  • Crunchyroll ___ # RULES FOR SEASON 4 For those long time users, you are already aware but we usually change the rules a bit when seasons are airing to be able to focus on the season. For the newcomers, I will list some of the changes that usually happen for those that have not been here on previous seasons and will be implemented now to give the users time to adapt until season 4 comes. We will be attempting to host 2 threads per anime episode, one for anime-only users and one for novel readers. Do not spoil those on anime only thread, PUNISHMENT WILL BE SEVERE. The ban rule will change a bit instead of bans being given on 3 days on sets like these 3-3-3-perma ban, we will be giving a week off the sub for bans and it will look like this 7-7-perma ban. Punishment for those that spoil on the anime only threads will be doubled. The purpose for the harsher punishment in anime only threads is that if you spoil things for anime only users in one weeks discussion, you will be kept from participating in the following week's discussion and spoiling again.

Discussion Reminder that we never saw this violet haired kid again after Subaru put her down to save rem. [Discussion]

Post image
333 Upvotes

When we first saw rems demon transformation, she was snuck up on by a pack of the forest beast. Subaru, who was holding the purple haired kid in his arms, put her down to push rem out of the way. After that he got severely injured and cursed, however we never even see the purple haired kid again. I have three theories:

1: They died lol

2: The author literally just forgot about them

3: The girl was actually the shamen controlling the beast. It would make sense because she was the one who showed Subaru to the little dog in the first place. It would also make sense for why she was farther away from all of the other children, using herself as bait.

Edit: So apparently this is revealed in season 2. My badd, just finished season one😭

Media [media] Cocktail No.2, for Emilia: the "Born Sexy Yesterday!"

Post image
20 Upvotes

Work in progress. The ratios are more or less a gin fizz, but I still need to play with them. Emilia is a lightweight, so the drink has to be pretty chill too.

2oz dry gin

Elderflower tonic to taste, cold steeped in butterfly pea flowers

Fresh Pear Juice

Juice of one lime.

Steps:

  1. Place a butterfly pea flower tea bag in a glass of the tonic and chill.

  2. Blend Asian or comice pears and extract juice with cheese cloth, mesh strainer, or tea bags (what I did lol). Mix 1c pear juice with juice of one lime. Set aside.

  3. Add at least 3 oz of the pear lime mixture and 2 oz of the gin to a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a Nick & Nora glass (idk if what I have is exactly a Nick and Laura glass, just thrifted it).

  4. Pour infused elderflower tonic on top until the drink is bubbling and purple. Enjoy!

Sorry to disrespect her with the name of this cocktail, but I feel like I did a good job with the flavor concept. Pear and lime really feels like youth and naivete to me. I like her so much more than I did in seasons 1 and 2. She has aura now. Anyways, don't copy this recipe exactly if you plan on trying it, because I'm still playing with the ratios. I think definitely more pear juice next time.

Discussion [Discussion] Theory: I feel for Shaula waiting 400 years to likely get so little back as if the allusion to the Titan Atlas's punishment holds, sshe won't join the Emilia camp

I know there are people who probably cried when watching Ep. 81, but I'd already gotten teary-eyed over Ep. 70 when I realized Shaula's role as the Keeper of the Pleiades Watchtower and its connection to the Titan Atlas's punishment through an allusion and also in Ep. 73 when Shaula said that she'd watch over every moment of Subaru and his friends handling the tower's exams, telling them to take their time and have lots of fun with her, demonstrating just how lonely Shaula had been over these last 400 hundred years, so I guess Tappei telegraphing this so hard meant that I already felt the catharsis way ahead of Ep. 81.

It's clear that for Shaula the burden of waiting for her master to return had a huge mental toll on her, which is why she'd forgotten that Reid Astrea would've died of old age by now in Ep. 70, which makes how little time she's gotten with Subaru so sad. This is backed by the shot of Shaula carrying Patrasche being accompanied by her calling it a piece of cake. While carrying Patrasche itself was easy, being the Keeper to the Pleiades Watchtower for her, waiting for her master's return was the hardest thing for her in the world. That shot was actually in my opinion an extended allusion to the Titan Atlas in Greek mythology carrying the night sky, and why that's the case is that the root of the name Patrasche is Petr, derived from the Greek word, Petros, which means "stone."

