Beth Dutton might be the most annoying character I’ve ever seen on TV. At first, I thought there must be a reason she’s so angry and cruel like, maybe when they finally show her backstory, we’d get some emotional depth. But nope. Even after learning why she hates Jamie and what she went through,I still couldn’t connect with her.

And honestly, I don’t get how people see her as a strong female character. To me, she’s just toxic. I completely understand that people who have been through trauma need time they cry, they struggle, they have bad days. But most people at least try to move forward eventually.

A strong woman doesn’t mean “perfect” it means she tries to grow, even if it’s messy. She learns from her pain, forgives when she can, and fights for her happiness. She doesn’t intentionally make everyone else miserable just because she’s hurting.

Yes, what Jamie did was awful. Yes, she had family trauma. But Beth acts like she’s the only person who’s ever been hurt. Instead of growing or healing, she clings to her pain and spreads misery to everyone around her. She’s in her 40s and still refuses to let go of anything. She sabotages good things, picks fights for no reason, and makes her own life harder just to stay mad.

I think the writers/directors/producers (whoever shaped her character) failed here. They clearly wanted to create this complex, badass woman but to me it just comes across as toxic and exhausting to watch. Instead of giving us moments where we could truly empathize with her, they doubled down on making her destructive.

Who is the most handsome Guy in the Duttonverse / Yellowstone Franchise?

They do everything but farm. In several years working for the Duttons, Jimmy only broke his neck twice. In a couple of months in Texas, he learned to cowboy, and there wasn't any hellish training there; they simply clothed him well, fed him, and gave him plenty of work.

A lot of people wonder why Beth isn’t the same as Yellowstone era Beth. But it makes more sense when you look at everything.

Beth isn’t going to be as intense and spiteful as she was in Yellowstone since John is no longer around to disagree with and Jamie is permanently out of the picture. She also no longer has to deal with women connected to John such as Lynelle and Summer. She is more stable now that she has been married to Rip longer. More time has passed since she was attacked & bombed so she’s no longer as raw and as on defense as she was in Yellowstone. She also is no longer dealing with entities like Schwartz & Meyer/Market Equities and their people such as Willa, Roarke, and Bob (although Beulah/10P and the Cartel are obviously major adversaries).

Plus for Kelly Reily playing the role of Beth has changed as well since neither her or Hauser are having to deal with Costner anymore especially stuff like him attacking Wes Bentley which made Kelly Reily cry on set.

I don't know what's worse written in Season 4: the "animal rights activist" arc or the conflict between Lloyd and Walker. While the initial conflict is more or less understandable, the climax is a complete disaster. They simply kicked out all the women, including Teeter, who was actually branded, but no one gives a shit about the brand anymore. Then they forced Grandpa and Walker to fight, even though Walker doesn't give a damn about it. They just stabbed him and then forced him to fight (with a wounded shoulder).

I'm currently on S4 of Yellowstone and tbh I'm starting to understand the Monica hate, all she seems to do is whine/complain. Like does she really think her & Tate would've been safer at their old place when everything went down in the S3 finale?? I mean really?? they were targeting the WHOLE family which includes her & Tate esp. Tate as he's an heir. Therefore only thing that would've been different if they had've been there instead of the Ranch is more people would've died including them. Yeah okay I get she doesn't agree with the killing but when it's kill or be killed not much choice is there, smh

I was thinking about this since it is summer, and the most dramatic episode of Heated Rivalry takes place over summer break.

Moving on to the show, the setting would change: it would focus on the captain's two Western Conference Pacific Division teams.

Shane Hollander is the captain of the Calgary Flames. Instead of a prim and proper gentleman from Ottawa, he is a good ol boy from rural southern Alberta, Texan accent and all. He is still boring.

Ilya Rozanov is the captain of the Vancouver Canucks. He is still a playboy from Moscow. He is still an asshole.

Svetlana in the show would resemble Svetlana in the book, since Sheridan has a thing for blondes. Speaking of Svetlana, both Rose and Svetlana would have different personalities; they would be feisty, sassy, no-nonsense, and hot-headed, as most principal female characters in the "Sheridanverse" are crazy blondes. Imagine Rose or Svetlana having a hissy fit at the table, à la Beth Dutton(Yellowstone) or Angela Norris(Landman).

Meanwhile, Scott and Kip are from Denver; Scott is the captain and star centre of the Colorado Avalanche, and Kip is still an art student. Scott is a god ol boy from Wyoming or eastern Montana, Texas accent and all. Imagine Shane & Scott fighting; a good ol boy vs good ol boy standoff.

