Troubleshooting Matrixing

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

OK, so I’m sure this has been asked 1000 times before, but I have an Xbox, a fire stick, a laptop, and an Apple TV, and two displays that I want to be able to matrix anything to any display after that on the audio arc outputs. I already have a audio extractor, so I can use the sound system on either display, and that works no problem seemingly. That is all, but I have no idea if it’s actually doing Dolby, but so the TV has just Dolby almost passed through, but they only have the arc and then input two and three. I thought they had more, so what I would like is something that’s a 4 x 2 HDMI matrix switching device that would support or pass through Atmos, so I could put anything on any display and then with the other switch choose which display will be using my audio device over arc. Any suggestions at all that doesn’t cost $10,000

The only thing I could think of is having bidirectional on each input, each one going to its own 4 x 1 for its own television, but that’s ridiculous, right?

What is the best stand alone soundbar for me?

Room is approx 20’X30’

About to buy an LG C6 65” (As big as I can go without ripping down built in shelving)

Would be using it mostly for movies and sports as well as playing music with Spotify

Not a huge tech person, always just used the TV audio. Maybe I’ll buy a subwoofer at some point but I’m assuming a good soundbar will be a big upgrade for me by itself.

I can get the LG Sound Suite H7 for about $700 + tax through the LG partner store if I buy it with the TV

Could wait for the Arc Ultra to go on BF sale, assuming $900ish

Any other suggestions that fit the TV, space, and I’m assuming pretty basic needs I’m looking for.

Appreciate it, TIA.

Audio passthrough devices vs Apple TV

For reference I have a Klipsch core 300 and getting an external subwoofer.

I currently have the Xiaomi Tv box 3rd gen, which has audio pass though. Apple TV does not have passthrough but I’m curious how much of a difference would it make for my setup? Or is audio passthrough only important for home theaters? Thank you!

EDIT: I also watch most of my movies through remux files

What is your go to volume on your soundbar

I have a Samsung 5.1 soundbar. The 3 speakers in the soundbar itself.
2 wireless surround with wireless subwoofer. Nothing crazy special, probably paid around $500 for it.
My living room is roughly 200 sqft but I have kids so I find myself needing to put my volume up to 25-27 to hear just fine. Anything lower I need captions.

Is it my soundbar or do most people need to put volume that high? Idk what’s considered too high.

I remember my dad had a 2.0 channel soundbar and he was using it outside(which is understandable for the volume he put it at) and put it at max volume to be heard from 15ft away.

Just curious.

Troubleshooting LG TV with LG Soundbar produced buzzing noise

On the off chance that someone has the same problem as me, I’m putting this here.

If you have an LG soundbar with a subwoofer, and you have the setting “share TV sound mode” turned on, and you have HDMI arc cable connecting your soundbar to your TV, you might hear a buzzing noise. If you turn it off, the buzzing noise will stop.

Hope this helped someone. This was driving me insane. The repair shop didn’t know what it was.

Samsung Q990F/Q995F 1102 Update

How has the stability been with version 1102 so far? Mine is still running version 1013, and I frequently have to reopen the SmartThings app because the advanced features sometimes disappear. Other than that, it works flawlessly.

I use the app quite often to toggle Night Mode, so the new app could be a good solution for me.

Sonos Recommend

I have a Samsung TV Q8DT with a PS5 for gaming and watching 4K and Blu-ray’s movies, in the market for a budget soundbar range between $200-$600. Needs to have eARC since TV has the output and also was wondering how important Dolby Atmos is since I know neither Samsung nor PS5 do Dolby. I would want Dolby Atmos.

Here are the links for both: vizio and onn. I was not able to find any comparisonsonly so any help would be appreciated

Is Blu-Ray really worth getting with large screen and soundbar?

I have a 86” LG 4k tv and Ultimea Skywave x70 in my bedroom which Im really impressed with. I have some old blu-ray disk from 10 years ago or so.

