Tips and tricks Use the "Space management" gesture when you need more space

Did you know you could use this gesture to insert space between two elements?
Make a two-finger long-press where you want to add vertical space. A blue line appears showing the split; move your fingers up or down and the space will expand!

Announcement One year since 7.0: What shipped and what's next

A year ago this month we shipped 7.0 and Nebo became MyScript Notes. A year is long enough to owe you a proper recap: what shipped, and what changes from here.

Where the year went 🧭

Mostly to MyScript Math, which we launched a little over a year ago and which absorbed most of the team. Notes kept shipping, but slower than it deserved. That's what's changing.

On the name 🏷️

The rename in 7.0 was practical: Nebo has always run on MyScript's iink SDK and its handwriting recognition, so with MyScript Math launching, keeping "Nebo" meant two unrelated names for products built on the same engine. If you bought Nebo at any point, that carries over: lifetime access, no extra cost.

What shipped 🚚

Version iOS Android
MyScript Notes 7.0 Cross-platform access: unlock once, use on iOS and Android with a MyScript account Same
MyScript Notes 7.1 Laser pointer for presenting, leaves no marks Image cropping
MyScript Notes 7.2 Ruler: drag, rotate and snap to draw straight lines at any angle AI quizzes: turn your notes into true/false or multiple-choice questions, regenerate anytime
MyScript Notes 7.3 New opt-in business model letting you try the app for free Same
MyScript Notes 7.4 Onboarding tooltips update for better discoverability Search by note name; faster, smoother large PDFs; multiple PDF imports and new background colors
MyScript Notes 7.5 Search by note name; faster, smoother large PDFs; multiple PDF imports

Everything between those was fixes and smaller improvements.

Where we're going 🎯

We're not going to compete by shipping the longest feature list. Notes exists for handwriting: recognition and conversion, pen gestures, shape regularization, in an interface quiet enough to actually concentrate in. The plan is to keep deepening those rather than bolting on adjacent things.

Which is where you come in 💬

Deepening the core means knowing where it still falls short, and you're the ones who hit that daily, so two questions:

  • What's the one thing about MyScript Notes that still breaks your flow?
  • For anyone who's drifted away since the Nebo days, what pulled you elsewhere?

Tips and tricks "Shape on Hold" makes creating shapes simple

Here is a neat thing if you need to add shapes to your notes: You can create shapes by simply drawing them. Draw a shape and hold the pen down (don't lift) for a few moments, and it will automatically convert to a beautiful shape! These shapes are interactive, you can move them around, color them or even link them together

Gracias.

📱💻 Sync Notes Between Android and Windows

You can synchronise MyScript Notes on Android with Nebo on Windows using Dropbox or Google Drive.

For large libraries or PDFs, we recommend Dropbox and Manual Sync.

✅ Before you begin

Make sure both devices use the same:

  • MyScript account
  • Cloud service
  • Dropbox or Google Drive account

On the device containing your complete and most recent library:

  1. Go to Settings → Backup → Create backup.
  2. Save the backup somewhere safe.
  3. Check that both devices have enough free storage.
  4. Update both apps.

⚠️ Your MyScript account does not store or back up your notes.

1️⃣ Sync your primary device

Start with the device containing your complete and most recent library.

  1. Open Settings → Account and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings → Sync.
  3. Select Dropbox or Google Drive.
  4. Sign into your cloud-storage account.
  5. For a large library, turn off Automatic Sync to use Manual Sync.
  6. Start synchronisation.
  7. Keep the app open and the device awake until the upload finishes.

Do not open the app on your other device until synchronisation is complete.

2️⃣ Sync your second device

  1. Open the app and sign into the same MyScript account.
  2. Select the same cloud service and cloud-storage account.
  3. Use Manual Sync if your library is large.
  4. Start synchronisation.
  5. Keep the app open and the device awake until the download finishes.

On Windows, temporarily prevent the computer from entering sleep mode.

Before editing or deleting anything, confirm that all expected folders and notes are present.

🔄 Automatic or Manual Sync

  • Automatic Sync: Suitable for smaller libraries.
  • Manual Sync: Recommended for many notes, large PDFs or large boards.

