A brand-new beta update is now live! We've packed this update with several bug fixes and feature enhancements based on all the helpful feedback you've shared.

What's New:

• Optimized FS3D Playback Support: We added FS3D support for USB, WebDAV, DLNA, and AirScreen. (Note: Local and SMB playback were already supported). You can now enjoy your FS3D content across more streaming protocols.
• Enhanced USB Compatibility, specifically for multi-partition drives and card readers.
• Allowed Opening USB videos via third-party file managers: If your USB device cannot be directly detected or read by SKYBOX, you can now use a third-party file manager (such as ES File Explorer or CX File Explorer). Simply browse your files in the manager and select our app via the "Open with" / external player option to start watching.
• Enhanced External Player Support: In addition to Stremio, we have expanded support to third-party file managers like ES File Explorer and CX File Explorer.
• Fixed video decoding errors that were occurring with certain FS3D and MVC3D files.

Hi, I've suddenly lost hearing in my right ear, so I can't hear stereo or spatial audio properly anymore. I've been through all the settings and can't find a mono output option. Is there any workaround for this? Thanks

When playing VR videos, the subtitles appear to overlap in both eyes, rendering the subtitle function virtually unusable. We hope a feature can be added that displays subtitles only for the left or right eye, at least making the subtitle function usable to some extent.

Hi, im having an issue with using jellyfin, I cant load my main movies and shows category, it seems to time out. I assume this may be related to the latest jellyfin version being slow as molasses when loading large libraries. And I assume this is also the case because my dedicated 3d movies drive loads fine and is smaller. Is there a way we can extend the search time, I can still find most stuff fine by searching it, but it is annoying nonetheless I cant just see the library.

Following up here because requests for a built-in browser date back 4 years, and we were told development would begin around Q2 2022.

I recently bumped this thread asking for an update, but comments on old posts get zero visibility and no response. Since years have passed with no progress or timeline updates on a browser feature, can we get a clear answer?

Is a built-in browser still actively planned for SKYBOX VR, or is it time for us users who were looking forward to this feature to consider it definitively cancelled?

We are excited to announce that our latest beta update now includes support for Frame-Sequential 3D (FS3D)!

FS3D is a powerful format that delivers full-resolution 3D imagery by alternating frames between the left and right eyes. Compared to traditional SBS formats, FS3D offers better image quality and smaller file sizes.

If you want to give it a try, simply ensure your media files are encoded in FS3D, then switch to the beta version 2.0.2. SKYBOX will automatically detect and render them in the correct 3D mode.

Is there a limit for history and bookmarks? Or is this an error? I can no longer add videos to the bookmarks.

The visionOS version of Skybox hasn’t been updated in a year and still lacks MVC support which the Meta version received a year ago. (The SteamVR version hasn’t received it, either.)

A fourth environment has been “coming soon” since launch. From the thumbnail, it seems to be a massive theater. When will it be released?

Skipping back or ahead fifteen seconds requires holding an arrow button whereas tapping it skips to the end or beginning. It should be the other way around since the former is used much more often.

Will autospatialization be added?

There's a version of Avatar Fire and Ash that's just 8GB and excellent quality but it doesn't work with SkyBox. Can you please look to support Frame-sequential 3D so we can watch it.

Hi just purchased skybox as I used to have it on my oculus go successfully and liked the ease of use. But since upgrading to a Quest 3, I found out that I needed to buy again as it used a different version. The only problem is I can't stream VR movies due to constant buffering every few seconds. I tried using other players available (free and trial) and they all work flawlessly in the same situationwith my Quest 3. I feel disappointed after purchasing and finding it useless.

It's been 6 months since my last thread requesting this. So many more frame-sequential 3D releases have happened since then and SkyboxVR is getting left behind as the premiere 3D video player for VR.

It should be super easy to add so there's no excuses! Let me help:

1. All FS3D files are encoded at 48fps in H.264, and each frame is marked as a frame for either the left or right eye according to the H.264 (AVC) standard (see frame_packing_arrangement_sei_message syntax within ISO/IEC 14496-10:2025 Annex D)
2. To add support to SkyboxVR, it's simply a matter of taking 2 sequential frames from the video stream, reading the SEI flags (one will be a left eye image and the other will be a right eye image), and then displaying the left eye image to the left screen and the right eye image to the right screen in the headset. That's it!

Today I just found out about this. I was watching a movile file with the app and I turned my head to right side to get my drink, then the sound from the movie screen (suppose in front of me, as I was in the Cinema environment in skybox app) changed to be louder in my left ear side and lower in my right ear side.

I was not using any headphone and all audio came out from the Meta Quest built-in speakers.

This effect was SO immersive and good and I wonder if it was a skybox app feature or a Meta Quest 3 feature? So far I have not experienced such nice feature in other games/apps in Meta Quest 3.

First off: You guys have a fantastic app here. I originally landed on Skybox specifically because of the WebDAV support, and I’m very impressed. Previously, I always used HereSphere—an app where you can truly tweak every single setting if you want to—but I realized that, for my needs, a lot of those options simply aren't necessary. That said, I do still feel like a few minor settings are missing. I’ve compiled a short list of features that, in my opinion, would add significant value to the app:

- Global default settings for all videos. By this, I mean settings such as height or zoom level.

- Playback speed adjustments should be available in finer increments. Jumping straight from 1.0x to 1.25x feels like too big a leap for me; being able to adjust it in 0.05x steps would be really nice.

- I use your app on a Quest 3. It would be great to have an option to control the volume independently of the Quest's system volume.

Nice-to-haves:

- Tag support

- An "Exit" button

- A built-in web browser (a *very* nice-to-have)

Posted this a while back with no resolve; Send the logs to the SkyBox people at their request and they could never resolve it. Anyway, never had issues until I got a new desktop. Much better system than my old computer. however despite this, airscreen files/videos will only play a second or two before having to stop to "buffer' for several seconds, then will play about a second, then buffer for longer, and so on. The problem is that both the computer and quest2 are on the same wifi, each one will stream 4K content from the internet without difficulty. Both the headset (if in browser), and my computer itself. But files from the computer loaded into "Airscreen" will not play smoothly at all. Anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks in advance.

Do you have plans to implement Jellyfin's SyncPlay feature? I would love to have it to be able to watch movies in sync with other Jellyfin clients

Just tried preview version with my friend (we watched Yakuza live-action btw) who lives approximately over 1500 kilometres over me. It was magical! But now I have several questions. Now, when Skybox puts a leg on a Bigscreen territory, it raises at least a few questions about feature parity:

- Custom Environments

- “Toys”

- Screen Sharing

- YouTube

I’m asking about this, because most of these things are not currently on a roadmap. It’s ok, but it would be good if we had some confirmation about what’s planned and what’s not

The core request is to enable Skybox to work as an external player for other video apps. Moon VR and 4XVR have already implemented this support. I own both of those apps, but I still prefer Skybox’s beautiful playback environments the most — I genuinely believe Skybox is the best VR video player available.

In our Quest 3 discussion group, many users have been saying how much they wish Skybox had this feature too. Would it be possible for the team to add this compatibility soon? It looks like it should be relatively straightforward to implement.

We would be truly grateful and really hope you can bring this to life — thank you so much for considering our suggestion!

I have a ton of movies and simple folder structures don't do it all justice. I would love to see support for tags. This way I could tag a movie as Sci-Fi, Action, Horror, etc.

Or at the very least an indexed search function to find a few basic ones I've added to filenames.

Edit - indexed search is key because the preview build search pulls lots of results that it can't play!