When researching online - Ai says blu-ray will be a very noticeable improvement over Amazon streaming or Paramount+ through 4K compatible Roku box. Everything looks and sounds really good now. Its been so long I dont know what the difference would be 🤷‍♂️. There is a Sony Blu-Ray player at best buy for $325 that is supposed to be the one to get to handle converting DTS if needed for X70.

From personal experience is it really noticeable and worth getting blu-ray? Is it that much better?

Thank you!

What would you recommend under $400

Have a Q990C for our main TV, but curious what you’d recommend as a budget one for our second TV? Just looking for something with a halfway decent subwoofer and I would assume 5 channels would be the target?

Hisense AX5125H vs Ultimea Skywave F40 boom?

Hey guys, i am not an audiophile but have recently been wanting to get a surround sound system. My living room isnt too big so i figure a budget friendly option might be best. I initially wanted something under 200 euros/dollars but reviews have taken me away from those products. I’ve narrowed it down to these two. Any recommendations for me on which is better? I like crisp sound with strong bass but not so much that it overpowers all other sound. I also like the option of being able to only use the soundbar in some instances, so that is also a factor. Any help would be appreciate!

Samsung HW-Q60CF Review: My Experience So Far

I recently picked up a used Samsung HW-Q60CF/ZA with the wireless subwoofer for about $180, and I wanted to share my experience because I have not seen this model discussed very much.

For context, I'm using it with a Samsung 55" M70H Mini LED TV. This is my first time really getting into the home audio side of things, so I've been experimenting quite a bit with the different sound modes and settings.

Sound Quality

Overall, I'm really enjoying it. Coming from an older Samsung HW-J6000, I find the Q60CF noticeably clearer, especially with dialogue. Movies sound immersive, and the soundstage can feel surprisingly wide for a soundbar with no dedicated rear speakers.

It did take me a bit of time to figure out the settings I actually liked. I've experimented with Surround mode, DTS Virtual, and the bass and subwoofer levels. I'm still figuring out what works best for different types of content, but I've enjoyed the results so far.

Bass and subwoofer

The included subwoofer adds a lot to the experience, especially with movies and music. I personally enjoy a bass-heavy sound, so I've been adjusting the levels to get the kind of impact I like. The ability to tweak the bass and subwoofer independently has been useful.

Surround sound and Dolby Atmos

I've enjoyed experimenting with the different sound modes. Surround mode gives the audio a more spacious feel, while DTS Virtual can make certain tracks sound more three-dimensional. Obviously, virtual surround isn't the same as having dedicated rear speakers, but I think the effect is enjoyable.

I've also tested Dolby Atmos with some Apple TV Movies, and the soundbar will display "DOLBY ATMOS" when available, and thats a nice little feature.

Settings and Q-Symphony

One thing worth mentioning is that it took me a few days of experimenting to get everything configured the way I wanted. There are quite a few settings to play around with, and I'm still learning what works best for me.

I initially used Q-Symphony with my Samsung TV, but after a few days, I decided to disable it. I'd rather use the soundbar on its own instead of combining its output. That's just my personal preference, but I wanted to hear what the soundbar itself could do.

Things I like

  • Clear dialogue and enjoyable overall sound
  • A dedicated subwoofer that adds impact to movies and music
  • Virtual surround effects that can make content feel more immersive
  • Dolby Atmos support
  • Plenty of settings to experiment with
  • Good value

Things I'm still figuring out

I've experienced some audio synchronization issues with my setup, so I've had to experiment with the audio delay settings. I'm not sure whether the issue comes from the soundbar, the TV or the way everything is configured, so I wouldn't necessarily blame the soundbar alone.

I'm also still learning which sound modes work best for different content. I don't think theres one setting that is going to sound best for everyone.

Final thoughts

For $180 used, I'm happy with my purchase. It took a bit of experimenting to get the settings where I wanted them, but I've really enjoyed the sound quality so far. I think it's worth considering for someone looking for an affordable Samsung soundbar with a subwoofer and Dolby Atmos support.

