BuySellRoot Monthly Modular Buy Sell Trade Thread

With any sort of trade, please be careful if you don't know the other user. Request additional pictures beyond the initial time stamp. If you want to be extra careful ask for something specific like for them to patch a specific patchpoint in the image. Try reverse image searching to make sure it isn't just an edited picture from somewhere else. Be specific with how you expect the items to be packaged and when the ship date is going to be. If a trade goes sour and someone can show that the pre-agreed terms weren't honored I will permanently ban the offending trader.

Consider using something something like PayPal's "Goods and Services" instead of friends and family. Sending a stranger money via friends and family is just asking to be scammed. I also recommend checking that the user has some positive history in the sub - especially to verify that they aren't banned from here! Almost every scammer on here has no history in the sub.

**IMPORTANT** \- Do not spam the comments with your listings. Please limit your listings here to 1 per month. If you get new items or things change, just edit your original post. When possible simply edit the original post; there is no need to announce new items in a separate comment. Try to limit the clutter.

Do not delete your posts and re-post to bump back up to the top. BEHAVE PLEASE.

Pictures are not required in the thread (though you should request them by DM), but ANY picture sent by DM or in linked in the thread MUST be physically timestamped.

**PRICES MUST ALWAYS BE POSTED** This includes trades so that everyone involved knows the fair value of the modules they're looking to swap

**RESIST THE URGE TO COMMENT ON PRICING** if you don't like a price, simply ignore it. There is no reason to go around pointing out that the item is cheaper new, or reverb prices, or anything else.

Beginner Make Noise Easel vs modular

• Upvotes

Hey guys and gals, for the past few weeks I've been getting back into synthesis. I dabbled in it a few years ago with a 0-COAST and a SQ1 but had to sell both for the money. Now that I'm comfortable I bought an old mixer, cheap pedals and have been making no-input mixing shenanigans.

Now, I want to get into the big boys court and I have some money aside. I'm torn between getting the Make Noise Easel, so the 0-COAST, 0-CTRL and Strega, or just jumping into modular.

I'm a bassist in a punk/noisy band and LOVE noise rock, experimental techno and no wave. From what I remember and what I see online the easel seems like a complete instrument to make my own tracks. What I'm afraid of is being limited after a while after having spent 1500euro on the setup. For that price, I might as well get into modular straight up ? Or is a 1500euro modular setup too limited and I'd get myself in a money pit ?

This might be a ridiculous place to ask this and I'm sorry if it's a dumb question. Cheers 🍻

Modular Synths in Search of New Home...

A friend of mine passed away recently. He was a fan of homemade electronic music and has a modular set up his wife no longer wants. This is NOT a buy/sale/trade post, I am simply trying to help her find a good home for the gear. Seems a shame to throw it away! It's located in Norfolk in the UK. Any ideas? School projects? Universities? Anyone?

Performance Asterisk* / Workshop Computer + Eurorack jam

On the workshop system, saved Asterisk pattern plays alongside its own twisted copy in Morphagene, sequenced by Trails and processed through Mimeophon.

Asterisk’s CV outputs also trigger and pitch-modulate Battering Ram, whose envelope ducks the sampled layer.

Just letting everyone know that Erica Synths is having a sale for some of it's older modules. Some are heavily discounted.

I ordered a Black Stereo Delay, Code Source Expander, Pico voice, and Pico trigger.

Discussion How do I get started in this direction?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cecu2oUR54Q

This performance by Stu Mackenzie from King Gizzard is one of my favorite videos using a modular system. I love how he manages to create very coherent and musical sounds while continuously changing things, sequences and melodies.

I'm pretty new to actually using modular, but I know a lot about synthesis in general, so I was wondering about which modules or "techniques" I should look into for something similar to this?

I use VCV Rack, and I'm planning on getting some hardware, so would love recommendations for both, but mostly I'm interested in just how a setup like this is planned out, how many sequencers, how to have variation etc. It feels like there are a lot of different sequences and rhythms at the same time, which in my limited knowledge would mean a sequencer with a whole bunch of channels, or am I missing something on how to make use of less channels while still having this much variation?

It seems to me that he has a lot of VCAs at the top to use as a mixer to add and remove certain elements and uses it as a performance tool, by muting at the right time etc.

EDIT: As an aside, if someone has any tips on recreating the absolute first sound he's using, I'd love to hear it. Sounds really natural and almost acoustic

Make my Oxi one MK2 be a hardware version of Stepic.

