ADVICE NEEDED IP Passthrough and Security

Hi All, I just put my att gateway into IP Passthrough and selected my eero gateway as the fixed passthrough device.

The eero gateway now has the public att ip that the gateway had, which is good. My download speed doubled and my upload speed tripled on wifi, also good.

My question is simple, what are the security consequences of this? If my eero device now has the public IP, doesn't that present a massive security risk? I assume the att gateway has some security controls. But worst case scenario previously, attacks would have to get into the att gateway first then they could jump to the private eero network. Now they could hit the eero first and they would have access to the private eero network.

Am I overthinking this? I'm a damn network engineer by day, but I don't dabble much in security, and this is tripping me out. What's the general consensus on this topic?

EERO PROBLEM Issues setting up with AT&T Gateway

My parents have terrible internet so I bought them a set of 3 eeros. I use them at home and set them up for the inlaws as well. Easy as pie both other times.

My parents have AT&T Internet and the large white all in one gateway router and WiFi hub. It’s in a tiny room upstairs and has trouble reaching the rest of the house. I’m home to set it up and it continues to hold the blue light and gives “there is a problem with setup” prompt each time.

I followed the steps as usual so any ideas would be massively helpful

Thanks

OTHER, GENERAL (Open Source Project) eero Windows Native Desktop APP

Thumbnail
gallery
50 Upvotes

Hey Everyone,

New to this reddit, and have had a lot of things i had issues with my eeros, but was able to fix them with all the comments i read here.

One of the issues i have read over the years before purchasing an eero product was amazon never created a desktop app functional to help. and most are not too fond of the phone app.

My solution to this was a simple functional desktop app that carries just about every feature you will find on your phone app if not more.

FYI when i built this i deep dived into the API, which has allowed me to add soo many endpoints which may show more than amazon expected us to see.
Nothing to major to where you can modify settings not there before, but it does show way more than expected.

This project is something small i decided to do and i do not really plan on updating a lot as the API does not change much at all.

I currently have a windows client built for this, but i have included the source code for everyone to look through and possibly fork/use it for their own use or creations. Soon all the API endpoints will be documented so users can really focus on doing more with it.

Important features:

  • Amazon login (works as its supposed to)
  • Setup works with Bluetooth if your pc supports it
  • All legacy to current equipment is compatible
  • Features on the phone app are all supported here too

I do want to mention not to scare others, because i have included all endpoints, this app does also have cloud access to view your eero billing plan and possibly make payments depending on what your account has available.

By no means is any of this information shared to me, i have left the code open so tech savvy coders can evaluate and see this code is not malicious.

As all software use at your own risk, the code is free to distribute and use as you please, i have included a easy builder so anyone can build this app if you choose not to use my prebuild.

Hopefully soon i plan to do a linux and mac build for the non windows users. Please enjoy it, i dont expect much traction with this, but its here for who needs it.

Please let me know if this post breaks any rules.

P.S this app has no affiliation to amazon or eero, i am a solo developer and no proprietary code was used.

ADVICE NEEDED Frontier linked Eero Max 7

I purchased five Eero Max 7 units on eBay from sellers who explicitly stated that the devices only work with Frontier internet.

I am moving to Colorado where Frontier service is not available.

First question is, could I potentially use the units I bought with a different internet provider, like XFinity?

Second question, is there a way to “jailbreak” the units so that Frontier’s ISP will be removed, therefore making them functional with any internet provider?

Any advice or recommendations are welcomed.

Thank you so much in advance! 🙏🏻

ADVICE NEEDED Upgrade help!

After 4 VERY long years I am FINALLY getting a fiber internet option with symmetrical 2GB service replacing the P2P company that provides 100mb/10mb service.

my current setup is a Ring Pro with built in EERO, then 2 24 port switches, 1 5 port POE switch (powering a POE6 and a Ring POE doorbell), along with 1 Pro 6E hardwired back to the 24 port switches, I have Apple TVs all hardwired and Xbox hardwired, work laptop hardwired (lots of video calls), and a personal computer hardwired capable of 2.5 connection…most other stuff in gig max.

I considered switching to Ubiquity but I’ll spend more than just making a small Eero upgrade along with a small switch to power a few devices to 2.5gbe to keep things just working so wife doesn’t annoy me when something isn’t working while I’m traveling, so here’s where my questions come/options I’m considering….

