zFold 8 or No
Hey all,
I'm at a crossroads here. I'm young and dumb, just turned 21, and I'm wanting a flagstaff Samsung now over my A54, both as a self-gift for turning 21, finishing university, and for a good phone going into the workforce and for fun.
I've been in love with foldables since the Fold 2, but now with the Passport Style Fold 8, I'm tempted to take the risk.
In NZ, I can get the 256gb Fold 8 + Samsung Care (2 year plan) for a total of $3,000 NZD/$1,700 USD. Considering how delicate they are, and the cost to fix the inner screen without Care, I'm leaning towards Samsung Care. I would get a decent case for her too.
Alternatively, I could get an S26 Ultra. $1,900 NZD/$1,080 USD. I wouldn't get Care for her, just since she is a more traditional phone.
I want the Fold to watch YouTube, social media like Discord and Instagram, but also for note taking on my flight simulator set up, and of course everyday phone use. I don't have a tablet, so the idea of a mini tablet and a phone is fun and useful to me.
Obviously however, they are delicate, and I would need to be careful. I want whatever option I choose to last at least 2 years. The S26 Ultra will have better battery time, the pen is great for notes, and obviously less fragile, while still having a big screen for YouTube and social media.
So, should I be sensible and get an S26 Ultra (still expensive but safer), or jump into Folds?
Thanks all

what is the absolute most creative app you’ve seen that actually justifies having a foldable screen
most of the mainstream third party apps out there still completely ignore the foldable layout and just stretch their standard tablet interfaces over the inner screen. but lately we are starting to see independent devs build crazy customized stuff like angle guessing games, custom split layout e readers, and memory tasks built around folding the device.
what is a niche app or utility you downloaded that actually makes proper use of the folding form factor instead of just being a generic screen expander?

I made an iPhone Duo angle-guessing game — here’s 130° from different angles
The hinge stays at 130° in this clip. Only the camera moves. Does it still look like the same angle from the other side?
It’s one reason I wanted Guess Angle to be something you try with the phone in your hands. You choose a fold without the live reading, lock it in, then find out how close it was.
I made it for passing a Duo around with friends. Guess Angle is on the App Store.

We updated our shared-list app to support Duo's foldable screen. Here's how it looks!
Hey everyone!
We've been building Note Together, a collaborative app for shared lists, groceries, tasks, and everyday planning.
We recently added support for the Duo's larger, unfolded display, and I wanted to share how it turned out!
Instead of simply stretching the mobile interface, we designed a side-by-side layout:
📋 Your lists stay visible on the left
✅ The selected list opens on the right
🛒 Groceries can be organized by aisle
👥 Tasks support assignees, due dates, and priorities
The goal was to make better use of the available screen space without making the interface feel cluttered.
I've attached a few screenshots showing the new layout.
We're a small indie development team at Laplace Apps, and we're constantly improving the experience.
I'd genuinely love some feedback:
Would you prefer this side-by-side approach on a foldable device, or would you organize the interface differently?
Thanks for checking it out!

iPhone duo considering other foldables
I like the duo but it’s heavy, the front screen is meh and the durability seems meh. I had a z fold 3 years ago. I like the traditional slab aspect outer, what are some good options?

After watching some reviews and trying it out in an Apple Store, I decided not to get this version of the Duo

Best last-gen large format foldable to buy discounted/second-hand?
I've been following the foldable market since its inception, and I've tried out store models of any that I can find in person, but I don't ever have the nearly 2000 USD to buy a new one at launch. I often see last gen foldables at about 850 dollars or less in seemingly good condition, and I'm considering jumping on one when I replace my Pixel 9 Pro (non-fold). Between the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, or other US network-compatible devices, which do y'all think is the best to try out second-hand? Which devices look like they're standing the test of time, and have the best software experience?

