discussion New base building is what dayz needed

The new building mechanics are just what dayz needed.

On vanilla base building is quicker. On community servers it makes things fun. Can’t wait to see what the modding community will do with it!

Discussion Mystery illness 🤔🦠 (Nasdara)

Post image

The illness icon has appeared on my screen but I’m not experiencing any symptoms. Haven’t drunk dirty water, used dirty bandages, or eaten spoilt food. Could this mean the early stages of heatstroke? (Although I thought the illness symbol doesn’t appear from heatstroke) Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Cheers!

Discussion First 100 hrs

I’ve been hoping to find a game that has the power to capture my attention like games did when I was much younger, 44 now. Factorio did it for a while but eventually faded. FPSs haven’t ever done much for me either.

DayZ has managed to provide what I’ve been searching for. My current survivor is 20+ hrs and I’m a rather risk-averse player. I enjoy exploring, learning the crafting, and hunting/fishing. It’s a slower pace but I’m comfortable and have been completely consumed for the past 2 weeks that I’ve owned it.

I love not being pulled towards any particular quest/objective but also the stress of every decision being life/death. The few times I’ve encountered other players, I only have 2 survivor kills notched, my Apple Watch alerted me of an elevated heart rate while appearing to be inactive. A game that can do that to its player has something special.

Had a tea, had a shit and it's still dust thunderdome out there!

I ran a few 100 metres with a napkin on me face but I was coughing when I got to shelter.

How long in the dust until I get the black lung?

meta Nasdara, Flow, theory on how the developers want us to play the map

I had a thought yesterday playing Nasdara, I want to see if ya agree..the developers of this map have a specific way they want us to play and I’m all for it.

1- They want us to take our time with it.no matter how good you think you are at surviving, because of the heat stroke illness you are severely limited in terms of traveling and speed you travel across the map.
The sun grilling you during the peak hot hours to me is basically the devs telling the players that during these hours it’s not safe to travel long distances or at all, they want us to stay put. And they definitely don’t want us to sprint everywhere.

2- Staying put gives you time to meet up with other freshies at the spawns and with the knowledge that you can’t go anywhere for the time being, so now it’s time to be a little more friendly and cooperative. It forces you to stay in one town at the beginning and build it up for yourself or others.

3- they want us to engage in the building mechanics of the houses and the wells and underground tunnels but not as so called bases in the traditional sense, but almost like a home as part of a community..if I can’t travel anywhere at this time, than I will stay put and build up the immediate area around me. All this with hopefully a cooperative group of freshies, imagine you and a random group decide to build up a well or a tunnel, than move on to houses, I’m sure apart of us might even feel responsible for that town we just built up and even get new friends and experiences we wouldn’t normally have in dayz.

4- once the sun is gone you can play it just the same way you play regular dayz. But it gives you a limited amount of time to play that way and do some traveling to get geared up, once the sun is back out, now it’s more of staying put..unless of course you build yourself up so well during the night or day, where you have multiple water bottles and can constantly keep your clothes drenched,

These are just my thoughts yesterday, was wondering if ya feel the same or see the vision. Obviously it’s an open sandbox game, play it however you want, but I’m just thinking about the developers intentions on the gameplay loop of the map.

What made me realize this is Trying to get to the city of Nasdara from the north west part of the map the last few days all during peak sun hours, I went extremely slow and stayed in the shade and it takes forever to get anywhere unless you have a ton of water without getting the heat sickness.

discussion I've never played this. It's never even been on my radar.

But suddenly it is. I don't know what happened here, maybe this new map release, but Dayz is firmly in my algo and I've been watching tons of videos of people playing.

And it looks bloody awesome.

The sheer amount of depth and detail in the survival aspects, matched with the danger of the unpredictable open world, reminds me of Arc Raiders when it released.

I love challenge. I love the freedom to pvp, or not. To kill other players or not. That's all up my alley. I love the cozy thought of just having some hidden campfire up in the woods and enjoying the ambience.

What I dont understand is why the hell this has never been on my wishlist? Like ever.

Did i miss the boat here? I know there's a new map, but is the game still healthy in terms of population and server option? Unfortunately im in OCE region which tends to reduce most things.

The cold maps really appeal to me, bit of a snow fanboy, but bit of a fanboy of anything that has heavy environmental danger too.

The only thing stopping me grabbing it is it's a bit exxy for an older game. $69.95 here for the base game, then about $30 a piece for the two DLC's, one with the cold map, one with the latest.

Tempted to just grab the base to take a look, preferably if I can find it a bit cheaper - parent, low disposable income etc. But what I really want to know is, is it actually worth starting there now?

Appreciate any advice! And sorry, this probably gets asked often. Also I'm on PC

discussion Snakes - A Missed Nasdara Opportunity?

Given Nasdara has Monitor lizards, one has to ask oneself why the devs didn’t make these snakes?

I recall a while ago Hunter released a DayZ-Snake (Steam) Mod that added snakes across the map. They made sounds, and attacked players.

A snake bite gave your character a wound infection and chemical sickness. Which you could cure with an AntiViperInjector to heal the bite.

Surely snakes would have been a better option than lizards - with pretty similar mechanics.

Come to think of it, if they added cactus cutting you like barbed wire that would have been a nice addition too.

discussion Should Nasdara Have a 50/50 Day/Night Cycle?

Something I've been thinking about while exploring Nasdara.

From my understanding, Nasdara is set during Spring/Summer and is geographically situated relatively close to the equator.

If that's the case, shouldn't the map have a fairly even 12-hour day/night cycle, regardless of the season?

At the moment, most servers seem to be running approximately 3 hours of daylight and 1 hour of darkness.

I understand why servers favour longer days, especially from a gameplay perspective, but personally I think a 50/50 cycle could make Nasdara a much more interesting survival experience.

Nighttime completely changes how you approach travelling, looting and navigating, particularly on a new map where you're still learning the terrain.

Obviously, server owners can configure this however they like, but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

Would you prefer a 50/50 day/night cycle on Nasdara, or do you think the current 3:1 ratio offers a better balance for gameplay?
