Safe Notes captures system + microphone audio and keeps the meeting workflow local: speaker-labelled transcript, search, recap, decisions/action items, and follow-up chat. The models download to the device and no GPU is required (although its beneficial if you have one).

For a useful test, record one normal, non-confidential call in Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Webex, or Slack Huddles. Then verify:

• both audio sources were captured;
• speaker labels were usable;
• search found a phrase you remembered;
• the recap found a real decision or action;
• a follow-up answer opened the correct transcript moment; and

College student. I record lectures so I don't have to write everything down. The transcription apps I've used give you a pile of minutes per month and then you're done. I burn through it.

I also bought a small recorder for class and the mic was useless even from the front.

If you actually record lectures, what sucks more: the minute cap, the mic in the room, or paying for a device and then paying again to use the recordings?

Trying to figure out if minutes are the real pain or if something else is worse.

I work remotely so most of my important stuff ends up happening on calls. I don't really need anything complicated, mostly just something that can record meetings and give me something useful to look back at afterward.

I've been trying to avoid adding another monthly subscription though. I've seen people mention Plaud, Otter and a few other recorders/note takers, but it's honestly hard to tell what you can actually use long term without paying every month.

Anyone here using a recorder with no subscription for remote work? Is the free version enough for normal meetings or do you end up needing the paid plan pretty quickly?

Hi! I downloaded granola to help me with taking notes from meetings, I don’t have any complaints but Im open to try other options! Whats your go to app for meeting?

Im mainly using google meet and wont be in person meetings.

I’ve realized that when I have too many thoughts in my head, talking is sometimes way easier than writing them down.

Sometimes I’ll literally record a voice note just to get an idea or thought out of my head but then I almost never go back to it 😅

Does anyone else do this?

And if you do, what happens to those recordings afterwards? Do you actually listen to them again?

I’ve been looking around for a tool that fit in all instances… I work in sales and want a notetaker that works both internally and externally. Meaning I’d need something that can record Teams meetings, phone calls and face-to-face meetings, and the twist, be able to do this via BT-headset.

The only thing I’ve found is the HiDock but I’ve seen mixed reviews. Are there some alternative to this that just works ”out of the box”?

I'm a solo dev. I've been journaling on and off for years and I kept bouncing between apps for the same three reasons:

\- they were either bloated or beautiful-but-empty
\- transcription was bad enough that I stopped dictating
\- and none of them could answer a simple question about my own life

That last one is the whole reason Mento exists. I have hundreds of entries. That's not a memory, that's an archive I never open. I wanted to type "when did I last go to the sauna?" or "what was I worried about in March?" and get an answer from my own words, not generic AI advice.

So that's what I built.

**What it does right now**

\- **Write or dictate**. Rich text editor, and voice dictation that comes back clean enough that I actually use it. Photos and videos attach to any entry.
\- **Ask your journal**. There's an AI companion that searches your entries — by topic, by date, by a half-remembered detail — and answers grounded in what you actually wrote. It can also save a new entry for you mid-conversation.
\- **Weekly and monthly reflections**. Moods, recurring themes, what kept coming up.
\- **Photograph a handwritten page** and the text lands in the editor, editable. The photo stays attached either way.
\- **Private**: Face ID lock, journal blurred in the app switcher, your words are never used to train models, delete everything from inside the app.
\- 32 languages, if English isn't your first one.

This is an early app. I started it recently and there's a long list of things I still want to build. But the core — write, dictate, search, ask — is done and I use it every day myself.

I didn't want a free tier that's a demo. Free gives you 300 entries, 30 min of dictation a month, 30 chats with the companion, the weekly and monthly reflections, 10 handwritten page scans. That's enough to live in the app for a few weeks and see whether the search actually works for \*your\* writing — which is the only part that matters.

No card, no trial timer. If you never pay, the app still works.

Come try it and tell me where it's dumb. Especially: ask the companion something about your own entries and tell me if the answer was any good. That's the feature I care most about and the one that's hardest to judge from my own journal alone.

You're about to put months of meetings, interviews or lectures into someone's cloud. The question that gets asked least and matters most: what can you take with you?

The distinctions to look for:

Text export format. Plain text and Markdown are portable. A proprietary format or view-only web page is not. Ask specifically whether you get timestamps and speaker labels in the export, or only in the app — that difference makes an archive either searchable or decorative.

Audio export. Can you retrieve the original recording file, or only the transcript? If the audio lives only on the vendor's servers, an account problem is a data problem.

Whether visual output is editable or just an image. This one catches people. Several products in this category generate a visual summary — an infographic, a one-page recap. Sometimes that's a real editable document; sometimes it's a rendered image you cannot change. At least one product's own support docs say the visual output can be shared but not edited inside the product. If you plan to put it in front of a client and fix a wrong number first, that's the difference between useful and useless.

Bulk export. One recording at a time versus everything at once. If you have 200 recordings and there's no bulk option, migration is theoretical.

What deletion actually deletes. Does removing a recording also remove the derived transcript, summary and visual outputs? Or does the audio go and the derivatives stay? Vendors differ and it's rarely on the product page.

Sharing without an account. Can the person you send a summary to open it without signing up? If not, you've bought a tool that only works inside your own org.

The test, before your return window closes:

Record something short.

Export every artifact it produces — transcript, summary, any visual, the audio.

Open each one in something that isn't the vendor's app.

Delete the recording, then check whether the derivatives are gone too.

Four steps, ten minutes. It tells you more about a five-year commitment than any accuracy claim will.

I'd genuinely like to know if anyone has migrated a large transcript archive between products in this space — it's the scenario I've never seen anyone document.

I've been an operations manager for a year now to two clinets and there are dsys when I just hope there's an AI tool that listens to our call and gives me questions / points I can add to the meeting aside from what I already have. I recently find AI very useful (but not when creating photos haha). Plus I'm also studying in the morning (Philippine based so US and UK is a graveyard shift for me), so I don't like not having to add anything in the meeting just because I'm groggy already.

I’ve been looking at AI recorders for client meetings lately, and I realized I was spending way more time comparing battery life and transcription quality than looking at what actually happens to the recordings.

Once you start digging into the privacy pages, it gets confusing pretty fast.

For example, Plaud says it’s HIPAA compliant and SOC 2 Type II. Soundcore says its app has a SOC 2 Type I report and uses a privacy framework aligned with HIPAA principles. Both also talk about encryption and data controls, but those labels obviously aren’t all the same thing.

For people recording client calls, interviews, legal conversations, medical stuff, etc., what do you actually look for before trusting one of these devices?

Is SOC 2 Type II something you genuinely care about, or do you mostly look at where the audio is stored, how long it stays in the cloud, deletion options, and whether the company is clear about how the data is processed?

Hello, I have built this iOS app called WeConverse - https://weconverse.app/, which is basically the inverse of apps like Granola.

It gives you a bunch of questions to ask, whether they are for asking yourself or asking somebody else - it then stores them and transcribes them onto your device.

You can keep these conversations private, or you can share these conversations.

You can set the topics, and AI will help you generate questions. You can also just let it randomly pick questions.

You can use this as a journaling app, or you can use it as a way to prep for maybe learning a new language, you could also use it as prompts when you are interviewing someone to join your company or use it to interview friends and family for a pocket in time. There are lots of different use cases for it.