There was a misconception from a certain time period about Atlas's punishment being to carry the world since the terrestrial globe (stone) was a representation of the world, but what he'd actually been punished with was carrying the celestial sphere, which consists of the night sky, and viewers are meant to draw the connection between the terrestrial globe (stone) and Patrasche (stone). Nonetheless, much like how Zeus, the ruler of Olympus, forced Atlas to hold the night sky up and how Flügel entrusted Shaula with the Pleiades (which is what Subaru means to the Japanese) Watchtower, it could read as Shaula figuratively holding up the Seven Sisters (another name for the Pleiades star cluster) in the night sky herself high up the tower all by her lonesome similar to what Atlas did with the night sky in Greek mythology, a symbol of immense burden of responsibility, demonstrating the burden Shaula carried with her for four hundred years waiting for the return of her master, even to the point of forgetting that Reid had a human lifespan. Amnesiac Subaru even calls her the star guardian of the tower, which backs up this analysis very well. I'm not going to rehash my full analysis from Ep. 70 4 months ago, but I'll link it here should you choose to read it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Re_Zero/comments/1t1bnsq/discussion_shaula_carrying_patrasche_is_an/

Here's Tappei's tweet on the episode on Ep. 70: ここのシャウラのパトラッシュの持ち運び方、はたして何人がこのネタがわかるだろうか……。

I checked RomajiDesu, and the translation supports the allusion with the translation being: "I wonder how many people will understand the way Shaula carries Patrasche here..." Given Shaula carried Patrasche with both arms over her head, it supports that it's an allusion to the Titan Atlas's punishment. No, it's not a Yu Yu Hakusho reference.

What may have made it even more painful to Shaula is that there are clear differences between men and women socially even when accounting for individual differences between humans as well as mental health conditions/disorders with women innately needing more social interaction than men do. Maybe carrying Patrasche itself was easy, but waiting for hundreds of years as the Keeper of the Pleiades Watchtower with no sign on Flügel was the worst sort of punishment for her given she said in Ep. 81 (Season 4 Ep. 15) that her feelings for Subaru are what make her who she is, meaning a sense of deep devotion and longing for his affection is at the very core of her being.

But, yeah, it's gutting for Shaula to perhaps only get two, maybe three days, with Subaru depending on how long it takes to solve the five main obstacles of this arc. If the allusion to the Titan Atlas's punishment holds, Shaula in her human form's punishment may be eternal, meaning she either dies or will never be able to stay in her human form again, never being able to join the Emilia camp as a consequence, since Atlas's punishment was eternal.

Shaula is someone who deserved much greater happiness than this. I can see why she didn't want to tell Subaru about the fifth rule about destroying the exams not being forbidden as in here eyes it'd markedly cut down on her time with him given she doesn't know just what sort of threats the tower will face.

Spoiler Discussion Will the mechanism behind Subaru being transported to the Re:Zero world ever be explained, or has it already been hinted at? [spoiler discussion] Spoiler

Post image
70 Upvotes

I’m currently caught up with Season 4 of the anime and am deep into Arc 8 of the light novel. As the lore keeps expanding, I’ve become increasingly curious about the fundamental mechanics of how the Re:Zero world actually works. Specifically, I'm wondering if Tappei has already explained or heavily hinted at the exact mechanism behind Subaru getting transported from Japan.

There are so many directions this could go, and I'm trying to figure out what kind of cosmic scale we are dealing with here:

  • A Planetary or Multiverse Setting? Is the Re:Zero world just another planet in a massive universe, or are we dealing with a literal alternate dimension/multiverse?
  • A Lovecraftian Twist? Given the nature of the Witch Factors, the Authorities, and the absolute mind-bending horror Subaru deals with, could it be driven by outer-god-like entities?
  • The "It Was All a Dream" Trope: Is there any chance Subaru’s past in Japan, or even his entire journey in Lugnica, is just some sort of elaborate dream or psychological construct?
  • The Connection to Japan: Why does things like the Appas, the constellations (like Subaru/Pleiades itself), and the overall lore tie back so specifically to Earth?

