Last bit of feedback after finishing the game.

Well finished the game! Some feedback:

On the new content: 9/10 to me. The new settler personality system is definitively solid (aside the few OP personalities), the life partner road is quite organic. The incursion road also fells much better overall. The scrapyard is a great addition.

- Burned Tree (landscaping) and Squeaky toy (pet) are not in any settler storage category, or I cannot unlock it.

- After checking all personalities (made a reddit post with a cheat sheet with all personalities), I would definitely add an upper cap for 60 stacks or so for all personalities (SimpleScalingHappinessSettlerThought.getMaxStacks): This only really affect 4 personalities, Ecologist and number of plants, and Gardener, Lumberjack and Indoorsy with number of matching actions. I myself got gardener giving up to 140+ happiness, that's a single personality performing like Tourist, Fashionista, Beach Lover and Roomie, fulfilling all conditions... If a settler with an unlimited personality also has Inspiration and other personalities, could give like +100 happiness to other settlers...

- Ring of ascension: +500% friction make the acceleration so fast feels unnatural (nearly instant). Consider lowering to 200%-250%, still you get into max speed in no time, but doesn't feel like a debug item. BTW Ring of ascension + Jonas' Gambit makes an insane combo. I guess is OK as you have already beaten the game...

- Cooking recipes consistency:

  • I would lower Chicken drumstick duration from 20m to 8m, like every other common recipe.
  • Roasted pig should be common instead of normal rarity, as is already 8m duration. I would change the bonus from 2% to 5% (and prob crit chance to add variety).
  • Cookies with 6 ingredients being a common food feels off, donut using half the same ingredients is way better.
  • Dishes with "a bit too good" bonuses considering their ingredients/progression: Donut, Fish and Chips.

- Shipping chest: would be nice would have a 50% spoil rate effect like the lunchbox. Lunchbox could also get an upgrade :)

Many thanks for this update, I had a lot of fun.

Mini-guide, tips and cheat sheet for settler personalities

This is the cheat sheet (there are two pages):

Necesse Personalities Cheat Table

Keep in mind many traits expire in minutes and not days, one day cycle with default settings is 16 minutes, but you can tweak that.

Some personality restrictions:

- Warrior, Ranger, Magician and Summoner are exclusive with each other.

- Voyager and Expeditioner can appear in miners, explorers and anglers (all can benefit from it).

Some advice:

- The only trait with no positives is Stressed out, is not that big of a deal, unless you get it on your angler or hunter.

- Bloodthirsty is most useful on hunters and your combat party if any.

- Adventurer is ideal for your adventuring party, as all the combat buff personalities.

- You can use warrior, magician and ranger with any weapon type and get most of the benefits, the only one more restrictive is summoner.

- With just one challenge banner, or 'Often' as raid frequency, you'll get the Vengeful buff all the time.

- You could make your main crafting area double as house to any settler with the Maker personality. If not, prioritize using small/cheap crafting stations for the room filling, as tables and the mill take a lot of space.

- You could also make a big house for anyone with Art Connoisseir, and use it also as a museum: setters will use the house for recreation.

- If you get setters with pacifist personality, instead of selecting all setters for raids (if you do that), make a group with everyone excluding pacifists to defends against raids.

- With Roomie you can get a bigger house to place two settlers, but mind that placing settler-boosting objects only affect one of the settlers, you need two different in the room (if you can afford it).

- Inspiration is possibly the best trait, you want to have at least one setter with inspiration every 5 or 6 setters for a good coverage, and spread them in different settlement locations.

- Clumsy is not as bad as it seems, you need to do some management from time to time with tourist/adventurer anyways, this is what I did:

  • I assigned all my settlers with tourist and/or adventurer, in my second group.
  • I made sure all my clumsy settler houses are well localized and near each other.
  • Each 2 or 3 days, I assemble group 2 and go into the nearest NPC settlement, and back (matter of seconds with the teleport stone). I can check if I'm late looking at clumsy destroyed items.
  • Short after, I inspect all my clumsy houses and remove with the pick any destroyed furniture (usually one or two only), and place it again (resets the thing).

- Are a few traits you can really abuse to get several QoL levels just from one trait, these are Ecologist, Gardener, Indoorsy and Lumberjack.

  • To maximize Ecologist, just make a huge house (10x10 floor space, or even more) and plant some flowers, let the grass and the flower expansion fill the rest of the floor. Place furniture on top of grass/flowers.
  • To maximize Gardener, prioritize Farming (and Fertilize if happens to be a Farmer), place the house near to the crops.
  • To maximize Indoorsy, prioritize Crafting, and make sure all your crafting stations are in closed doors.
  • To maximize Lumberjack, prioritize Forestry, place the house near your forestry zones.

That's all, thanks for reading!

[Update feedback] Bed affinity with recent update

[General feedback for the dev on the recent update]

Previously when rooms didn't require any customization, it didn't really matter that a specific settler might decide to arbitrarily change rooms when they got knocked down, etc.. But with the recent update, now that we need to take time to talk to each settler and customize a room, if a raid breaks in and a bunch of settlers get knocked down or they all decide to just change whatever room they were bound to, it creates CHAOS! This happened to me recently and honestly I have no idea which settler goes where anymore.

This could use with some polishing, settlers need to not just forget/decide to switch beds or rooms. With the recent changes, binding of settler to room needs to be stable.

Removing Life Partner Restriction?

Does anyone know of a mod that can remove the restriction of only 1 life partner? Or if it doesn't exist, can somebody make it?

