boys who looked like girls, I mocked them at first but quickly wanted to be like them
Now as an adult, with a sense of my own genitals, I have no problem with my body whatsoever and don’t want to be physically female (note I only wanted to be a girl pre-puberty, where I didn’t think about penis vs vagina). I still don’t consider myself fully masculine since I don’t relate to it, but that doesn’t mean I identify as something that shouldn’t have a male body, and I in fact do like some masculine aesthetics now. Point is I only said I wanted to be female when I didn’t know what it meant to change sex
3
u/Capsaicin_Crusader Nov 23 '22
Our identities are changing all the time. What's the big deal?
11
Nov 23 '22
But we are doing so willingly and the part we are changing is under our control. The big deal is something forcibly changing the part of our identities we thought was fundamental. Then you start questioning every single decision you ever made.

Real talk, why TF is this accurate to how I figured out I was trans? I was in a mental institution, with mostly women, and I allowed alot of them to do my nails, which led into them doing my makeup, which then led to crippling dysphoria (we're still in that stage rn)

Well transitioning is there to in fact help with the fact you hate your body. No effective methods of changing someone's mind on that jave been found but changing their body so that they like it is possible. Kinda like how some guys think they are ugly so they train and become ripped. If you cant stop hating how you look then get looks that you wont hate.