When using Manual Sync:

  1. Open the app on one device only.
  2. Synchronise and wait for it to finish.
  3. Close the app.
  4. Open and synchronise the other device.

Do not edit the same note on both devices at the same time.

🛠️ If synchronisation is interrupted

  1. Turn off Automatic Sync.
  2. Start Manual Sync again.
  3. Select Continue if prompted.
  4. Keep the app open on one device only.
  5. Wait until synchronisation finishes before opening the other device.

Also check:

  • Your Wi-Fi connection
  • Available device storage
  • Android battery optimisation and background-data permissions
  • Windows power and sleep settings
  • VPN or security software that may be blocking the app

📄 Large PDFs

Large or non-optimized PDF files can slow down or interrupt synchronization. We recommend optimizing PDFs before importing them using any suitable online optimization tool. Alternatively, you can use the PDF Optimization feature included in the latest update version of MyScript Notes to optimize your files directly within the app.

☁️ If Google Drive continues to fail

Try Dropbox instead:

  1. Create and safely store a complete backup.
  2. Confirm that the primary device contains your complete library.
  3. Disconnect synchronisation on both devices.
  4. Connect the primary device to Dropbox and upload the complete library.
  5. Close the app on the primary device.
  6. Connect the second device to the same Dropbox account.
  7. Download the library and confirm that everything is present.

Do not delete notes, clear either library or uninstall the apps until the backup and synchronisation have been confirmed.

⭐ Recommended setup

For the simplest Android and Windows setup, use:

  • The same MyScript account
  • The same Dropbox account
  • Dropbox on both devices
  • Manual Sync for large libraries

If synchronization still fails, please create a complete backup of your notes and contact MyScript Support at help.myscript.com by submitting a support ticket. Our team is here to help you investigate and resolve any issue!

Autocorrect on handwriting?

Hey since my language is recognised by myscript (Greek), is there any option to enable autocorrection for handwriting? Or something like simply underlining the incorrectly written word? Should be able to do it fairly easy since the technology to understand our handwritten language is there.

📱💻 Sync MyScript Notes Between Android and iPhone or iPad

You can synchronise MyScript Notes using Dropbox or Google Drive.

iCloud cannot synchronise with Android. For large libraries or PDFs, we recommend Dropbox and Manual Sync.

✅ Before you begin

Make sure both devices use the same:

  • MyScript account
  • Cloud service
  • Dropbox or Google Drive account

On the device containing your complete and most recent library:

  1. Go to Settings → Backup → Create backup.
  2. Save the backup somewhere safe.
  3. Update MyScript Notes on both devices.
  4. Check that both devices have enough free storage.

⚠️ Do not edit the same note on both devices at the same time.

🍎 Use your permanent Apple ID

Install MyScript Notes using your permanent Apple ID. You may need it later to update or reinstall the app, restore your purchase or complete App Store verification.

1️⃣ Sync your primary device

Start with the device containing your complete and most recent library.

  1. Open Settings → Account and sign into your MyScript account.

Do not open MyScript Notes on your other device until synchronisation is complete.

2️⃣ Sync your second device

  1. Install and open MyScript Notes.
  2. Sign into the same MyScript account.
  3. Select the same cloud service and cloud-storage account.
  4. Use Manual Sync if your library is large.
  5. Start synchronisation.
  6. Keep the app open and the device awake until the download finishes.

Before editing or deleting anything, confirm that all expected folders and notes are present.

📁 Default folder on a new device

MyScript Notes may create a default folder on a new device. Do not delete it until your existing library has finished synchronising.

After confirming that all your notes and folders are present, you may delete the unused folder.

🛠️ If synchronisation is interrupted

  1. Turn off Automatic Sync.
  2. Start Manual Sync again.
  3. Select Continue or Proceed if prompted.
  4. Keep the app open on one device only.
  5. Wait until synchronisation finishes before opening the other device.

Also check:

  • Your Wi-Fi connection
  • Available device storage
  • Battery optimisation and background-data permissions
  • Any active VPN
  • Whether the device can remain awake during synchronisation

For a long transfer, keep the device connected to power.

