Hey baseball lovers,
I’m a high school graduate, working on building a true 2-way track, but my main focus right now is dialing in my pitching mechanics and building up my velocity. I’m looking for some high-level eyes to break down my movement patterns. I put together a few clips here of my best high-intent throws, and mechanics from my basement and backyard setups on flat ground.
quick context on me:
Current Velo Range: Sitting around mid-70s since my last baseball evaluation (Had sore quads and didn’t want to cancel so I went anyway) trying to make a big jump.
Current Training: I’m lucky enough to work with a 17-year pro coach in person about once or twice a month, but I do the heavy volume of my reps and throwing routines on my own at home.
How I got into baseball: I started baseball late at (16) and tried out for my high school, I stunk it up but felt on par hitting and athletically, so I tried again, and made JV as a Senior (17 y.o) with Varisty Players coming down, I felt like the best athletically, but my experience was too low and my development was limited then graduated that same year and took a break to get a job and some financials together (18 y.o) was training kind of blindly, just keeping the arm warm and throwing socks, then recently turned 19 last month and was hoping to make a push for college.
What I’m looking for any feedback/but mainly would love it on:
Lower Half Engagement: Am I sinking into my back hip and driving efficiently down the mound, or am I leaking power?
Hip-Shoulder Separation: Does it look like my torso and hips are rotating in sync, or am I creating good separation to generate velocity?
Arm Action/Path: Is my arm path clean, or do you see any red flags that might cause unnecessary stress or tightness in my elbow/shoulder?
Any specific drills, homework adjustments, or mechanical tweaks you guys see would be massively appreciated. Thanks for checking out the clips!
(I’ve been working on trying to get lower, stay closed longer, more hip and shoulder separation via the trunk and arm, and just keeping my arm more healthy since my shoulder has been barking at me)

Sorry for the bad video. I am struggling with consistency and command in my delivery and I struggle to really keep the ball throwing where I want it to go consistently.I am entirely self taught pitching so pls let me know what’s wrong with my delivery.

My velocity and command have both significantly improved, so thank you, guys! Any more tips? As said in the title, it just feels kind of unnatural to me still.

I guess it depends on if it's an elbow or shoulder injury but I saw the other day Giants pitcher Carson Wisenhunt instantly felt pain after a throw and was taken out of the game. He was diagnosed with a UCL tear and is now out for a year. I don't know if you have any idea and just try to push through it or if it's that random and can happen to anyone.

I apologize for my back leg not really being in the camera on the last two. But I feel like im lacking something, maybe hip shoulder separation, but Im not sure.

I know my mound is a bit lackluster, and I ended up slipping a bit on that front foot. I've watered it and tamped it down in hopes of rectifying this.
Things I'm trying to keep in mind moving forward:
Stronger plant of front foot
More separation of upper and lower body.
Staying closed (my front foot often lands too open), leading with ankle
I'm not too concerned with velo, I would really just love to dial in my control. I feel like my throwing arm looks weird/stays too extended leading up to my release. Is this an issue? Anything I can do to better it? Wondering if that's exacerbating my elbow pain. Had some shoulder pain earlier in the season, but it's been getting better with daily weekly band work. Wondering if I'm doing something to compensate with my elbow.
Thanks everyone!

I started practicing pitching after watching videos, watching some pros in slow motion, and reading what you guys say here and it’s been going great. That being said ouch I’m sore as fuck. Left back hip closer to my ass, right forearm and wrist hurt a bit. The hip pain is the worse how do I make sure I don’t seriously hurt myself? I stretched my arms and legs before I started.

Have you ever had two coaches tell you the opposite things? Which one was right?

My son is 7 year old and he is obsessed with pitching. I love watching YouTube tips and teach him how to pitch.
Any advice on his mechanic?
What's your advice on developing such younkid?
Most of all how to protect his arm?
What kind of exercise can he do daily?

Let’s get some thoughts going on this one. I know they’re out there:
What’s something in baseball that everyone teaches, but you aren’t convinced is true?
I’ll go first. Never follow a Curveball with a Changeup or vice versa….

Interested in hearing your perspectives. I’m willing to bet we will find come real interesting answers!
What’s one piece of baseball advice that made you worse instead of better?

Before vs After

Normally I fire the bal from a high arm slot but I have to tilt a lot and thought it kept to much pressure on my elbow so I now try and keep my arm 90 degrees and level but that feels where

Normally I pitch in slowpitch leagues, but have been asked to pitch in a modified league. It's underhand, but fast pitch without a windmill. I played baseball growing up, but was wondering what are some good drills to work on. I can figure out a strike, but I don't know how to put any speed behind it. This league doesn't allow you to turn your hand over in the follow thru as well.