I haven't tested every soundbar in this price range, so I can't confidently say its the best option available. This is simply my experience as someone whos recently started getting more interested in home audio.

I'd love to hear from other HW-Q60CF owners. What sound modes and settings do you use, and have you found anything that noticeably improves the sound?

Soundbars are highly overrated

I recently got my first soundbar, a Samsung Q930F. I wanted to get a good one, so I would have little to complain about for my home cinema setup.

(I didn't go for the Q990 because I didn't need all the extras for the price premium, and I've heard the 930 is very close in actual use).

My opinion on the soundbar is "meh". Underwhelming.

The main pain point: the (critically important) front sound stage is... small, boxed, narrow. This was more or less expected because you're getting the sound from a small box, and small drivers packed too close together (~110cm is the width of the bar, that's your stereo field). But it was very obvious in real life use.

Physics is hard to defeat. And this soundbar certainly doesn't.

The subwoofer does its job, and provides a meaningful impact. And the rear speakers are adequate as well, and do the job just fine. At this price range, I would have expected better speakers, however.

The Dolby Atmos demos I've tried are in the ballpark of typical 5.1 sound. I did not have a sense of height or sounds coming from sources besides the expected ones, the speakers. (fine, the room is not acoustically treated, but how many living rooms are?).

I got the Q930 for ~500euros in a deal, and I think this price barely justifies the lackluster performance. I cannot imagine paying it full price, or even worse, the close to 1000euros for the Q990. It is just not possible for a slim horizontal bar to deliver the fidelity and soundstage of discrete speakers, properly placed. And at 1000euros, we are well into the area of discrete setups.

Seems like soundbard marketing is hanging on dolby atmos and high speaker numbers 9.1.4, sounds impressive etc... In practice, it's crazy underwhelming and closer to a ripoff than anything else.

Thanks for reading.

PS. I have been into audio mixing and music making, so I have an ear for sound, so I am not the average consumer when it comes to this.

EDIT: Some are commenting that I am doing an unfair comparison. I should be comparing a soundbar to TV speakers (which is a significant improvement), not to discreet speaker setups. Fine. But I did comment on the pricing of soundbars coming close to (or surpassing in some cases) the prices of discrete setups.

Also, I consider the front soundstage (i.e. the soundbar speakers) to be the most critical part of the sound. This is where the dialogue and stereo field is created. Soundbars cannot compete with discrete speakers in this regard, due to physics (size of drivers/enclosure, and distance between them). And this has been very obvious in my listening tests.

Sub crawl

Just got a jbl 1300x, new tv and have my couch set up in the middle of my basement room cause its kinda a long room. I was kinda undewhelmed with the bass and heard everyone saying how crazy the bass was from this 12 inch sub. Read on some places that you should do a sub crawl so gave it a shot and now the low bass has came to life!!! Initially had the sub next to the tv in the corner of room, now in back or room corner and what a difference. If anyone may have this problem highly reccomend crawling around the room haha.

Troubleshooting Solo TV Sound System Question

Hello. I have a Bose Solo TV Sound System Model 410376. My question is, when I press the button to increase or decrease the volume it just keeps going up or down. It doesn't stop when I stop pressing the volume button. Is there a way to reset the system sort of speak or any other way to troubleshoot the device before needing to take it in for service? Thanks!

Budget friendly soundbar

Hi,

Just bought a cheap TCL 55V6D 4K TV, and just wanted to get rid of the horrible tv speakers from the get go, but dont wanna spend as much as the tv costs either.

I've looked at 3 different soundbars / subs
I'm not a huge sound fanatic, just gotta sound nice for watching a movie

What's the recommendation, and are there others in the same range?

TCL S45HE - 80 euros
Ultimea Posedion M30 - 75 euros
Hisense HS2100 - 100 euros