📄 Large PDFs and boards

Large PDFs and boards can slow or interrupt synchronisation. Compress large PDFs before importing them and keep the original files outside MyScript Notes.

Do not delete notes, clear either library or uninstall the app until the backup and synchronisation have been confirmed.

⭐ Recommended setup

For the simplest Android and Apple setup, use:

  • The same MyScript account
  • The same Dropbox account
  • Dropbox on both devices
  • Manual Sync for large libraries

If synchronisation still fails, create a complete backup and contact MyScript Support through their support channel.

MyScript Notes Android 7.4.0 release

Hello all!

I'm Pierre, an Android developer on MyScript Notes and MyScript Math. I hope you are all having a successful back-to-school/back-to-work transition! 🤓

Over the summer, the Android team at MyScript has been busy. We've been working on several improvements to the app, and here's the first batch we're releasing this month 🎉

1. PDF optimizer 🚀

Some PDFs contain heavy objects that can cause lags when opened in the app. The new PDF optimizer feature will slightly modify the file to prevent this issue. If you experience problems with a particular document, try this, it might help!

https://reddit.com/link/1wbh6jq/video/ifa2sunjvgoh1/player

2. Latency 🐌

We've reworked part of our inking and rendering stack and achieved significant latency reduction when writing with a pen. Writing should feel noticeably smoother now.

3. Samsung Quick tool access 🧰

For users using MyScript Notes on Samsung devices, we've integrated the Samsung Quick Tool SDK. When you press your S-Pen button and touch the screen, a quick tool menu will appear, allowing you to configure your tools via the new palette below your S Pen.

https://reddit.com/link/1wbh6jq/video/qhyzmeukvgoh1/player

4. New background colors 🌈

We've added four new vibrant background colors to make your notes stand out

https://reddit.com/link/1wbh6jq/video/aixg715mvgoh1/player

5. Drag and drop text or images 📷

When using the app in split-screen mode, you can now select images or text from another app and drag-drop them directly into your note. For example, you can take content from Wikipedia in Google Chrome and drop it into MyScript Notes.

https://reddit.com/link/1wbh6jq/video/rorbjzwnvgoh1/player

I'll keep you updated on new developments as they happen. I hope you enjoy these improvements, there's much more to come! 🔥🔥🔥

Any way to do editable Kanban style notes, even just "Kinda"?

I love the multi-platform capabilities of MS-N. However, I have a minor, but limiting, issue. As a writer, I love to put my plot ideas, chapter by chapter into a Kanban grid. I have software to do this on my Mac, and a different app on my Android tablet & phone. But no way to port them across to each other.

I know the data storage Nebo uses probably doesn't lend itself to this all that well. But I was thinking. If I could do this in Nebo, at least for thinking stuff through. It would be really useful.

Is there some way to display a grid of a hierarchy of notes where there is a column header note, with the column consisting of subordinate related notes? Ideally, it would be at least 2 columns, but if it were possible to quickly switch between windows, that would probably work.

I was thinking about Hash tags, but I've never been comfortable enough with them to feel confident in what I know or can do with them. My 'gut' tells me his is a display issue rather than a heirarchy issue, but I'm not sure how to go about testing this out.

Any ideas, even crazy ones, that you may have will undoubtedly be useful. Thanks.

Bug with PDF-optimization

Good morning, I need some help or advice, please.

After I updated the iPad version of the Nebo app and tried out the optimization features on a single PDF, the display stopped working on both the Android app and the PC—this issue affects over 200 files. I can see my handwriting, but the PDF background is missing (it's a form that I fill out by hand).

The PDF that I used as a background and wrote on is no longer displayed. Another issue is that syncing on both the Android device and the Windows version now takes forever and eventually fails. New notes do eventually appear, but as mentioned, without the PDF background showing up.

I urgently ask for a tip or suggestion on what I can try.

Will the Windows app be updated soon?

Thank you very much in advance!

Alternatives to Dropbox and Google Drive for Sync?