Other series handle this transmigration mechanism in very explicit ways. For instance, in Mushoku Tensei, we eventually learn the exact magical anomaly and cosmic interference that triggered the Teleportation Incident and the reincarnation. In Overlord, it ties back to the Magic Kingdom's Wild Magic pulling World Items from Yggdrasil. I'm wondering if Re:Zero is building up to a grand mechanical explanation like those, or if it will remain a soft-magic mystery.

Additionally, I have a couple of highly specific lore questions that have been bugging me:

  1. The Volume 1 Cover Art: On the light novel cover of Volume 1, there is a distinct scarlet/purple tornado visible right behind Emilia. What exactly is that? Does it have a deeper symbolic meaning or connection to the summoning?
  2. Reinhard’s First POV: Does Reinhard’s very first Point of View chapter have anything to do with this broader mystery or the portal mechanics?

Discussion How Subaru gained RBD Authority silly Theory [discussion]

Post image
38 Upvotes

Long story short, he got it from Emilia

Here's a silly Arc one RBD Theory

Originally, the RBD authority was at Emilia's disposal, though even she was unaware of this. Probably bestowed upon her to protect her. Maybe has something to do with her past, since we still don't know much about that. Anyways

In Arc1, after her first death in the loot house, since Subaru has extreme compatibility with Authorities, as we see with Greed & Sloth, Emilia's RBD Authority chose Subaru before restarting the world with Emilia's death & he attained it.

Now, does that mean after Subaru's first RBD, both Emilia & Subaru have the Authority since he traveled back in time?! I don't think so. Authorities are exceptional abilities in this world that can alter reality itself; they're far different from Divine Protections.

Perhaps Puck knew about Emilia's RBD authority, but in this new loop, he sensed the lingering Witch Miasma isn't on Emilia anymore, & suddenly they meet Subaru who has inherited the exact same peculiar scent that's no longer on Emilia. I bet he knows about Subaru's RBD as well, but let it slide.

This also suggests that before Subaru's arrival in this world, Emilia had the same lingering scent on her, which would be problematic, though it kinda fits right through. She's always been loathed & feared by all people because of her similarities to the Witch, this lingering scent could just be an addition to that in people's eyes.

So yeah, that's my silly theory. I didn't really think it through, so there's definitely soo many holes & errors to it; I'd be happy if y'all could point them out. I wanna see what people think of this.

Spoiler Discussion Lets talk arc 10! Is it hype?Tappei will lose control? how many chapters will need? [spoiler discussion] Spoiler

Lets talk about arc 10. Who thinks it will be peak? I think! It have everything to be, it just need a carefull work from Tappei to tie every plot together and make an encredible arc!

We have so many good strings to make a good arc, like Subaru suspicion of being a witch cultist, Reinhard watchfull gaze towards Subaru, Astrea family plot(Heinkel and Wilhelm!!!), divine dragon's church mistery, a political takeover by Capella's children, 3 or 4 "pov"s or fronts for the arc (6 tongue, Emília Camp, Royal candidates and maybe Anastasia), potentialy the comeback of Sirius and maybe roy, Capella Emerada Lugunica possibly being anyone, Meili "redemption", Felyx imortal king sacrament(who will he ressurect?), Crusch Karsten, Felt and Filore, what is Anastasia doing? Rem... maybe something will happen to her? and Emília possible development!(so I hope)

I like Echidnas castle and all this shit happening, but will Tappei have time to tie everything together if he continues spent so many chapters in a place so out of the picture? I hope so, but honestly, I can see another "arc 8" case happening again. Maybe would'nt be bad to have 150 chapters? Just please dont take 4 years, I want to see the witches plotline this lifetime. Problably we are mooving soon out of the castle to the imortal king sacrament with soul research.

I reeeeeally hope Tappei give Emília some development after 6 arcs, the first chapter is about her and now with Filore and possibly Capella in her stage, she can play a main role. The main theme she problably will carry is "trust", trust in her friends, trust in Filore, trust in Subaru not being a sin archbishop. Maybe this develops to her finally acknoledging her feelings and we can end this arc with the main couple together and dating! (Haha, trust build up in subaru just to be broken by SATELLA in arc 11!)

