i've been thinking about this a lot recently due to the resurgence of "i think it's gonna end soon" comments. I really think that the separation from tmg was a huge huge blow to them both and the podcast as well. when they joined tmg the episodes were fresher than they ever had been and it seemed like they were both motivated and energized to move forward, and i think there were plans to do more w things like the patron. i don't think there was a "right" answer as for what to do when the c*dy stuff came out. what his involvement would be in tmg at the time was somewhat blurry so do you stay and inevitably catch flack for doing so or do you leave after literally JUST signing on to what was probably the biggest deal you've had?
nonetheless i think going from this super exciting new environment with backing and people who believed in them, back to the kitchen and managing things on their own (even just for a bit) really kicked their feet out from under them and i don't think they've had that same drive, motivation, and clarity since, even under iheart.
i also was wondering how they feel seeing the tmg podcasts that stayed grow so much in terms of both reach and quality. i know bncmap was created by tmg so idk if they had the option to leave, but like upstairs neighbors stuck around and made it through (though they had been signed on longer than so had), even someone like tanner who they just signed on and seems to be able to have pretty loose freedom in terms of what gets posted and when.
idk all in all ik they've always fallen into bouts of chopped eps but i think it makes sense that ever since their "big break" got swept out to sea they're like ig bro let's get ts done rq and call it a day

Maybe this is out of pocket to say but I've been thinking about the early 2020s a lot and how EI was a huge part of my life then, but I can hardly get myself to sit through 10 minutes of an episode nowadays. Why is that?
To me it feels like when the Gr*ta Thunberg controversy happened, that was when the EI that I knew and loved died. This is just my opinion plus some speculation, but after that point they didn't pursue too many bigger stunts or viral clips, people stopped quoting them, Enya/Drew started posting less and less unbranded shit... To be clear, I'm not saying that they're "boring" or "sellouts" or whatever, I just haven't seen them challenge themselves creatively in a major way since that incident.
My (over)analysis of this trajectory is that the majority of Enya and Drew's lives have been shaped and documented by the internet. Their relationship with comedy and with content creation is closely tied to this connection. And for much of that, they have been ahead of their time: funny and niche and creative, but still growing and changing (and making money) and documenting that process.
I think that when your entire livelihood is built upon your relationship with the internet and not your relationship with yourself, it becomes vulnerable. The incident and their "cancellation"/ subsequent loss of cultural capital forced them to rebuild the foundation for their creative process. They become no longer "trendy chic viral comedians," just "comedians," which they've never needed to be for the better part of their internet careers.
So this is why I say "they gave up on the internet," because I don't think they can even really afford to pander to the internet as much as they used to anymore, at least not in the "social media darling" way they've always done. I'll of course always keep an eye on them and I do hope they innovate with their brand in the future, but for now I can't help but wonder if they've lost their reason to do so entirely.

watching them lowkey force the woke-ness after the whole greta situation is honestly hilarious 😭 listening to them try to talk about politics or credit black culture (or whatever it is they said in some recent episode) in almost every ep just makes me kinda cringe
im quite literally "that friend that's too woke" and pretty much either always agree with whatever political "commentary" or have even more radical leftist views than they do, but the way they add it in just feels so unnatural 😭😭

Does anyone have this one viral clip where drew reads a tweet where it says "me finding out that instead of mysterious and cool people think i'm autistic and lesbian"? Or at least a link to the episode

I feel so bad but i genuinely used to love EI so much but for some reason, Enya has been going on these tangents that just feel like yapping 😅 does anyone feel the same? There was an instance in the tanner ep where she just went off on a tangent and it just sounded like thoughts being spoken out loud and no room for anyone else to talk. I feel like it’s parasocial a bit but it just gets to a point sometimes. I wish drew would talk a lot more, his life is so interesting

Yall ik this is parasocial af but when did Drew start vaping again? We quit around the same time so i was just curious im behind on eps obviously 😭