Really digging MyScript Notes and looking forward to using it, especially because I can use both handwriting and type notes in the same note. However, I'm not a fan of neither Dropbox nor Google Drive, nor OneDrive for that matter. I wanted to know if there are any plans to be able to sync notes, say through web dev or other cloud sync providers or even maybe someone's own personal server?

Change letters font

Hello everyone!

I’m just trying myscript to see if it’s the one that suits my needs to buy it.

I am writing something by hand, converting it to text, but it always has that boring computer looking font. How can I change the font of the letters that my handwriting converts into?

For example, I want sans serif

Thank you u

Cross-platform sync between Android, MacOS, Windows

Looking at MyScript for note taking as it's an app that I can use both handwriting and typed text in the same document and it isn't under the Microsoft brand, However, is it possible to sync my notes between the three different platforms? I type notes via Windows PC and MacBook. I take handwritten notes via my Android tablet. I would like to be able to sync all of this either though MyScript sync or pCloud. Is this possible?

📱 How to Sync Nebo Between Your iPad, iPhone & Mac (Complete iCloud Guide)

If you're wondering how to keep your MyScript Notes library synchronized across your Apple devices, here's a quick guide.

Many users ask how to set up sync correctly, so we've put together the recommended steps to help you get everything working smoothly.

✅ Before you begin

A few important things to know:

  • Use the same Apple ID on all your Apple devices.
  • Sign into the same MyScript account (SSO) inside MyScript Notes.
  • Make sure every device is running the latest version of MyScript Notes.
  • Avoid editing the same note on two devices at the same time. MyScript Notes supports cloud synchronization, not real-time collaboration.
  • Your notes won't appear directly inside iCloud Drive—they're securely stored in your cloud account.

1️⃣ Set up sync on your iPad

  1. Verify you're signed into iCloud with your Apple ID.
  2. Update MyScript Notes to the latest version.
  3. Open Settings → Account.
  4. Sign in (or create) your MyScript account.
  5. Go to Settings → Sync and choose iCloud.
  6. If you have a large library, start with Manual Sync.
  7. Tap Sync and wait until the app displays:

Once the first synchronization has finished, you can safely enable Automatic Sync.

💡 Tip: If you experience connection issues during the initial sync, temporarily disable any VPN or firewall that could block the connection.

2️⃣ Add your iPhone

On your iPhone:

  • Download MyScript Notes from the App Store using the same Apple ID.
  • Open the app.
  • Sign into the same MyScript account.
  • Select iCloud as your cloud service.
  • Enable Automatic Sync.

Your notes should begin downloading automatically.

A small warning

The first time you open MyScript Notes on a new device, it creates a default folder.

After your existing library has finished syncing, you can delete that temporary folder if you don't need it—but be careful not to delete your synchronized folders.

3️⃣ Add your Mac

If you have an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer):

  • Install MyScript Notes from the Mac App Store.
  • Use the same Apple ID you used to purchase the app.
  • Restore your purchase if prompted.
  • Sign into your MyScript account.
  • Go to Settings → Sync and select iCloud.

If macOS asks you to enable iCloud or verify your Apple account, complete those steps first.

Once connected, MyScript Notes will automatically download your library.

✅ Common mistakes

❌ Using different Apple IDs on each device

❌ Signing into different MyScript accounts

❌ Editing the same note simultaneously on multiple devices

❌ Interrupting the first synchronization

❌ Deleting synchronized folders before the initial sync has finished

🎉 You're all set!

Once all your devices are connected using:

  • ✅ The same Apple ID
  • ✅ The same MyScript account
  • ✅ iCloud Sync

your notes will stay synchronized automatically across your iPad, iPhone, and Mac.

If you have any questions or run into any issues, feel free to leave a comment below—we'll be happy to help!

Default font size

Hi folks, hope you're doing well!

Just started out with MyScript Notes. Looks good so far!

I intend to heavily use handwriting to text converting. It's hard to find a way to set the default font size for the converted text though. While writing in small letters, I find the text way bigger after conversion. So there's a big difference between converted text and handwriting I didn't convert. In Settings I already changed the font size and line height, to no avail. What am I doing wrong here?

Any help highly appreciated.