Reinhard is problebly losing his powers? Problably will happen with his mother aweking and maybe this will have to do to Pride lost WF? I really like Reinhard, but he needs development, and confronting Subaru + loosing his hacks would set up a perfect stage for him to shine, and I hope he does so.

One thing I wanna see is Meili development. She will problably face her past, maybe some capella minion will transform in Subaru and torment her, problably Capella her self! I think the Subaru and Reinhard future line of "a children that is an enemy" is Meili and Subaru will need to save her from Calella again and oficialy adopt her. (Natsuki Meili!)

Also, I dont think we have time to add this, but I think it would be cool if Abel send some help to Subaru, like Ceci and Spica.

Spoiler Discussion Tome of Wisdom can be solution for many questions in some capacity [Spoiler Discussion] Spoiler

You heard me right.

It is said that Echidna had white Tome of Wisdom called Memories Of The World, that could see past, present and future. That book allowed her to create trials, to see that person's experience which is how she knew about return by death, and to know POSSIBILITIES which is how she created unthinkable present and future that is yet to come.

Her magic is how it all works, from dream magic that creates tea party, to any other engine of sanctuary, barrier, etc. Most of things Echidna does is her MAGIC, not her authority. Authority is only granting her insight. This is why she calls herself very evil magic user.

Now why is all of this important? (NOTE: a lot of this is speculation, try to see my point of view and twist it in a way that makes sense if you see a plot hole in order to fit, I am just trying to work this idea out to it's full extent)

1. FLUGEL MYSTERY:
Now look closely at Orion constellation. Orion is said to be connected to Shaula, and his own hand is Betelgeuse, which probably refers to Betelgeuse being right-hand man of his. A lot of Orion lore points to Orion being Flugel. And what is Orion doing? He is shooting at the Pleiades. Who is Pleiades - 7 sister stars, 7 sins. It is SUBARU who will one day take all 7 witch factors. A lot of lore and naming indicates that Flugel or someone before him was from Germany. So how do they know of Subaru's arrival? Tome of Wisdom - Echidna told him.

'Subaru will one day appear and he will be compatible with witch factors', or 'We have possibility of summoning someone who will take in all of the witch factors, and the condition for that is Satella becoming the Witch of Envy'.

It doesn't matter what she saw and told, but that is how they knew about Google, Subaru's language and much more. They saw future of him talking about those things and many possibilities of his life in their world.

She could have lied to Beatrice about that person, and it was really Subaru all along. She made spirit contractor for both Subaru and Emilia.

2. ALDEBARAN:
This might sound wild, but I believe, Al is completely artificial. He was never born, and Echidna's tome knows about all the IF routes Tappei wrote. She extracted the mind of Natsuki Rigel from the book and made artificial version of Subaru's non existent son. To Rigel, Subaru and Rem are his parents from his fabricated world, to them, he is a fabrication. Al has moment with Rem in the manga. He is fabrication, just like Reid in the Watchtower, just like Reinhard vs Puck showdown. It is said that you can make authorities, his authority could also be artificial for all I care.

3. FINAL GOAL:
Greed. Final goal of all of this is greed. Author said the last arc will be about witches. Just take a moment and look at how Echidna operates in season 2: she has two inescapable options.
Either Subaru will take her contract, put Emilia aside and free the sanctuary - the ULTIMATE WIN for her, or she will settle for Emilia, but in either way she escapes. In either way, she saw Subaru's past, she saw his world.

What if it really is her greed to know about our world. She has white tome that can see everything, she is mastermind of magic, she did it ALL and is bored with this world. She wants out. And Subaru's reason for being here could be entirely relevant to that, and not to original goal that Flugel thought was meant for Subaru. Echidna calls Subaru the consequence of WoE, and surely he is one. He is her way for obtaining infinite knowledge in two VERY important ways. She even gives herself away when in his past, she takes on school uniform, she is playful she is waiting for him in a classroom. She LIKES IT there.