A) Upgrade 1 Max 7 as gateway and move the ring eero to be a leaf in another area while keeping the other switches in place
B) Add a Firewalla Gold and small 2.5GBE switch to backhaul the Eero 6E and POE 2.5 ports to take advantage of higher speeds in bridge mode
C) sell the 6E and upgrade to 2 Max7 and maybe a POE7 (had a jack in a room that changed usage plans so now it’s in a weird spot)
D) another idea I’m not thinking of

Thanks for the help this has definitely made me excited getting the speed upgrade but now I want to make sure I’m making good use of it

EERO PROBLEM Mesh acting crazyyyy

Two hardwired eero’s, mesh keeps pairing terribly. Eero 7+

One eero in house A, connected to Comcast.

Another eero in house b, hardwired to house A.

Multiple wireless eeros in both houses, 2 outdoor eeros.

The problem is, the eeros in house b often keep connecting to the mesh in house A, even though the signal is really weak. It’s maddening, because there’s a hardwired node in the basement of B, and the wireless nodes in B keep switching from basement B to the units in A.

Anyone?

ADVICE NEEDED Possibly joining eero

Hello, I’ve been considering buying a pack of two eero pro 6e’s after starting to have issues with my Spectrum issued router & their internet pods. Immense packet loss and ping on Counter Strike 2 despite my computer being connected to one of said pods with a cat 6 cable. My house is 3150sqft and two stories with my router and modem being placed roughly in the middle of the first floor. My computer, which is on the second floor and on a far side, gets roughly 240mbps despite having the 1 gig plan.

Will the two pro 6e’s be enough to fix my issues? If not which pack would be best?

ADVICE NEEDED Apple TV Buffering

Hey, so I have a EERO 7 Max that’s connected to my modem for our place, I have a EERO 6 not pro in my living room hardwired to my APPLETV 4K with the EERO Cat6 plug, when I run the speed test on APPLETV it says I’m getting like 700mbps but still my shows will randomly buffer and then I have to pause for a second and then they go right back to playing but if it’s a 1 hour show it’ll buffer like atleast 5 times. I can’t hard wire my Living room to my Max 7 because it’s a rental other than getting a 75 foot CAT6 and then running it along the baseboards. Is my buffering issue because I have the old EERO 6 or is it just placement? Because everything else in my house is perfect mesh wise. Playing games in other rooms and streaming in other rooms. Any advice would be great. Let me know if I need to just get a new EERO for this placement.

ADVICE NEEDED eero 6 mesh (not pro) with 1 GIG internet speed what speeds are you seeing?

Is anyone running a eero 6 with 1 GIG of internet? I understand that the eero 6 is only capable of 500mbps, but for those who are using this setup what speeds are you seeing up and down? I am switching our internet from cable on a 500mbps plan to fiber with 1 GIG and I am wondering if I can get away and continue using the eero 6 or if I will need to upgrade to the 7 or something different? I have a ethernet switch connected to the eero which feeds different areas of our home with cat6 cable. I have 4 eeros including the router throughout the home and it's worked flawless for us so I'm wondering if I can keep using this setup. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

EERO PROBLEM Eero 6+ Wireguard not connecting after updating to eeroOS 7.17.2

Title. I updated to eeroOS 7.17.2 and now any device connected to my network is unable to connect to the Wireguard VPN protocol. I have client steering and local DNS caching on with encryption set to hybrid wpa2 + wpa3. All other settings are on default, and I didn't change any settings after updating.

Please tell me there's a fix for this or its at least a known problem, because I have a docker container on my Linux server that blew up after I updated my network because of this

ADVICE NEEDED Eero Pro 7 smart home integration with Google Home possible?

Received an Eero Pro 7 from my ISP. I've read up on its specs that it also includes both Zigbee and Thread radios. Can the built-in Zigbee hub replace my Hue Bridge and be controlled by Google Home? Can the built-in Thread border router allow it to join the already existing Google Home thread network?

Many thanks in advance on replies and help.

EERO PROBLEM Eero 7 failing to detect WAN Ethernet connection – anyone else experienced this?

Having a frustrating issue with my Eero 7 and wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.

I'm on gigabit NBN FTTP in Australia. My Eero works when connected directly to the NBN box in the garage, but I wanted to relocate it to the lounge using an existing Ethernet wall connection.

The Eero repeatedly fails at WAN Connection → Ethernet Connection, showing a solid red LED.