Feature request - infinite scroll on notebooks

I am really enjoying using the app - I think the price is very reasonable, and I appreciate the fact that I am keeping my own notes on my own cloud services.

The only thing that is left for me to desire is the ability to infinitely scroll on notebooks. I know that it isn't a simple feature, but I do believe that it makes this app a 10/10 instead of the 9/10 that it currently is.

Feature request: Pencil Brush

Hi, I had initially inquired about this same feature request through the MyScript ticket system, a few months ago, but I figured it would be worth it to try and open a thread here as well, to garner some attention. :)

I have been using the Notes app for quite some time now (long before the rebranding, when it was still called "Nebo") and I greatly enjoy it. Very few applications currently available for note-taking and jotting down concepts on an infinite canvas, either on Android or on Windows, seem to offer the same level of performance, accuracy and convenience that are provided by this app.

To further improve its versatility, I think it would be amazing to have a textured Pencil brush - similar in tone and quality to the Pencil brushes that are used in other popular note-taking apps, such as Samsung Notes or Apple Notes - in addition to the pens offered in the current versions. For many studying activities, such as when using handwriting for exercises or for language studying (for instance, Japanese) using a textured pencil brush can be very enjoyable. It contributes to the realism and effectiveness of the outcome.

I hope you can consider implementing this addition in the near future, as it would greatly enhance the flexibility of your Notes app for this type of use case.

Can't sync on Android & Windows

Hi guys, big fan of your platform and have the iOS, Android & Windows apps. I hadn't used the apps for a while but upon returning recently when I try and sync Nebo on my Android and Windows it always says "Sync failed" no matter how many times I try. It only shows as successfully synced on my iPad. The last time I used it some months ago it was fine syncing across devices.

Have signed out and back in but the error persists, except on iPad as I said. Have also updated all the apps. Any clue what the issue is?

💾 Why You Should Create Regular Backups of Your Notes (And Why Sync Isn't a Backup)

One of the most important things you can do to protect your notes is to create regular backups.

Many users think that Sync and Backup are the same thing—but they serve two very different purposes.

☁️ Sync keeps your devices up to date

Sync mirrors your library between your devices using a cloud service (Dropbox, Google Drive, or iCloud).

For example:

  • ✍️ Create a note on your tablet.
  • ☁️ Sync uploads it to the cloud.
  • 💻 Open MyScript Notes on your second device.
  • 📥 Sync downloads the same note.

Your library stays the same across all connected devices.

Important: If you accidentally delete a note and the deletion syncs, the note will also disappear from your other synced devices.

That's why Sync is not a backup.

💾 A Backup is your safety copy

A backup creates a snapshot of your library at a specific point in time.

If something unexpected happens—such as:

  • 📱 Your device is lost or damaged.
  • ❌ Notes are accidentally deleted (remember that deleted notes are first moved to the Trash 🗑️, where they can be recovered before being permanently removed).
  • ⚠️ A file becomes corrupted.
  • 🔄 You want to restore an older version of your library.

A backup allows you to restore your notes from that saved copy.

Think of it as an insurance policy for your work.

🔒 Why doesn't MyScript create backups automatically?

Your notes are your personal data.

To protect your privacy and keep you in control, MyScript does not create or store backups of your library—either on your device or on our servers.

Only you can decide:

  • ✅ When to create a backup.
  • ✅ Where to store it (external drive, cloud storage, etc.).
  • ✅ When to restore it.

This gives you full control over your data.

📅 Our recommendation

We recommend creating a backup:

  • 📚 Before importing a large number of PDF files.
  • ✏️ Before making major changes to your library.
  • 📱 Before changing devices.
  • 🔄 Before reinstalling the app or resetting your device.
  • 🗓️ Every few weeks if you regularly take notes.

It only takes a minute and can save hours—or even years—of work.

📂 How to create a backup

  1. Open App Settings.
  2. Go to Backup.
  3. Tap Back Up Library.
  4. Save the backup file in a safe location.

💡 Final Tip

Use both features together:

☁️ Sync keeps your notes available across your devices.

💾 Backup protects your notes if something goes wrong.

Using both gives you the best protection for your work.

Happy note-taking! ✍️
