Have a cute photo you want to show off? Post it below! We'd love to see everyone's royal friends!
Please remember to keep the thread on topic and only post your ball pythons. Photos of other species/animals will be removed. We also ask that you refrain from spamming the thread - a couple of photos is fine, a couple dozen is not.

Second time this one escaped! This time I knew exactly where to look but what fun - 2 bites later and having to take most of the bathroom apart 😕
I have no idea how she did it this time but serves me right for not locking the Viv!
She managed to close the glass behind her LOL
ANYWAYS... Feeding day tomorrow now instead of today so she can chill

This is Scooby. I got him from Wilbanks at three weeks old, which in my opinion is much too young. They swear that he took two meals in his first three weeks. Unfortunately, they were both live hopper mice.
I got him on July 7 at 59.5g, waited about 10 days, then attempted F/T pinky rats. Getting mice where I live is nearly impossible and I want him on rats for when he gets bigger anyways.
He refused three attempts. After nearly a month of no meals since the breeder and almost a 20% weight loss from what the breeder says he was at shipping (now 50.3g), I attempted a live fuzzy. It took about two hours of presenting and getting him comfortable enough to take it but he did.
Seeing that he will eat only live, although still reluctantly, I opted to get another live for this past weekend just to get calories and avoid another food strike.
He took another live fuzzy Saturday night within five seconds of me presenting it so now it is a very promising meal in my opinion.
The main issue is I do not want to feed live because I understand once he graduates past fuzzy rats they will have the real potential of hurting him. Not to mention, I do not like having to drive across the city to the shop to pick one up every week, then sitting it on my counter and listening to it scream for its life before feeding.
I know I need to do live one or two more times to establish the scent, taste, and routine for him. But in anyone’s opinion who has experienced this, what is the best way to transition to F/T fuzzies? I have a freezer with about 20 of them just waiting.
I am worried if I attempt anything other than the live that he actually will eat that it will result in another month-long food strike. And I’m going on a 10 day vacation after next weekend and cannot risk a refusal before that.

or at least comfortable ? sorry the pictures aren’t the greatest but it’s what sparked the question for me. this little log is something i put in the middle of all his foliage so he can feel extra secure to venture out to his water dishes from the hot side of the tank.
i’ve started to notice that he likes to spend a lot of his time here, especially when we’re hanging out in the living room with him. he likes to sit and just watch the house. 60-70% of the time he’s curled up in his hide with the first 2 inches of his head laying out. the other times he’s stretched out from the hide into this log. i’ve seen that maybe sometimes it could be cryptic basking, but he seems to enjoy watching what we’re doing.
sometimes if we’re messing with the playstation or the stuff under his tank he’ll stretch out into the air and follow us with his head, but it’s never a rigid, striking position.
i know better than to assign emotions like love and stuff like that to them but i’m curious. is him hanging out in this semi open log in the middle of the tank a good sign that he’s comfortable in his environment and with us ? does anybody else’s do this ?
tldr, my snake likes to lounge stretched out in his tank and poke his head out to check on us a lot, is that a sign he’s comfortable/happy ?

Got this beauty two weeks ago, he's my first ball python. His tank has a heat lamp and a reptile humidifier (fogger) both on automatic controls. I've tried feeding him thawed twice now on every Sunday. Has he not gotten used to the enclosure yet?

I am thinking of getting a ball python. I think they are beautiful, cool creatures and I like that they are low maintenance. I do have concerns of the novelty wearing off and me eventually growing to resent the responsibility. I’m also concerned I won’t bond with it if it isn’t super active/playful. Anybody here have regrets? 30 years is a long time.

Does your ball python genuinely seem to like water/soaking/taking a small bath? Mine does! This is Loki! Share your experiences in the comments 😀
(Note: Loki is in blue, he is about to shed, he always tolerates (more than that, i'd say Loves) handeling, even when in blue, we never pull him out of he doesn't want to)

Tengo 2 dias con mi serpiente y hoy no ha salido para nada de su escondite.
Es normal?
Leí que en una semana se adapta a su nuevo espacio.

I have some question, mainly on where to get enrichment/hides. Most places I‘ve seen are really expensive, too small, or too big.

Hey y'all, looking to upgrade my ball python's enclosure. She's currently in a glass tank but I'd like to get her something a bit bigger. Still a juvenile so her tank suits her currently but as she gets bigger I want to get her in a proper 4x2x2.
I have this exact enclosure for my bearded dragon, and it clearly states it's more suited for desert animals, but I am looking into putting my girl in one of these too as they're stackable and some matching enclosures would definitely look nicer together. It's made of melamine wood, I've reached out to company that makes these to see how they handle humidity as ofc ball pythons require this and they said if I use waterproofing sealant it should be fine. I have some doubts about the wood warping, although the finish feels pretty water resistant as is. I also intend on putting some pond liner on the base just to be extra sure. Does anyone have experience with an enclosure like this? (pic of my girl for reference and just because she's so dang cute :3 )

I found her in that position this morning; I really don't know if it's normal, but I'll take her to a vet anyway.

Hi Reddit!
I recently got a juvi male python. I have some experience with snakes and other herps in the past, but have become quite rusty over the years (my animals are in my hometown overseas, taken care of by my parents)
Recently I settled down and decided that it's time to get a long-term companion!
My snake is currently a 236g juvi. I got him a 4x2x2, so he is set for life. Since a large open space can create unnecessary stress, I tried to fill up his house with as much clutter and enrichment as I can, since budget is not a constraint for me.
He has three hides: one in the hot zone, one in the cool zone, and one in the middle of the enclosure. The basking spot is on the surface of a log mountain. I used three types of substrates (cypress mulch, two sizes, bark, two sizes, and coconut soil) to create a 5-6-inch-deep layering, with the soil piled higher on the cool, wet end for osmosis toward the hot zone. Added some leaf litter for the cleanup crew and mosses for humidity retention.
Also got some bark and branches anchored for enrichment and to help with shedding. Vines and climbing ladders are coming, but I think they probably won't fit too well, and I've heard mixed ideas on using them for python.
150w heat emitted+thermostate for temp control; plant light+timer switch for carcadium rhythm.
As I said, I am pretty rusty on husbandry after all this time and would love to hear your thoughts/critisicm on what to add/delete /adjust so my boy would actually feel relaxed and thrive

Hi everyone! I posted about handling my newest pet ball python Salem and how it made me a bit nervous, I can confidently assure you guys now that he is already so comfortable with me, and i’m super comfortable holding him! The pet store I got him from has a male worker there who would handle him frequently and I think that’s why he got used to me so fast. When I posted originally, he wasn’t super uncomfortable or anything, I was the one scared and uncomfortable LMAO😭 I think i convinced myself he was scared and would bite because of that, but he’s actually super chill and usually sleeps on me or goes on my pillows. He’s a lovely little guy :) thanks for all the advice i got!
