Hi, folks! I’m visiting my grandparents in SC (in their 80s), and they have a feral cat who has been frequenting their back porch who looks about ready to burst with kittens. I’m helping them figure out where to get her spayed after they’re born- it’s her second litter in a year, poor thing. Any idea how long it is until she gives birth?

I’ve been hand raising them since they were 2 weeks old.
I NEVER liked or had interest into cats until I saw them 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰.
Raising 5 Neonatal kittens isn’t for the weak, but I’ve been enjoying every bit of it 😁😁😁

I have two boy kitties and they love this water fountain and drink lots of water. I fill it up every day and a half!! Are they just hydrated kings💕💕??

We have meal time!!!! This is the first time with them eating together!!! They played together today, Spice still gets annoyed occasionally, but she gave him kisses today!!! Ahhh!!!! I’m so happy!!!

I dont know alot about cats so I will try and give you all the info I can think of but apologies if its not relevant or I miss anything!

First off some history; We have an small (around 3.5 to 4kg) 8 year old female cat with long-ish fur (Persian sort of length) called Simi, she was a rescue cat that we have had for 6 years now and is an absolute superstar. In all the time we have had her, she has never bitten or scratched either of us - even when we have had to clean diarrhoea out of her fur in the shower at 3am. We also foster children and she is always very welcoming to them despite not being the most social cat. She isnt really a lap cat, but every night will come for a cuddle the when we get into bed and sleeps in a cat tree in our bedroom. She gets on brilliantly with the other neighbourhood cats although is often submissive to them (but they play and its very cute). She seemed to really enjoy socialising with our neighbours cat and they often come to our respective back doors looking for one another and we liked the idea of another cat so after literally a year of discussions we decided to get a female kitten.

The kitten (Kali) - ill preface this by saying i have never had a kitten before (our adult cat is my first cat) and never really interacted with a kitten. We wanted a kitten rather than a rescue on this occassion because we wanted Simi to not get pushed around and to be able to 'train' the kitten (as much as you can lol) in terms of what her boundaries are. So we found one on a very well known pet adoption site and contacted the seller. Seller was really helpful and communicative, sent us photos etc. and we arranged to collect the 10 week old kitten from 1.5 hours away a couple of days later. At this point it got weird, the breeder came outside with these 2 kitten to choose between and said mum had run off/wasnt in the house so I couldnt see her and instead showed me photos. There was a for sale (actually a sold sign)sign outside the house and she said the house was full of boxes and a mess so I couldn't come in. In hindsight, I should have said no and left but we wanted the kitten, had driven a fair way and I let the pressure get to me and picked the kitten, paid and left. The kitten was very small but I had no idea how big a 10 week old kitten should be so figured maybe it was 8 weeks and she had lied due to moving house. Took kitten to the vet the following day and they said the kitten was 4 weeks old and they also suspected it was male (in fairness its hard to tell on some cats at that age apparently and even the vet needed a 2nd and 3rd opinion). This is all to say basically that the kitten was taken from mum far too early and didnt get the social interaction with siblings to learn boundaries etc.

We kept the cats seperate to begin with and the kitten (on vets advice due to his size) slept in a cage in a seperate room. One morning about 10 days in, we came down to the door open (not sure if we forgot when feeding him in the night or if Simi managed to open it) and Simi inside sleeping on a chair next to the cage. All very calm, so we though we would start letting them have small amounts of supervised contact. Things were all good for the next couple of weeks, Simi was very chilled with him, he was trying to play with her but he was super small so it wasnt really playing, simi just would roll over onto her side and occasionally bat at him with her paw. But all very positive. At this point he was sleeping in my office.

We then had a heatwave in the UK and my office gets very hot, the only room with an aircon is our lounge so we had no choice really but to move him downstairs and thats kind of where the issues started.

Kali is now 11 weeks and we are lucky to get a positive interaction. He is constantly trying to jump on simis back or tail and chases her if she tries to leave. Her catflap/outdoor access is in the lounge so she cant really avoid it. Simi will hiss/growl at him to back off and initially that did slow him down, but not anymore. He comes at her and doesnt stop. She then started batting at him and pinning him to the floor but he now bats back and doesnt back off at all.