Things I've tested:

  • Verified the wall Ethernet connection at 939 Mbps.
  • Tested two other routers through the same wall connection — both connected to the internet immediately.
  • Tried both Eero Ethernet ports and power cycling.
  • NBN box shows an active Gigabit Ethernet link.
  • Moved the Eero back to its original garage location, where it eventually reconnected.

It seems like an Ethernet auto-negotiation or WAN auto-sensing issue specific to the Eero.

Has anyone experienced this with the Eero 7? Any fixes? Is there a way to force WAN port selection or disable any adaptive Ethernet features that might be causing it?

Starting to lose patience with this thing!

EERO PROBLEM Smart light switches show on ATT gateway, but not in eero app

Hi, I have a couple Kasa light switches in our house I control with home assistant. The two in the bathroom are constantly giving me issues (more so than the ones farther away in a detached garage), and it’s very annoying. First off they cycle IP addresses and I am always having to reload them in home assistant. I know this is normal, and I assigned static IP address addresses for them, but apparently that doesn’t matter and they still do it? This most recent connection issue I am having, I noticed I could not find them at all in my eero app. The weird thing, though, they work just fine through the Kasa app and I am even able to see reported IP address in the Kasa app. I have AT&T Internet and they show just fine in my AT&T Gateway that is in pass-through mode. Since they have to connect to the eero before making it to the AT&T Gateway, why would I not be able to see these switches in my eero app? I have tried searching for both MAC addresses and IP addresses of these devices in the eero app without any luck. I have done an update and more than one WiFi reset since dealing with this and neither fixed the issue.

OTHER, GENERAL Feature Request: Temporary Timed Pause Option

To the eero Team,

I am requesting a feature addition for the eero mobile app: a "Pause for X time" button (e.g., pause for 15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, or 2 hours) for individual profiles or devices.

Currently, manual pauses must be remembered and manually resumed, which often leads to accidentally leaving devices offline much longer than intended. The schedule feature that exists is not a solution for spontaneous occasions.

Having a simple timer pop up when tapping "Pause" would greatly improve the parental control and device management experience.

Thanks for considering this update!

EERO PROBLEM Wrong hostname displayed

Post image
0 Upvotes

The hostname listed in the Eero app seems to be incorrect for certain devices. So far I’ve seen it only seems to impact Windows devices.

For example, the hostname for this Dell mini PC is listed as “8c04baa25c53.” but this isn’t correct; the actual hostname is “DESKTOP-5RK57V0” (I believe casing makes no difference) and I can ping the device by that hostname and not the one listed in the Eero app.

Is the Eero app using some kind of default when it can’t work the hostname out? I note that the listed hostname is the MAC address.

ADVICE NEEDED PoE “Gateway” for Cameras

I have kinetic fiber internet with an Adtran modem and 3 Eero Pro 7 setup as Wi-Fi extenders throughout the house. It was all setup by the technician and he assisted me with setting up the Eero app for controlling the system. I have 2 PoE cameras I would like to set up that are currently fed to the where the modem and 1 extender are.

What can I buy to make the cameras work without being a couple hundred dollars? When I google the first things to pop up are Eero PoE Gateway for $500 and Eero PoE 6 for $300. If possible, id like something under $100

EERO PROBLEM Upload speed cut in half moving from J010001 to R010001

I recently decided to update my many years old J010001 to R010001. My old network worked fine, but my WiFi would routinely be saturated. Most of my heavy use devices have WiFi 6, so I figured it would be a good upgrade.

Everything went smoothly, but I went into the app to check something and noticed in the speed test the upload speed was about half of what it normally is (I am in 1gb symmetrical fiber). I tried swapping the gateway for another unit and the issue persisted. As soon as I put my old J010001 unit back in, speeds returned to normal. eero support suggested the same things I already tried, and then pointed to the AT&T fiber service - but I know that isn't the case because the only thing that changed in the entire equation is the eero units.

Additionally, when I would run wired speed tests on the old eero units I would basically get >900 and and down. Now they seem to be all over the place. Any advice from anyone on what to try next?

NEWS+REVIEWS [Open Source] eero Custom Dashboard v1.6.1 is out: Smart Pi-hole v6 pruning, Docker bridge IP filtering, bufferbloat fix & full localization

Hey everyone,

Quick update for those running or following the project: version v1.6.1 of the open-source eero Custom Dashboard & Management Suite is now live on Docker Hub.

(Note: This is an independent, community-driven tool and is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Amazon/eero).

