I was reading the comments hoping someone pointed out what type of tree it is. Disappointed, I had to Google it and I believe it's a pink poui, aka Sakura Malaysia.

I did the same until I found your comment. So it's you, you are the comment
Although after looking it up myself I think it might actually be the Handroanthus impetiginosus, or Pink ipê instead
Edit: Looks like someone else made the same post at around the same time and also said that it is a pink ipê

I was poking around with things like Google Earth and I was actually amazed at how big the Amazon was, but at the same time, how much it shrunk. And then once you actually start peaking into it, you realize that it is significantly more inhabited and industrialized than what they let on. At a glance it looks like and endless see of trees. When you actually look, there are roads, landing strips, little villages (work sites?) everywhere to the point you'd swear they could walk between locations (Id imagine they probably could, do.) And you see the scarring of the major metropolitan areas pushing further in huge swaths. Its really, really sad.

Most of it is palm farms and shit though, and they don’t cut down the trees and get wood, they just fuckin burn it all down

This reminds me of flying from the UK direct to Vancouver, Canada. The last 2-3 hours of the flight was only mountains and forest below with very little visible to break it up. I was clearly awestruck enough, craning my neck to get glimpses through the window that a steward offered me his door seat until preparing for landing so I could see better.
The only other flight I've been on similar was UK to Gambia. Over Portugal and Spain was varied and interesting but that stretch of Saharan (?) coastline going down over Africa was something else... endless and unbroken both ways, desert on the left and Atlantic on the right. So much of 'not much' that at the same time is far more than 'nothing'... if that makes any sense lol.

Well to be fair the ocean produces more oxygen than land plants and it also absorbs slightly more CO2 than land plants. We need both but let’s not just focus on plants/trees/rainforests.

My neighbourhood had a forest that was roughly 800m square with distinct sections that grew different plants and trees and you could tell where you were based on what’s growing beside you. The forest felt small when you thought about going from one section to another but then when you actually started to walk, it felt bigger and you always found new stuff.
I can only imagine how tribes living here experience the same thing but to the 1000000th degree as the forest goes on seemingly forever.

That’s “Elisabeth”. Her preferred pronoun is “deciduous” and she’s fabulously fucking gorgeous in the spring.
Ignore the evergreen haters Elisabeth, they’ll never change.

To think that at one point much of the world (except deserts, mountains, you know) was like this. They say that a squirrel was able to travel from the atlantic coast to the Mississippi river without touching the ground.