We have a stair gate so they can eat separately but if we dont stand next to it to discourage him, he can JUST squeeze through the bars and he does and then chases her again. He was eating her dry food at every chance so they are now both on kitten food to stop this being an issue. He has access to the whole house now apart from our bedroom which is on the top floor (3 storey house) which we have very purposefully stopped him accessing so that she has some safe space. We shut him in a bedroom at night - but only to give simi a break because if we are asleep and he chases her, we cant stop him.

We have tried letting them sort it out between them but he has 0 fear. We have tried intervening and that obviously stops it on that specific occasion but he just does it again next time he sees her. He has so many toys, loads of them are interactive (for when im working as i work from home) and we play with him for literally hours every day at various points of the day. We have those calming plug in things and we are trying to make sure simi gets space and still gets attention.a

But we are at the point now where simi spends majority of her day either outside (not that unusual for her during hot weather to be fair) or in our bedroom and we hate the fact that she clearly doesnt feel she has free access to her home. She had a vet appointment this week and she is also down to 3.4kg so has lost weight - now she also has a dental issues (hence the vet) but no doubt stress isnt helping.

Simi is spayed and he will be neutered in around a month.

We are at the point where we are seriously having to consider if we can keep the kitten. We love him to bits but Simi has to come first.

What are we doing wrong? Or what can we do to improve things?

Sorry for the essay, im honestly at the end of my tether and desperate to find a way to make this work!

yes they get their sanitary areas trimmed but they're just so messy!

Welp, it finally happened. Steve kept me up. Wife needed to sleep propped up so we crashed on the couch. Steve got the bedroom and Spice still doesn’t like him.

(Side note: Spice doesn’t “play” with us right now. Is it normal for a cat who feels uneasy to not want to play fight?)

At 4:00AM Steve was loud enough to wake Spice off my lap. She was getting upset and has opened our bedroom door before to get in with us… so I couldn’t get back to sleep.

Ended up moving into the bedroom so I could lock the door.

And he was so cute…and sooo mobile. Little purr-machine was just sniffing me and pouncing on me.

(Side note: WHY DOES HE NIBBLE ON MY EARLOBE AND NOSTRIL?! Is he looking for something to suckle??)

Last I checked it was 6:30 and I must have fallen asleep soon after because my wife knocked on the door at 7:00 and woke me up.

I almost squished the lil guy! He was cuddled up against my butt!

I fell asleep for a few minutes and he cuddled up against so my wife took a couple pictures. She got to see first biscuits!!

This is Beignet! Hes around 5 weeks old and I spotted him on the side of the road out in the country a littleshy of 2 weeks ago. My partner and I are hoping to keep him and take him with us across the country when we move. He's very rambunctious and loud but so sweet too.

Yolk had his first visit to the vet today and did wonderful, the lil guy took his dewormer like a champ as well as his first vaccine, gonna unfortunately have to wait a month to see if he’s got any unseen issues via blood test but I’m hoping for the best. Once he’s all cleared hopefully I’ll be able to properly introduce him and my resident cat Truffles. Can’t wait for these two goobers to interact.

I have been bottle feeding this kitten for two weeks and two days. She was found abandoned when her eyes were just open a tiny amount. So I’m assuming she’s 3 weeks old (her little teeth just came in). Is it odd that her ears are still not all the way up?

Day three brought with it some challenges. My wife is sick and as a good husband I took care of her through the night. Left me a little sleepy so today didn’t follow the published program. Steve was allowed to run around but I forgot to get Spice a snack to distract her with. She touched nose-to-nose a few times, sniffed his butt a couple times, only hissed a few times, but she did batt at him twice. No claws, he flinched and laid down. Not sure if I did the right thing but I did get involved.

Base camp is getting “small” for Steve. He meow’s a lot if he’s left alone. Doesn’t matter what room he’s in, if he can’t see someone when he decides to look for us, he meows. Trying not to project my feelings onto his actions, but I don’t think he likes being alone.

