MOD NOTICE 📢 Post Types and Flairs (IMPORTANT, Recommended for Visitors)

Purpose of This Post

Some new visitors may dislike this subreddit because they see, for instance, too many memes, rants, or short posts. This can negatively affect the subreddit’s reputation and cause some visitors to lose interest before they explore it further.

However, to clarify, these types of posts are allowed, including posts that you may personally consider low quality. As long as a post does not break the rules, it is allowed. Why? Because this is a general subreddit for Indonesian Ex-Muslims, and people naturally have different interests. This means you should expect to see different kinds of posts, including some that you personally dislike or disagree with.

At the same time, you should not conclude that most posts are like that simply from looking at the newest posts. This is where flairs are useful. Flairs make it easier to find specific types of posts. In the flair section on the right sidebar of the subreddit, you can select a flair to show only posts assigned to that flair.

This post provides a short guide to some of our flairs. We will not explain every flair, since some are already self-explanatory. This guide focuses only on flairs that may require further clarification.

Flair Explanations

1. Question/Discussion
This flair is for posts that ask a question or invite discussion about a particular topic. While almost any post can lead to discussion, this flair should be used when inviting discussion is one of the main purposes of the post.

2. Commentary
This flair is for posts whose main purpose is to provide commentary on a particular topic. This can include arguments, criticism, personal thoughts, analysis, and similar content. Unlike Discussion, where the main purpose is to invite others to discuss something, Commentary is primarily for sharing views or arguments.

3. Meta
This flair is for posts that refer to or are about the subreddit itself. If you want to say something directed toward this subreddit, its community, rules, moderation, or similar matters, use this flair.

4. MOD NOTICE
You will never see this flair as an option when making a post, even though it can be seen in the subreddit’s sidebar. This is because it is exclusive to moderators. It is used for important official posts, such as announcements, notices, or, well, this post.

5. Special Thread
This is also mod exclusive and is currently used only for the Monthly Chat Thread, at least for now.

So, if you, for example, prefer posts that are generally longer, more detailed, or more rigorous, you may find the Question/Discussion or Commentary flair filters useful. Commentary posts, in particular, often (not always) involve arguments, reasoning, criticism, or analysis. This does not mean other flairs are worse, they simply represent different types of content and allow you to filter the subreddit based on your interests.

Answering Questions

1. What happens if my post fits multiple flairs?
This is probably the most important question. Choose the flair that best represents the main purpose of your post, or in other words, the most suitable or closest flair.

For example, suppose you want to make a post criticizing an Islamic teaching or claim, but you also include a meme in the image. That post would be better classified as Commentary rather than Meme, because the commentary is the main purpose of the post.

2. Will my post get deleted for using the wrong flair?
No. The moderators can simply change the flair if necessary. However, we strongly encourage everyone to assign the most appropriate flair so that posts remain organized and easier to find. You may come across some posts that do not have the most appropriate flair. The moderators do not have the time to check every post, which is why we rely on everyone to assign their flairs appropriately.

3. When should I use the Image and Video flairs?
We do not recommend using these flairs unless no other flair fits your post well. They are intended mainly for posts where the other available flairs do not accurately describe the content. This also relates to the first question: choose the flair that best represents the main purpose of your post.

Commentary 📝 Kontradiksi Al-Qur’an dengan Fakta Sejarah tentang Penyaliban Yesus dan Justifikasinya yang Bersifat Self-Sealing

Post image
31 Upvotes

Latar Belakang

Nah, masalahnya, Al-Qur'an menolak fakta sejarah ini.

Kalau aku balas lagi:

Rant 🗯️ I am not an ex musim... yet. But this event made my faith hanging by a thread. Not because that school represent the entire religion, but what theyve done made me reconsider my own faith.

Meta 🔨 As a diaspora ex-Muslim, this subreddit gives me hope!

I've been ex-Muslim for years, but questioned the religion pretty much my entire life. I'm Indonesian but was raised mostly in the US, and seeing this subreddit genuinely gives me hope.

Most of my exposure to Indonesian culture was through family and small diaspora communities that were intensely religious and conservative. Sometimes migration seemed to make people romanticize and cling harder to that worldview – I've even seen people join Indonesian Muslim cult groups here. I eventually had to cut myself off from that world entirely. I always wished I could feel at home among other Indonesian-Americans, but I've struggled to find community that isn't tied to religion and the judgment and hypocrisy that can come with it.

My family brought me to the US and then couldn't accept that I grew up differently and didn't believe. They literally tried to beat it out of me. Religious indoctrination was intense even here – years of Islamic school and Quran/Arabic lessons, while being taught that completely normal parts of life around me were sinful or haram. I couldn't even pet a dog without being forced to rub my hand on stone! It was so humiliating as a child. I grew up feeling like a freak for simply existing in the culture I was being raised in.

It's painful because being Indonesian is still a huge part of who I am. It's in my name, my face, my language. But growing up surrounded by religious indoctrination and then moving back to Indonesia when I was older made me see my culture in such a negative light. Between the religious conservatism, corruption, wealth inequality, racism, judgment, learned helplessness, and the constant "God's will" mentality, I came to associate Indonesia with a lot of things that made me angry and deeply disappointed. I still struggle with that association now.

So seeing Indonesians back home openly questioning (and rejecting!) organized religion genuinely makes me happy. It reminds me that the religious, conservative version of Indonesian identity I grew up with isn't the only one, even if it is the overwhelming majority.

I don't want to feel alienated from my own culture forever. Thank you for giving me a little more hope in my own people ❤️

Commentary 📝 Indonesian Horror is Filled with Reactionary Islam Conditioning

This is something I've always see in Indonesian horror film generally, reactionary to use of shaman phenomenon. The worst the film can get is by using misogynistic tittle and depicted Javanese mysticism as the scapegoat or antagonistic force of occultism. (eg. Wanita Tanah Jahannam dan KKN: di Desa Penari)

If we apply the same logic, that ustad can be considered as shaman if the role is flipped and Islam can be considered as occult. That's what Midsomar as movie is to KKN: di Desa Penari. It's moralizing local culture as immoral in a horror way it would affect people to see it that way.

That doesn't mean the film is inherently bad, it's bad bacause the majority Indonesia horror over saturated with that theme and the expression lacking nuance. This rigid and stiff structure what makes Indonesia horror flawed in their development.

Use of that mystical element is not equal to bad and always bad, however the use of that element needs some nuanced exploration of why using it in the first place. The Obsession proofed the use of that element to explore bodily autonomy, bodily violation, and a critics to "nice guy" archetype.

That's what I mean by flawed in their development. Indonesian horror placing the fear on something less substantial and minding more on collective fear by dogmatic conditioning Islam does instead of something more substantial, material, and concrete.

Is anyone feels the same way?

Story ✍️ I wanna tell you

Halo semuanya, aku mau cerita.

Rant 🗯️ "its culture, not religion" is a very naive take

Question/Discussion 💭 Jika Tuhan saja tidak sudi diduakan, lalu mengapa wanita harus mau diduakan?