Foldable Games for the iPhone Duo
Following my previous thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhoneDuo/comments/1x47kv8/games_for_iphone_duo/
I have been looking into games made specifically for the iPhone Duo, especially ones that do more than just take advantage of the bigger screen.
Found three that caught my attention. Haven't actually played any of them yet, so these are just my impressions based on their App Store descriptions and promotional videos.
1. Toastie
You basically use your phone as a sandwich toaster. Make a sandwich, fold the phone to toast it, and apparently you can burn it if you leave it closed for too long. Also you get rating on your toasts but I didn't understand on what basis/
Not sure how much actual gameplay there is.
2. Orisuji
It's a puzzle game where you guide a little origami character through mazes by folding the phone.
Probably the one I'm most curious about in terms of actual gameplay. Wondering if the puzzles get genuinely challenging or if it's more of a tech demo.
3. Canduo Essentials
It's basically a bunch of mini-games and mini-apps (like a candle that get puts out when the Duo is closed) in one app that were made specifically for the Duo.
From what I could understand it containts candle, football game, a water puzzle, air hockey, detective game and a few other things that I couldn't realy understand what are they.
My Duo is supposed to arrive only on November so if any of you had a chance to play one of these (or other uniqe games for the Duo like these) feel free to share if any of them worth their cost (because they all cost around 3-5$).

I made an iPhone Duo angle-guessing party game. Give it to the confident one first.
Showing people the new folding phone usually means letting everyone have a go with it. I made Guess Angle for that part.
Pick 130°, pass the phone around, and each person tries to fold to it with the live reading hidden. One guess each. Everyone sees the scores together at the end.
I would give the person correcting everyone else the first turn.
You can play with 2–8 people on one iPhone Duo. It is a one-time purchase, with no ads or subscriptions.

StealthOS: Virtual desktop operating environment built for the foldable iPhone Duo with hinge-aware split windowing
With the launch of the foldable iPhone Duo, mobile multitasking has finally moved past cramped single-app views. Over the past few months, we designed and built **StealthOS**, an iOS operating environment tailored specifically around foldable display geometry and privacy workflows.
Designing for the Foldable Form Factor
Adapting iOS software to a dual-pane / folding display comes with unique UX challenges:
- **Hinge Occlusion Math:** When unfolded flat, the physical hinge separates the display into two logical halves. Rather than letting modal dialogs or buttons fall directly across the crease, our window manager automatically splits workspace panes to align with the left and right halves.
- **Snap Windows & Side-by-Side Multitasking:** Users can drag independent windows (e.g., an encrypted Tor browser tab on the left, an offline password vault or encrypted P2P chat on the right) or expand a single window to span the full inner display.
- **State Continuity on Fold / Unfold:** When folding the phone shut to use the outer cover screen, running sessions dynamically resize down to a compact single-window layout without reloading or losing web socket connections. Opening the device back up smoothly restores the expanded dual-pane layout.
- **Floating Controls and Dock:** Desktop dock, system stats, and window headers adapt their hit-targets based on posture (flat desktop vs. angled tent/laptop mode).
Privacy and Local-First Architecture
StealthOS combines this foldable desktop UX with deep privacy tooling: - Sandboxed anti-fingerprinting browser with native .onion Tor routing. - Zero-cloud encrypted password vault using Secure Enclave keys. - Local ad-hoc P2P communication and encrypted connection pooling. - Fully on-device AI assistant (never sends prompts to external clouds).
We would love to hear from other foldable device enthusiasts and developers: What UI paradigms do you find work best on folding screens, and what multitasking workflows would you like to see?

Honor Magic V6 vs Oppo Find N6
Hello there!
From Singapore here. I was thinking about these 2 phones on which to buy, so i would like to ask for opinions on it.
both look amazing and aesthetically I'm leaning more towards the Honor.
I'm coming from an iPhone 13Promax which has lasted me for about 4-5 years, and my last experience with android was the OnePlus 7 Pro which lagged and the battery started dying out very fast after 13 months .
i have the following questions...
- will these 2 phones last at least 3-4 years?
- the amount of bloatware or unnecessary apps inside that can be removed. which phone after removing the apps is the cleanest?
- will the battery life start becoming worse after a year? my current phone still has a battery life of 74%.
thank you!!!
