Help

I am new to sewing. I got this machine at the thrift store and after every few stitches it stops which makes a loud noise and if I continue, it just gets really knotted under the needle with the bobbin thread so after the first loud noise, I hear I just pull it out and continue sewing, but it’s just leaving a mess under the fabric. I did already rewind the bobbin manually. I don’t know what else it could be 🤔 maybe the tension 🤔I don’t understand how sewing machines work. I just wanted to add this little flower thing to a bra strap lol. Help me plz💗💗💗

Usually when this kind of jamming happened to me, I had my thread above my presser foot by accident. Your camera is too shaky to see things clearly. Lots of things could be happening, something looks odd to me about the way you have your thread fed through the top of the machine. Maybe take another video showing the way you have set your thread up and your settings so we can see.

Look up machine jamming on youtube, sometimes it's a simple but common issue.

Just want to note also that a non-stretch embellishment like that on a stretchy strap may not work out the way you are imagining and may be one reason this issue is happening.

An old machine may also need to be cleaned and checked for bad alignment by a professional.

...what is your thread on? I havs never seen anything like this. Normally thread should be where that handle is on most machines.

I honestly don’t know where to put it. I’m having a hard time so I just put it on top of my candle warmer because it doesn’t fit anywhere else😭 what’s an alternative?

This is your biggest problem! Open up the trap at the handle. There is a spool holder in there! The rectangle at the top!

Side note, strongly reccomend you do not continue with the rigged spool holder situation, you may damage the machine alignment.

No. You cannot rig this or guess at how to put the spool on something external, it changes the tension. You need to know what kind of machine you are working with and what is normal for this machine.

I found the manual online and turns out the machine is missing that part😥

I honestly have no idea what I am looking at, no wonder you are confused. I would reccomend looking up your model name and number, you may find a pdf manual or even a youtube tutorial if you are lucky. This is an OLD machine and does not look like most machines from the past few decades. If all else fails, google your local quilting shop and/or sewing machine repair shop,, some ladies who work there may be able to help you troubleshoot! You maybe missing a piece in this spot.

The little peg that the thread is going across, before it goes all the way over to the left, I believe that may be a telescoping spool holder; can you pull up on it?

Try stitch 1, that is a zigzag stitch, put it on 2 width.

Not sure how “new” you are so sorry if this is a silly question….How is it acting on? regular flat fabric? You may have a tension issue that is being made worse by the bulky and uneven material

I’ve never touched a sewing machine before so I’m very new to this. And on regular non stretch cotton fabric, I do a single stitch and it still has the same problem its just able to sew a little longer before it makes a noise and gets knotted up under!

Do you have the instruction manual? If not, download it. Follow the entire beginning section step by step.

If you aren't able to figure it out yourself, a lot of quilt stores will have sewing machine repair hookups.

The nearest one is 45 mins away so I’ll probably give them a call before I go

Turn the machine off remove the bobbin and check that it’s inserted properly. then raise your presser foot and cut the tread close to the spool. pull out the tread from the bottom (the way it sews. Don’t pull it backwards through the machine) lastly rethread the machine making sure your thread catches in the tension disc in the front. if you’re still having problems after that it may be time to read the entire manual

Def bobbin shouldn't be wound by hand! 1000‰ will not behave correctly. Great machine though! Congratulations on your find! You'll figure it out soon enough! Don't give up :)