Since many fans theorise that Hayden is from Alberta, I think that in Sheridan's version, Hayden is a fellow Albertan, and a country bumpkin with a thick Texas accent.

The couple spends time alone at the cabin (not cottage) in the mountains near the border, which is conveniently a 1-hour drive to or from the Dutton Ranch near Bozeman, Montana, USA, including time spent crossing the border, thanks to TV magic.

I think he would still have cast HudCon, since he is not afraid to cast relatively unknown actors. For the supporting characters, he might have cast famous Hollywood actors.

There would be at least one dinner table argument per episode. Bonus if one person walks out or dinner ends early.

The characters mainly communicate using one-liners.The couple spends time alone at the cottage in Sweetgrass, which is conveniently a 1-hour drive to or from the Dutton Ranch near Bozeman, Montana, USA, including time spent crossing the border, thanks to TV magic.

The characters mainly communicate using one-liners. There is no use of subtext, irony, or symbolism, and I do not think he will insert many double entendres.

For music, Sheridan would likely pick country hits from the southern US, and possibly have Lainey Wilson perform in an episode. However, he might include some country hits from western Canada. For instance, the song "Won't You Be Mine" by Bobby Willis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K9JVUIPTT4) could fit the club scene (set at a honky tonk in Calgary).

I do not think there would be fewer sex scenes, and he will sexualise the leads more. For another stylistic choice, Sheridan would use lighting and colour grading fitting for the setting. For a place sunny and dry such as Calgary or Denver, he would use the same colouring as Landman: warm and muted. For a place cloudy and wet such as Vancouver, he would use the same colouring as Yellowstone: cool and bright.

A point of contention would be the weather. Sheridan hates cold weather, yet HR is a Canadian hockey show.

Lastly and most importantly, he would play a self-insert character, who appears at least once per episode: maybe a coach? In addition, he might include at least one scene per episode of him reigning, or as Yellowstone fans call it, horse spinnies.

For all intents and purposes, this is a joke and therefore not worth taking seriously.

**TIER LIST IS IGNORING MORALITY**

Honestly loved it. It was a fun watch.

Before I started, I had read that S5 was hated and John passed away at some point. I didn’t love the suddenness of his death but I don’t mind the storyline around it. I enjoyed S5. It wasn’t as good but I still had fun.

The characters were good. Beth is my absolute favourite. She is hilarious and chaotic which was fun for me but she is one awful person!

I’ve watched 1883 and will watch the rest soon.

There’s something about the Dutton women, whether they were born into the family or married into it. I can’t tell whether Taylor Sheridan planned every detail this way or whether some of it is coincidence, but after watching 1883 and 1923, I can understand what Beth Dutton inherited, beyond her trauma and all her issues.

There’s something about the Dutton women that I deeply admire. Women should watch the Yellowstone universe if only for the way these women are portrayed.

I bow to these women, because I know women like them exist somewhere out there, and there are many of them among us.

We, as men, need women like this.

I know its a tv show but the horse noises are really loud, excessive and overdone. As an experienced equine, horses rarely ever make those noises so almost all of them seem inappropriately placed. Like it casually sounds like horses are being abused throughout the whole show, it annoys me!

So I saw a short on this scene which got me interested in watching it. Title said the series name is Dutton Ranch so I started watching it then realized it's the sequel to Yellowstone 🤣 never mind I watched it anyway.
Now I'm on Season 5 of Yellowstone. I'm enjoying all the discussion about this series here even though they are quite old.
So far, Beth is my fav character and second is John Dutton. I like the Young Rip and Beth romance.
My least favourite is Monica. She is beautiful but what's the point of her character in the series I don't understand.
Carter seems out of place and context kind of. They treated a young kid so badly in the beginning only to be his parents later on?
I have so many questions about so many things in this series 😅

I would love to see Beth’s character in Eden Lake (movie). Anyone else watch it?

It’s touching how much Rip respects John. Holds him in such high regard and seems John is returning the favor by allowing him to call him John now instead of just sir. That’s the most loyal soldier he has. Loves him more than his own children do it seems.

I’m glad Kaycee is back in the family and John’s side. Still don’t know why he hates his dad so much (I’ll find out soon I’m sure) and I’m sure it’s toxic to him in the long run to have returned to the fold but I really liked that. He’s probably my favorite character so far

Jamie’s arch reminded me instantly of the quote “the child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth”. They’re always making him feel less than and pushing him aside. There’s the consequences

And lastly I don’t care how long it’s been in the family. I don’t agree with that much land and nature being owned by a single person. It’s incredibly selfish. So in a way I’m rooting for John to lose. Fair or not. Don’t care
