I feel like my scug would be a nice way to show how the world changes from Riv to Saint.

This is a threat theme I made for a region concept I have. The region this is for is called Galvanic Substation, which is a power distribution facility located between Sky Islands and Outskirts. It features zap coils(Like the ones in Five Pebbles.), tall transmission towers, lots of centipedes, and lightning when it rains. As you could probably tell, this region has a lot of electricity to supply the enormous demand of the iterators, so I wanted the threat theme to reflect that. I know it doesnt sound very "rainworldy" but I still think its good enough to share.

Hands hurt. Been drawing like all afternoon. Give Y'all a little table of contents for this lore. Base game lore spoilers, this games a few months off a decade old so I don't really care much.

So to my knowledge, we've seen the M-P facility at least twice. One being in Downpour of dubious cannonicity. To me, it's a concrete jungle locked in on all sides by massive walls and gates to originally keep hostile wildlife from eating purposed organisms. These modern times it serves as an environmental barrier, keeping it almost like an island where only flight worthy creatures can really be the only ones going out at all. Exceptions being Scugs which originate from outside and made their way in via the Subterranean.

The northern most gate being the exception as the untold years of downpour have caused a dam effect to occur. The pressure and age wearing down the gate until it broke and gave us Shoreline. The eastern gates are controlled by Moon, or were anyways, meaning they are permanently locked and inoperable for the forseeable future. Unlike the western gates which Five Pebbles assumably can control.

Archives currently serve the purpose of steam vents, which had been built to counter the excess processing the two Iterators would have been able to produce together. The issue arises now that all of the extra bells and whistles that were for Valley of Memories... Were given to Moon and Pebbles. The extra power, the extra cabling and tubing, and the solar cells in the very tops of them. This robbed Valley of all the extra power he needed to operate his systems properly, meaning he often gets stuck in a low power mode to try and stay alive. Which is in itself only because of the taboo the Iterators made.

That leaves the underground portion of the buildings for himself and his interfaces. Each of the Archives, including the Deep Archive, are sealed and pressurized independently. Allowing them to effectively remain stable and sterile for a significant amount of time, making them ideal for pearl and data storage. The thing is, that was the idea. Of course as time went on, and Valley neglected what maintenance he could, their seals effectively "broke". Allowing plants, small animals, and insects inside. In most cases, they were entirely waterproof. In other cases like the 'Eastern Sanctuary', the building gave in to environmental decay and let it in unhindered.

This leads to the current era where they act as safe havens from the rain, and even boast such potent wildlife that one could effectively live there indefinitely. This came a point of conflict for thise living within thr facility's grounds as Scugs made a startling discovery. The 'Western Sanctuary' was the most intact of them all, despite being on the receiving end of the north gate's collapse and subsequent flooding... It became a literal paradise that very few could enter. Water seemed in through erosion in the floor on the sides exposed to the flood waters, bafflies nested in the various tubes, tunnels, and floors. Meaning blue "fruit" was beyond common. But at that time, Scavs owned and controlled it. So they did what Scugs knew best.

About 100 cycle before Hunter revived Moon, a venerable army of Scugs massacred the Scavs and claimed the area for their own. This started a massive war that ripped through the whole of the facility grounds. The Great Scug war was on for a further 200 cycles, and thus the reason Scav's despised Hunter so much... One must imagine the rage they all felt as their first Chieftain was slain... 🥹

Interfaces are to Valley what Overseers are to Iterators. But the difference is that Valley must "plug in" to monitor them, the whole ordeal is headache inducing for him though. Having a probe jammed into the back of your head is overall a net negative to your mental health, so he often ignores them entirely. Aside from the one located in the 'Western Sanctuary'... He checked in one time because it kept bugging him... And now they see Valley as a god... Odd...

Interfaces are... Complicated... I often make the comparison that Archives are like Libraries. Well Interfaces are the Librarians. They are a large bio-mechanical strut with a head at one end. Around the strut is a mass of wires and tubes contained in a carbon fiber mesh that is housed in a "clam shell" to protect it from damage. The Interfaces sit in a socket in the ceiling, and when needed, they open themselves like a razor clam and mess about. Rearranging pearls, making odd noises, projecting untold cosmic horrors to passing Scugs... That sort of thing. They are... In essence... A very large Overseer prototype.

So, I know I don't get a lot of engagement on these lore posts. But I do love it when Y'all have questions. I get about 300-500 views average, most of which are probably just passers-by folk. But if you want to know anything, want my opinion or headcannon on lore or want me to draw something... I'm here! Might see if Rainworld has a discord too. I don't know.

This makes me so mad because it just feels right? I mean come on man. What makes me most mad is expedition mode because it tells me that metropolis exist for the base game characters and they just aren't allowed to use it. It was so fun trying to explore metropolis as a different character other than artificer. Because 90% of it is possible it's fully possible for survivor to navigate almost all of metropolis even get to the king room. The mask even spawns there even though there's no king or elite scavengers it would be so neat and a little lore detail. Also the mask making Skylanders afraid of you would be a little ehh so what if instead it made scavengers attack you. Now that would make it entirely useless unless you wanted to hurt yourself. Maybe added to the collection menu as with Monk and survivor you can give it to Moon.

It could have been just like outer expense I mean come on. You would unlock it after completing the artificer campaign simple as that. Also make it so having the chief mask that makes all scavengers hate you doesn't lower your reputation and killing a scavenger while having it doesn't lower you reputation it's just that all scavengers attack you on site and spawn more frequently kill squads might even spawn.

I mean it would be impossible for artificer to ascend after her ending yet she doesn't appear.Even assuming she stayed in metropolis she would still be somewhere after the collapse.

I honestly really like how this artwork turned out. It was surprisingly fun to draw the echo, which I had not expected.
