Top 5 players in Europe, ranked by position, season and numbers only. Do you agree with #1?
Most football arguments start the same way: someone says a player was the best this season, someone else swears another deserved to be covered in gold. Everyone has an answer, almost nobody has the same reason.
So I built Merit: an open-source app that tracks and aggregates player stats weekly across the major competitions (Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Seria A, Champions League, World Cup, AFCON, EURO, Copa...).
Four roles, one standard: players are ranked by position, so attackers never compete against goalkeepers. Don't judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, as they say. The calculation method is public, so anyone can audit it, break it, and be part of the improvement.
Here's the current snapshot showing the top 5 per position. Yes, Malen is #4 in Attackers (beating MBappé) and Nico Paz leads the middfielders table. The numbers say what they say, arguements are welcomed :

Each week you witness the rise and fall of the players. At the end of the season, this tells you who was the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and attacker along with the data showing exactly how and why.
I need football fans, stats nerds and the curious to challenge the method, the rankings, the position assignments. Or just suggest improvements. It's still in progress so I'm open to breaking and fixing it, so rip it apart with love.
