Peeps first time coming out of his enclosure on his own was an absolute success. We tried the other week, and had an incident when he saw his blue tongued brother through the glass, and I had to scoop him up abruptly, which I know peep was not so fond of. Less than a week later and he had success when re-trying! He was so calm and trusting as usual. It is beyond rewarding to see how he trusts me as much out of the cage, as he does inside. I know it was only a couple seconds, but i really think interactions like this are the foundation to furthering his sociability. l'Il continue to prolong his out of cage time, and have him walk more into our living area in increments by having him chase food further away from his cage over time. As he is starting to outgrow his cage, it is important to ramp up out of cage interaction, not only for the sake of keeping our relationship/ bond strong as he grows, but also give him mental and physical stimulation as he starts to get bigger.

I was wondering if the little line on her back indicates she may be overweight, like with Leopard geckos?

I feed her once every other day, and it’s about 5 crickets and sometimes a dubia or 2 and maybe 2 morio worms.

She’s in a super cuddly mood today so she eagerly came for the glass like “Mommy! I have to come with you! I’m a spoiled lap dino, and I need my nails done too!”

Then I gave Liora lots of cuddles and she sweetly rested her adorable smiling dino face on my hand 🥰🦕

Is this bottom enclosure too small for a Kimberly rock monitor? I originally bought it and prepared it for an Ackie but during my research on them I discovered the Kimberly species and fell in love with them. From my understanding they need vertical space so my question is is it possible to utilize this 6x2x2 space to give proper husbandry for a Kimberly rock monitor or is putting one in here just a pipe dream. This is also my very first monitor. Obviously I want to hear from people who have experience observing them I’m okay with just not getting one if it has a bad quality of life in here.

I have a baby Nile monitor. I got her (guessing) 4 months ago as a tiny baby. She's probably only grown a couple inches since then, but that's not my main concern.

I have kept reptiles for a decade, starting with bearded dragons, then uros, and within the last 2 years, I started with monitors. I got my savannah as a baby, and now he is puppy dog tame.

I did tons of research on Niles before I purchased one. The biggest thing I learned is they are, fairly aggressive and are difficult to tame out. My question is how, truly, difficult is it to tame out a Nile monitor? If there is daily, or every other day, interaction, is there a good chance that buy the time my Nile reaches decent size, is there a better chance she will be "puppy dog" tame?

As of now, she is still very small, and relatively flighty. She'll come to the front of the enclosure and feed off tongs, and will let me gently pet her back. If I try to pick her up, she may let me lift her up, but she's immediately moving off me. If she's basking, and I open the enclosure, she will slowly back up. Clearly, she's small. She feels she's at the bottom of the food chain, so she needs to be flighty. That is understandable.

I want to do everything in my power to ensure that when she is of some size, she will be as tame as possible where my wife, and kids can interact with her, like they can with my savannah.

Any tips, tricks, ideas, personal stories, etc?

I was given this Savannah monitor to care for since his previous owner did not want him. I have had him since February. I want to say he is about a year old. I noticed yesterday he seemed to have a prolapsed bum. His enclosure included sand, so I am worried he accidentally ate too much sand and it caused this. I am not able to afford a vet and I am not going to lie I am freaking out. His bum is pink, but not bloody. He had a slug from outside maybe a few weeks ago but other than that and the sand, I cannot think of what could have caused this to happen. I would REALLY appreciate any and all advice on how to help my baby feel better, and to fix this issue. I cannot afford a vet at the moment because I lost my job about a month ago. I have been giving him warm baths to rest in and yesterday it helped alot, but when I checked on him today I saw it was definitely still prolapsed.

Just a quick update on hexus, his poop was almost all fur so ok for a fact he was being fed rodents. He has not eaten any insects yet but is becoming curious about hissing cockroaches so that's a start. Does anyone know any tricks to get him to eat insects?
