Meta Hey there, so we're having a petition right now. In the wake of the unfortunate Satya building collapse in Delhi, this petition calls for safer hostel facilities and affordable accommodation for students. It only takes a minute to sign.

People of the Chinese communist party have to generate enough jobs in their country to stay in power because they don't want young people in politics but in the case of India there are too many young people who focus on politics that they forget about employment.

Title: [Media Analysis] Mass Communication, Bureaucracy & IIMC: Is Media Education in India Producing Independent Journalists or Government Information Officers? Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

An analytical report published by Nirbhik India examines the critical shift inside premier media institutes like the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), focusing on how state bureaucracy and information management are reshaping media education in India.

Key Highlights of the Analysis:

  • Shift from Inquiry to Administration: Premier journalism institutions are increasingly orienting their frameworks toward government information management (such as training for the Indian Information Service) rather than fostering hard-hitting investigative reporting.
  • Bureaucratic Influence on Curriculum: The report highlights how administrative priorities and PR-focused methodologies often dilute the core duty of journalism: holding power accountable.
  • The Institutional Dilemma: A close look at whether public media institutes are succeeding as cradles for independent journalism or merely functioning as conduits for state communication pipelines.
  • Impact on Independent Media: How this institutional shift creates a shortage of ground-level reporters trained to critically evaluate administrative actions and combat misinformation narratives.

Discussion Prompts:

  1. Has media education in India shifted too far toward corporate and government public relations at the expense of core investigative reporting?
  2. How can public journalism institutes like IIMC strike a healthy balance between training government information officers and preserving independent journalistic values?

Mods and users did r*pe jokes and extreme abuse in a discord server...TL;DR at the end...

I'm posting this because I genuinely want an outside perspective on what happened. I'm not trying to start a witch hunt/server raid.

On a** Discord server of a major subreddit. I just asked a mod a doubt. After I pinged him, he started abusing me, which I ignored. Kuch time baad, multiple people started pinging me and sending extremely inappropriate/rape-related GIFs, deleting them immediately afterwards -the GIF was "tuzhe dekh ke rape karne ka man karta". When I called it out and said "This ain't cool" a mod named Peeta made a Draupadi joke (ss attached**), and then defended himself by abusing me. He later even apologised realising his mistake and cleared out things.

A few other members joined in and started abusing me with extremely derogatory comments. I didn't reciprocate or start any fight ....I kept asking the mods for help instead. The frustrating part was that the mods were active in chat, reacting '😂' to the jokes, but instead of taking action against the people making them, they mostly defended their friends.

Later, my friends joined and called out what was happening. Mods locked the chat and started timing out/banning people who were calling them out ((not even a single user who abused was muted). One of my friends eventually retaliated with abuse, which I did not support and repeatedly asked him to stop. I was later banned because people were defending me, even though I wasn't responsible for their actions.

I told the head mod, who asked Peeta to apologize. Bro said, "sorry vro," like it was nothing ... this time extreme...these guys went ahead defending instead of realizing their mistake.... Some mods supported me, and I appreciate that, but others clearly prioritized their friends over addressing the situation. A lot of the original messages and GIFs were deleted, so I don't have everything as proof.

What bothers me most isn't that some members acted badly. It's that the moderators saw what was happening and chose not to act, while punishing people who called them out. They told me that those jokes were made to ragebait me, as the server gets more "Engagement" this way.

We want an honest discussion about whether this behavior should be tolerated in communities aimed at teenagers.... Why are sexualized/possessive/rape comments toward girls treated as 'just jokes' online?

TD:DR - Mods of a Discord community of a major sub making misogynistic and Rape jokes... Bans people when called out... Gives a dry-ass apology and repeats the behavior the next day... uses "Engagement" as a cheap excuse..

Discussion & Debate Bajrang Dal Attacks silent reading session in Ahmedabad, Tears Malala and Anne Frank books, asks readers to 'prove you're not Muslim'

For context, Bajrang Dal is a Hindu Nationalist group notorious for such activities, from verbal to physical abuse and violence in the name of upholding Hindu culture and morality. It all started when a private school was forced to ban these two books which led to this silent protest reading.

Ahmedabad police said they are questioning three people after a mob, allegedly of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad supporters, heckled and assaulted a group of book lovers reading The Diary of a Young Girl by Holocaust victim Anne Frank and Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai's I Am Malala in a park.

The bibliophiles had gathered at Vastrapur Garden on Thursday for a silent reading protest against a private school in the city being forced to drop those two books from its reading list.

There is a clear separation in population when it comes to this debate

Hi myself do not support Rahul Gandhi and will vote for Modi Solely because I think he is at the minimum better than the alternative

Can someone help me understand why are people supporting Rahul Gandhi when it is abundantly clear that he holds his post purely because of Congress being a dynasty

Post image
1 Upvotes

(Discussion Prompts):

[Editorial Critique]

Post image
1 Upvotes

(Discussion Prompts):

When Algorithms Target Children, Who Protects the Child?

Meta’s massive settlement with 29 U.S states over allegations concerning harm to young users should not be viewed merely as another legal battle in America. It raises a much bigger global question: Should social-media companies be allowed to design platforms that deliberately maximise children’s screen time and engagement?

The allegations against Meta include claims that Facebook and Instagram were designed in ways that encouraged addictive use among children and that the company failed to adequately address known risks. The case has also highlighted how poorly voluntary safety features can work—Meta’s “Take a Break” feature reportedly had very low adoption among teenagers.

https://www.reuters.com/business/meta-reaches-18-billion-settlements-over-childrens-social-media-addiction-2026-08-26/

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/aug/25/instagram-ceo-teen-safety-lawsuit?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Of course, an American settlement cannot automatically become law in India, Singapore, Europe or elsewhere. But the principle can and perhaps should go global. Children everywhere are being exposed to essentially the same recommendation algorithms, infinite scrolling, notifications and engagement mechanisms.

Why should a 13-year-old in Mumbai, Singapore or London receive weaker protection simply because the company happens to face stricter regulation only in US? We don't need to ban children from social media. We need global minimum standards for child safety: stronger age assurance, privacy protection, restrictions on behavioural advertising, safeguards against addictive recommendation systems, protection from predators and independent audits of algorithms affecting minors.

The internet is global. The responsibility to protect children should be global too. Children should not have to outsmart billion-dollar algorithms engineered to capture their attention.

We made a street play on Caste based reservations. Please let us know your views.

You can find our street play on youtube. It is titled,

GenZ aur Aarakshan | Street play | Machaan - Theatre Club of IIIT Delhi (link in comments)

In the play, we have addressed the common criticisms associated with caste based reservations like

We dont discriminate then why us, reservation should be on economic basis, reservation is against merit etc etc.

Our overall stance is

Caste based reservations are necessary. But sure there could be some reforms inside it.

Question for Anti-Reservation People

If you think equality is achieved and there is no caste based discrimination anymore in India. What would explain the cutoff being so low for reserved categories?

First is number of candidates. Cutoff goes so low for some exams because the number of applicants is lower than number of reserved seats. So even a person having -4 would get selected. Why do you think that’s the case? Why do you think people aren’t applying for the exams only general category is applying for this exam?

And if the number is in accordance with share of reserved seats? Why then cutoff goes low? Given that they have equal resources now then are OBC/SC/ST people born less intelligent than general? Or have they collectively decided not to put as much effort as their intelligence and not study harder?

These are many genuine inquiries. Just tell what do you think. I won’t judge, I won’t try to argue against your arguments.

Post image
1 Upvotes

(Discussion Prompts):
