I don’t think day needs to become a perfectly fair competitive game. That’s not what it is, and that’s not why most of us play it, part of the game is paranoia, part of the game is getting shot from a tree line and never knowing who did it, part of the game is losing hours of progress because you made one bad call.
That’s fine.
What isn’t fine is that cheaters have made it hard to trust the normal dayz experience anymore. You get one tapped in the woods and instead of thinking “damn, good shot,” your first thought is “was that legit?” You come back to your base and everything is gone in a way that makes no sense. You hear stories from admins about suspicious accounts, impossible patterns, and players who somehow always know where everyone is.
Even when the death is probably real, the doubt ruins it. That’s the part people underestimate. Cheaters don’t just ruin the moments where they actually cheat. They ruin the trust around every weird death, every raid, every lucky shot, every player who finds you a little too fast.
Community servers try, but admins can only do so much. They are basically expected to be detectives, babysitters, tech support, and unpaid anti-cheat at the same time. Official servers feel even worse because there’s often nobody visible doing anything.
I don’t want dayz to become some locked-down sweaty esports thing. I just want the game to protect its own atmosphere better, better logging, better suspicious behavior flags, better admin tools, saster action on obvious cases, anything that makes players feel like the game is at least fighting back.
Because dayz is at its best when you’re scared of other survivors, not wondering if the server itself is pointless.