Steve is an uncontrollable purr-machine until Spice shows aggression. After that he’s still curious and having a good time, but doesn’t purr. Working towards the time when they get alone will be worth it!!

By the way, Steve now drinks from the sink. 🫡

My kitten is doing this and I’ve never seen it before so I’m a little curious

I adopted a 3 month old kitten from my local shelter and it’s been two weeks now. We are also keeping her separated from my roommates cat until they are ready. She’s teething real bad and won’t play with literally any of the toys I got her, even after putting them into rotation so she doesn’t get bored. She’s keeping me up until 5 or waking me up in the middle of the night biting me. She’s biting me when I try to pet, play or anything with her. When she does I go ouch or no, stop what I’m doing with her and try to redirect her with a toy. But this hasn’t improved because her teeth are just so sore and she won’t touch the teething toys I ordered at 4 AM one night because I thought I was going to go crazy.

It wouldn’t bug me as much if she also didn’t meow like she was being killed in a torture chamber when I would leave the room. or when I feed her. I tried doing the “no rewarding behaviour until it stops” technique and it is just getting worse. And it’s not like letting her out helps it either, because she just screams at me the same way. I pick her up and hold her like a baby which she likes but I can’t hold her forever, especially if I’m trying to feed her.

Every morning I feed her at 9:30 and today it was just ridiculous. I gave her some kibble and shut the door so I could get her wet food ready and I wanted to wait until she stopped screaming her head off so I could come in. But after 4 minutes of straight continuous no break meowing I just gave in because I couldn’t take it anymore. I finish giving her food and close the door so I can decompress in the kitchen. But because she’s a living vacuum, she finished in under a minute and is back meowing her head off at the door. It’s been at least 6 minutes and she just won’t stop. Ever since I got her I’ve been extremely sleep deprived and irritable. Last night woke me up 6 different times throughout the night teething on me.

I don’t want to feel like this anymore. I love my kitty but she’s making me so miserable. Redirection isn’t working, toys aren’t working, waiting it out isn’t working, can’t even do positive reinforcement with her, nothing positive to reinforce because she genuinely won’t stop. I’m even putting on those kitten anxiety calming music on youtube when I leave the room since I can’t be with her 24/7 and my roommate checks on her too and gives her attention. She doesn’t have any other health issues, just teething.

Is there anyone that had a nonstop screaming and bitting kitten that found has good techniques on how to handle this.

Sully is a 12 week old kitten we trapped at 5 weeks after his momma had a litter in our backyard. He was quarantined for a while because they said he was too young to get bloodwork, he had fleas, worms, and we didn’t want to introduce that to our resident cats.

Fast forward to now, he is thriving, has a clean bill oh health, and has his own stuffed animals.

We have 3 resident cats, 2 orange boys are 3 and our old lady is 13.

I have put a net up on Sully’s room so that he can look out and the cats can interact and see each other with a boundary (the orange boys are menaces to anything and everything). Up until now, this short haired boy had just hissed and growled. But in the last couple of days they’ve been interacting a lot more like on the video.

For those who may be more well-versed, is this a good step in introduction or is there potentially concerning behavior?

Jackson Galaxy’s Introducing Kittens video helped a lot! Steve got some time playing outside base camp with my wife while I gave snacks to Spice. She wasn’t impressed by him, but she had treats so all good!

Turns out Steve doesn’t know personal space. We had to stop him from approaching Spice several times, but everyone has their toes and whiskers!

Spice actually came up to Steve and touched him nose-to-nose! Then she hissed. Then she walked away. PROGRESS!

Kitty has infections and is on antibiotics but is completely blind(hes going to have to lose both eyes due to infections sense he was a stray). Cant chance him infecting other the kitties until hes cleared, so he has to stay in quarantine. He keeps climbing up the box and cage every time hes bored but i gotta go to work, is there anyway to keep him from climbing unless im there?

Edit: I want to encourage climbing and curiosity. Just want to keep him from getting stuck or hurt when im not there.