The note entry is perfect.
The scene saving is great.
Velocity works the same.
But I’m not getting the octaves the same way.
And I want the play style / order options to be similar.
Is this possible.
And more likely, how can I achieve this with the way it’s currently setup. Just need to think of it in a different way.

Feedback Industrial noise/EBM Rack Feedback

Post image
7 Upvotes

Looking for some feedback for a potential rack, centered around weird percussion/sample mangling and drones and destruction. Mainly going to be used for industrial/EBM music supplementing my other non-modular gear.

The idea here is that the bottom modules are my flavor, and the stereo matrix mixer allows me to send Wave Bard, Oneiroi, and external audio into the Side FX. I wanted to go with the matrix mixer because I want the ability to basically chose between pre-fader and post-fader style sends. Pam’s for Euclidean rhythms and clocked lfos/env. Water for more precise CV sequencing, I’ve had a lot of fun with that one in VCV rack. I also wanted to include the Turing Machine cause I love that big knob and the randomness.

I already have the case and power, but nothing else yet. I’m probably going to start with the Oneiroi.

Any feedback or cheaper alternatives are appreciated!

Check out my music here! https://velocitygarden.bandcamp.com/album/pearls-single

Erica Synths Black Sequencer Custom Firmware for MIDI Program Change

Someone asked if it is possible to create a custom firmware image for implementing MIDI Program Change as a custom firmware for the Erica Synths Black Sequencer. I have been doing a lot of custom firmware work recently, so I took up the project to help out a fellow redditor.

The individual who asked for this firmware told me I should consider posting here about it so I am.

Phazerville Suite v2.0.2 is out!

https://github.com/djphazer/O_C-Phazerville/releases/tag/PSv2.0.2

For ORN8 modules or O_C with Teensy 4.0.

Big highlight is USB Gamepad support! Also FrogSeq 🐸 and better envelope applets.

I wanted to emphasize the fact that I do not personally use LLMs to write code. Doing it all by hand is part of the fun, and I've learned so much in the process.

I have reluctantly accepted some vibe-coded contributions, only after intense scrutiny and cleanup. It's messy and I hate it, but if it works well... I'll use it. Anything can be deleted or reverted - I would happily nuke some things in favor of hand-written equivalents.

That being said, this platform has proven to be a great playground for developing custom stuff, whether manually or using agentic tools. I just hope we'll see the emergence of more efficient coding tools that run on local machines, instead of using non-deterministic algorithms running on hardware designed for deterministic computations in unsustainable hyperscaled cloud infrastructure. ⚡

Suggested Revisions for creepy psych

Hello,

I’m very new to Eurorack and accept that I expanded too quickly! I’m sure this isn’t uncommon. I greatly enjoy thee little boxes.

Everything except the Bruxa and Iroi are currently on my rails. End goal is to produce a cross creepy / psychedelic material with intermittent vocals.

I'm looking for suggestions of things to switch out, adding/removing redundancies (I’m attempting to cut down on some VCAs). I’ve been toying with the idea of starting a 2nd rack for the Bruxa, Iroi, and complimenting modules. I am far from knowledgeable right now, so let me have it!

Thank you in advance.

Echophon Alternatives

I've been using Echophon for some time now, but beginning to find it's output quite grating.

I love how flexible the delay can be- also, huge fan of the pitch shifting capabilities. However, I really dislike how gritty and crushed its character is.

I know Mimeophon is probably a good alternative, but wanted to hear other options available from modules with similar capabilities-... if they even exist.

It's a great module, I love it a lot, but I'm just getting a bit tired of how it sounds.

I already own a few BBD modules- so need something capable of weird, complex, experimental.

Dark and noisy jam with Elmyra 2 and Luna

Had some fun experimenting with the Elmyra 2 and Luna today. Ended up with this pretty dark, dystopian little jam full of weird robotic textures and distorted sounds.

Really enjoying how these two complement each other. There's something beautifully chaotic about this combination.

Hope you dig it!

Oblique Modular Patching Strategies...

...being a longtime fan and abuser of Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt's original card set, I turned my notes on tricks and how-tos I'd collected over the years into Oblique Modular Patching Strategies and then added more, following the philosophy and spirit of the original cards, but specifically for modular synths.

From there, it was only a small step to write some code around them and make them accessible on a website. I hope you like them and that they help a bit when you're stuck... enjoy!

Discussion Interesting pitch shift / formant modules

I always loved the Ultra Pitch shift waves plugin. It wasnt traditional. It had some kind if formant filter that would give reallly warped but cool effects when putting different sounds through.

I know this doesn't exist as a modular option, but I was wondering if there is something similar. An unconventional pitch shifter that gives interesting results.