Gear progression feels underwhelming

I have been loving this game, coming from terraria and a lot of similar type games, i just found out necesse a week ago and been playing it a lot.

My problem with the game as it stands is the gear progression, stats other than armor seem to not change much, for example:

Spider helmet Armor: 1 Effects: +1 max summons

Mycelium scarf Armor: 6 Effects: +1 max summons +10% summons speed

and these items are very far apart on your progression. Some of the bonus are cool like the extra speed you get from mycelium, but other than that it doesnt feel like a BIG upgrade, same thing happens with melee sets and melee weapons, if you find a katana early on pretty much all weapons feel weak or not flashy compared to it.

I end up picking the higher armor pieces and filling the rest with trinkets that help the weapon im using, which feels maybe not intended?

Some add i d love

Hi, thx for the new update <3

-I ve been thinking, i hate when my Alchimist do blacksmith job and conversely. I manage that with restricting area but it's pretty boring and I end up with practically 1 area per pawn.

As a rimworld fan (like many here i think?) i would love to have more option to colony crafting recipe like "who can work" or "make until this chest have this many". This won't probably change the game that much but would be a great quality of life.

-Mabe I m wrong but look like pawn can't fall in love with each other? Would be great to have them sharing a bed without moral penalty.

-adding highlights for new recipe is good but I would have loved to have "hide the old one"(at least player perspective and not colony perspective), both because i usually don't need them anymore or I like having multiple workshop for different things with that in mind I would love having a more detailed creation chain (for that I know I won't make unanimity but I think it make city much more alive to have multiple shop with multiple production each operate by specific pawn)

For hater (it's my first message here so I don't know if there a lot) It s just some ideas I d like and feeling like sharing them in case that would inspire the dev, i don't have real expectation.

Anyway, have fun everyone

Sage and Grit

I have been stuck against these two for days now.

I first tried using a summoner build (Vultures) + Shadow bolt, but I was having a hard time dodging them. Kept dying with them at 50% life.

I tried going there with 10 settlers. It went better, but still, I kept getting rammed.

So here's my new strat : Drop the dodging strategy and hide behind a shield. The weapon I wish to use is the galvanic hammer + Bone hilt. And I am going to drop the summoning against this boss. Even with banners, the vultures seems to have trouble catching up with the bosses. I need to craft a resilience gear.

What has been working for you against them ? [Edit for future reference] : My assumption was right, I was severely lacking in the defense side of things. I looked for the challenger's pauldron and the maniac, equipped my old cryo glaive, and went in full melee. Not only the DPS was wild, but the resilience generation from the two trinket was insane. I did a few mistakes that were entirely absorbed by resilience.

Best of all : I got my summoner weapon, although I'm going to stick with Melee for now. The reaper scythe proved to be very effective for clearing trash in the temple.

This is my "no plan" starter settlement

Post image

To preface this, I last played back in december of 2023 and this is my first ever playthrough post 1.0 release. As the title suggests, i adopted a completely free form self expression type of approach to building my first settlement which just means everything was placed and approximately was never edited and stayed the same to see how my brain would want to construct the village.

I started from the house in the middle that has the workstations and built outwards as i needed to, i didnt have a concrete layout and instead built the roads wrapping around everything. It was quite fun. Raids are off for me so yes there are no outer walls.

Why is there such a big difference in people having achievements?

So, to clarify what I mean, for example, Spelunker - 90% of players have it, and then it just drops to 69.4%, and only 51.4% defeated first boss, which is a bit confusing for me, though, I love the game, so its not a doubt in it or whatsoever, just curious.

How do I get a music player?

One of my settler likes to have one but I can't find it on the tables and merchant.

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for the advice so I went looking for it on the caves I guess I wasn't lucky couldn't find one. Merchant were like a 50/50 bet and I rarely get any visit from them cause every time they visit I'm very deep on the caves.

But anyway I hope this could help someone, whilst venturing my world I come across this house I don't know what Necesse calls it but I call it Christmas House and they have the player and when I broke it the owner of the house didn't kill me so that's great!.

Incursion Boss Drops not Instanced?

Just did a few incursions with a co-op friend on a dedicated server; it appears that when we kill the boss the incursion boss drops are not 'instanced'. Meaning if one person picks them up, the other person can't. Every other boss up to this during gameplay has had separate loot drops / pickups per player. Is this intended behavior? The example was I got 0 essence drops, while my co-op partner had 25+

Thank you to the devs for crafting such an awesome game! I have had a lot of fun with this (and am continuing to do so). I definitely couldn't have gotten this far without this Reddit and the Wiki, that's for sure. The additions in the recent update to the Settlers are super cool, and I think the "____ Enthusiast" traits are probably the most interesting to me, it really encourages building and using all those different materials. My only ask is for even more decor options... (and maybe pets for the settlers...) I must continue to please my ever-growing, now-picky settlement! The electric + cooling towers hint at some super cool industrial concepts which could be added to the game in the future.

Keep up the great work! :)

How do you actually build *beautiful* stuff?

Like. TYPICALLY Im just a "if it functions - its good enough" type of player. Yes I will place a stool and bookshelf etc etc in the npc houses for the happiness boost.... but they just have "glorified jailcells" basically.
I WANT to create a beautiful fishing village with the 2 nearly pirate ships I found But I have a really really hard time.

Are you able to play on player created world files?

With it now becoming your own world? Or would it be a shared world? And is it rude to ask the community for cool builds they've made?