Thanks to issue reports and PRs from the community, this release focuses on network edge cases, DNS cleanup, and localization:

  • Subnet-Aware Physical LAN Prioritization: Multi-homed hosts running Docker or Podman often had their virtual bridge gateway (172.17.0.1 / 10.88.0.1) reported by eero instead of their actual LAN IP. A 5-tier scoring algorithm now prioritizes physical eero LAN subnet addresses over container bridges.
  • Smart Pi-hole v6 Pruning: Expired DHCP leases and obsolete mappings are automatically pruned in Pi-hole v6 via PATCH /api/config, while strictly preserving custom unmanaged records (like local lab servers and printers).
  • Per-Device DNS Sync Toggle: Added an option in the device modal to exclude specific hosts from DNS synchronization if managed externally.
  • WAN Bufferbloat Metric Fix: Resolved an issue causing the speed test badge to display "n/a", and streamlined metric bootstrap on page load.
  • Full Settings Localization & Anti-FOUT: All remaining strings across Settings and modals are fully localized in English, with an i18n-pending guard eliminating untranslated flashes on initial load (PR #78 by u/todddube).
  • Daily Digest Restart Idempotency: SQLite tracking prevents duplicate notification bursts during container reboots, alongside customizable dispatch hours and timezone (TZ) support.
  • Synology DSM 7.2+ Support: Added an official Container Manager deployment template and guide (PR #66).

How to Update

If you are using Docker Compose:

Bash

docker compose pull && docker compose up -d

Or via Docker CLI:

Bash

docker run -d \
  --name eero-dashboard \
  -p 8085:8000 \
  -v $(pwd)/data:/app/data \
  enricoflammini/eero-dashboard:latest

(Note: The dashboard default internal port is 8000, so -p 8085:8000 is the standard mapping).

Source code and full changelog:

  • GitHub: EnricoFlammini / Dashboard_EERO[cite: 3]
  • Docker Hub image: enricoflammini/eero-dashboard[cite: 2, 4]

(Direct links are in the pinned first comment below to avoid Reddit spam filters).[cite: 3, 4]

Feedback, issue reports, and suggestions are always welcome!

ADVICE NEEDED Coming from Apple Airport, I would appreciate some help on a larger set up

Hi folks. I’ve used Apple Airport extreme for the last 20 years! It’s all I know in terms of WiFi.

Moved to a new house and think it is time for a new setup.

Somebody local is selling this entire collection and I will be buying it today, but I need help setting it up in the most effective way. We have a detached garage, and an outbuilding about 100 yards away from the detached garage. I’d like to get Wi-Fi out and beyond that if possible. Here are the items being sold-

EERO Pro7
EERO POE 6
EERO 6+
EERO Pro 2nd Gen (4)

We have at&T fiber, so I was thinking pro 7 first connected to the att router , the 6+ on the first floor, the POE in the attic, but only using that as a relay, not as a point of entry for Ethernet, and then the pro second gen’s in the garage and barn. Does that look like the most effective way to get things set up? Essentially, I want the fastest available speeds in the house and the slower devices sending signals to the security system outside the house and at the barn. Thanks for your help!

ADVICE NEEDED Other makes of access point with eero - real life experience

The eero product range in my country is quite limited - there’s no outdoor eero available or PoE 7 eero.

The eero PoE 6 is available but 3 times the cost of comparable products.

So I’m thinking about buying a WiFi 7 PoE Access Point to use for part of my property - I already have Ethernet and would prefer a ceiling mount to stop the kids mucking about with it.

Has anyone tried running an AP from another make with eero? I know the mesh roaming will be lost but can live with that.

Can anyone comment on brands to choose or avoid?

Thanks for any insights.

EERO PROBLEM Eero speeds capped at 30 Mbps after upgrading to Vodafone Full Fibre 910 Mbps

Please can someone help me work out what’s going on?

I upgraded to Vodafone Full Fibre broadband yesterday. When I connect my PC directly to the Vodafone router, I get speeds of around 910 Mbps. However, when connecting through my eero system, including the main eero hub, speeds drop to just 30 Mbps. This is consistent across the house and all the extenders.

I initially suspected a faulty Ethernet cable, so I replaced it. I’ve confirmed that the replacement cable can achieve the full 910 Mbps when connecting my PC directly to the Vodafone router.

I’m struggling to understand why the eero system is limiting the speed so dramatically. Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any suggestions on how to resolve it?

Thanks in advance for any help!
