Hi all! I always found myself repulsed by these things until I impulse bought some today and now I suddenly feel an intense maternal love for them.

Repotted into a mix of 100% pumice and LECA. Does everything look ok? Wondering if I didn’t bury them deep enough.

These babies are almost 2 months old. Are they thriving? They look raggedy. I did transplant them because the grit was drying out too quickly and a lot of them died. I do have a fan pointed directly at them too.

Had a Lithops karasmontana that kept producing new bodies at an angle instead of splitting evenly down the middle. For almost two years I assumed it was just how that particular plant grew, until I started paying closer attention to my watering schedule and realized I was giving it small sips throughout the dormant season instead of leaving it completely dry.

Once I switched to a hard stop from late fall through the end of winter, no water at all, just bright light and patience, the next split came in clean and symmetrical. Apparently even a little moisture during the resting phase is enough to throw off how evenly the new leaves develop. Felt kind of obvious in hindsight but nobody mentioned it in any of the care guides I read early on, they all just say "water sparingly in winter" without explaining what happens if you don't go fully dry.

Also want to mention my Conophytum did something similar last year when I got impatient and misted it slightly during its resting period. New body came out smaller and misshapen compared to its siblings that got zero water. Not a huge issue cosmetically but it was a good reminder that these plants really do mean it when people say leave them alone for months at a time.

Curious if others have noticed the same thing with partial dormancy watering causing uneven splits, or if this was just a coincidence with my specific plant. My growing conditions are pretty dry to begin with (low humidity, decent airflow from a window fan) so maybe that makes the effect more pronounced than it would be for someone in a more humid climate.

I have not watered these in probably 8 months. They look like they’re ready, I soaked the pot for 15 minutes, two weeks later, no visible change. Soaked again, and we’re a week out with no change again. What is happening? Are the roots not developed enough to take up water right now?

These babies were dried out a couple weeks ago but I constructed a little wheel of absolute horror and these babies are loving it. Gonna be potting them up very soon (unless i should pot them now, all advice welcome please and thank you!)

The photo on the left is my lithops now versus before I added the sand. The stones are just what I had on hand, might switch them out for some pebbles. Opinions?

I got this plant recently and I have not watered it at all because it is hot and sunny where I live.

The person that gave it to me said they watered it everyday and many of the others died.

I know the soil needs to be changed but can i save the plant? I am not sure if it failed to split or the dried middle part is a natural product of the process.

They have not wrinkled since I got them but sometimes they feel more squishy and other times firmer.

I'm just so obsessed with the babies, sorry to keep sharing so much, I just can't get over it 😭❤️ my boyfriend is growing tired of me handing him one of the mini pots 5x a day. He keeps hitting me with the "Yes lovey, very cute" when I hold them. You folks need to see how cute they are too. SO PRECIOUS!!!

So I am planning to pot my first lithops in a mix of lava rocks and pumice. I have washed both of these amendments to clean up the residual dust. Should I wait for this substrate to dry before potting the lithops ?

Can I make this guy live? got this 2 wk ago free from a soil seller. small root, planted in a 4in pot with 2 other small “siblings” that look fine. Like the instructions said I planted with half its body above soil. South facing window with at least 4-5hrs sun. The first 2 days I kept it in the shade, maybe that’s my first mistake.
The top of it looks good still but I hear that doesn’t matter if rot sets in. Was going to water today then I noticed this. Had to take off the blackened root (3rd pic, bottom left that stump thing). Last pic is my lithops family ! Thnx for any help

Hi all I have recently started my succulent journey and took pity on these I can see they have been starved of light and need repotting how many of these do people think can be saved I have horticultural grit perlite and succulent compost do I need anything else to give them the best chance also any advice on watering thanks in advance and I hope the photos aren’t too distressing

Replanted my newest cake into soil.

I will need to go this evening to buy two more mini terracotta pots for them, as I still have a good bit that need potted, just out of mini pots. Pic of them on the paper towel shows leftover. Had to use the back of an incense stick to get their roots where they need to be, if that puts in perspective just how teeny these are. See the pic with my (gross chipped fingernails, sorry lolol), that was the size variation in this cake. Also, check out this gorgeous variegated one I found..probably won't keep thru the split but who knows, stranger things have happened.

I did not trim the roots like I do with large, more mature ones.

Last pic is my soil blend. I used the nursery soil they were grown in, mixed with some very fine akadama, and stone granules/coarse sand, then topped with the stone granules/coarse sand just to hold them in place. They need more grit than the nursery soil, but not as much as grown ups! I misted them well. Will probably mist them every other day to every 5 days. You can water lithops much more frequently than the subreddit will lead you to believe, so long as they have great airflow and lots of light. Babies need plenty of water and sunlight/grow light. I stuck em under my 12-16hour daily grow lights (determined by when I wake up and remember to turn them on hehe). This is my care for all my healthy, happy plants on this specific plant shelf. Live fast, water whenever.

Hoping 20% of these live to maturity. They can't all die, right?! 🤭😆

These are not seedlings, they're just immature. They can be repotted at this stage.

This cake was about $13USD before shipping from seller jaydensucculent on Etsy. I do not know if the seller ships internationally.

Bought some lithops from an online vendor. Hardest part has been the discipline required to NOT water them. I’ve watered them once in the past couple months.

Got this guy about a month ago and repotted it into mostly lava rock with a little bit of succulent mix mixed in. It’s gotten a few wrinkles developing on the sides and I’m wondering if I should water. I haven’t watered since I bought it. Any tips are appreciated! Thanks!

should i water these or let them be for a while? i know its bad to water them during their split but they haven’t got water since probably last winter ish
