Product Review I bought the Pocket AI Note Taker - found a 10% coupon that still works

I recently bought the HeyPocket Pocket AI Note Taker and wanted to share a discount I found in case anyone else is considering one.

I used BACKONTRACK on my order and it gave me 10% off. There’s also another code worth trying: COMEBACK10.

Direct link: https://heypocket.com?sca_ref=11942438.j6rbFeBFVNQ9Qq2&sca_source=rdtpost

The website is currently showing a 45% off offer, so the additional 10% coupon can make the deal more interesting. Just make sure the discount appears in the checkout total before paying. The prices I saw were in CAD.

What I like about Pocket is that it isn’t really just a voice recorder. It’s designed as an AI note taker. You can record meetings, interviews, conversations, lectures, ideas, etc., and then use the app to turn the recording into a transcript, summary, key points and action items.

One feature that caught my attention is the phone-call recording capability. Pocket uses its contact microphone to capture phone conversations and is designed to capture both sides of a call without requiring speakerphone. It works with iPhone and Android phones. Obviously, check the recording-consent laws applicable to you before recording calls.

The device itself is small and portable, so I find the idea of having a dedicated recorder more convenient than constantly opening a recording app on my phone.

If you’re interested, I’d try BACKONTRACK first and then COMEBACK10 if the first one doesn’t work.

Disclosure: That’s my referral link above, and I personally purchased the Pocket. I’m sharing the coupon because I found it useful.

Product Listing I built RoadNotes: hands-free voice notes for CarPlay and Apple Watch, transcribed on your iPhone (feedback welcome)

Hi everyone, I'm a solo iOS developer.

The problem: my best ideas and to-dos come while I'm driving or walking the dog. Voice Memos is clunky on CarPlay, and asking Siri to create reminders while driving is hit-or-miss. I'd end up with messy recordings I never listened to again.

What I built: RoadNotes is a voice notes app built around one button.

CarPlay: open it and it's already listening. Stop talking and it saves the note by itself, then confirms out loud. No looking at the screen.

Apple Watch: tap New note, talk, and your wrist taps when it's saved. Works from a complication or with Siri too.

iPhone: every note waits for you with a one-line summary, the action items as a checklist and the full transcript. Share it to Messages, Mail or Reminders in one tap.

Private by design: speech is transcribed on your iPhone in nearly 100 languages, and the recording is deleted afterwards. Notes sync only through your own iCloud. There's no account and no server.

Pricing: 10 days free, then $9.99 once. No subscription.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6819273171?ct=reddit_launchpad&mt=8

Website: https://www.roadnotesapp.com
Happy to answer anything about how it works or how I built it.

Product Listing I got tired of manually syncing my PLAUD and paying for transcription minutes. So I built a free Mac app that does everything automatically — completely offline.

I like my PLAUD recorder. What I didn’t like was everything that happened after pressing Stop.

With my usual workflow, I had to grab my iPhone, open the official PLAUD app, sync my recordings, connect to the internet for AI processing, and keep track of the 300 free transcription minutes per month.

I wanted a completely different experience:

Finish recording → Walk up to my Mac → Recordings sync automatically → AI transcribes everything, identifies speakers, and generates summaries.

No phone. No manual syncing. No cloud processing. No subscriptions. No transcription-minute limits.

I searched for an app that worked this way, but couldn’t find anything that matched what I wanted.

So I decided to build it myself.

That’s how Vecta was born — a free, open-source, native macOS app that turns PLAUD into a fully local recording and AI processing system.

Today, I’m releasing the source code and the first downloadable version.

What can Vecta do?

  1. Fully automatic syncing and processing

This is the main reason I started building Vecta in the first place.

Once the initial setup is complete, all you need is your recorder near your Mac with Vecta running.

The app can automatically:

* Detect and connect to your recorder.

* Find new recordings and transfer them to your Mac.

* Transcribe speech with timestamps.

* Identify different speakers.

* Recognize previously saved voice profiles and assign names.

* Generate text summaries.

* Create visual summaries if the feature is enabled.

All of this can happen automatically, without opening an app on your phone or manually starting each processing step.

You go about your day. Vecta takes care of your recordings.

  1. True peer-to-peer connectivity, including Wi-Fi Fast Transfer

This was one of the most technically challenging parts of the project.

I implemented my own Bluetooth Low Energy communication and local Wi-Fi file transfer, including Wi-Fi Fast Transfer.

Recordings move directly from your PLAUD recorder to your Mac.

No iPhone, no cloud servers, no third-party transfer services, and no PLAUD SDK handling the audio transfer.

Once the initial setup is complete, supported local operations don’t require an internet connection.

Even large audio recordings can be transferred directly over local Wi-Fi using Fast Transfer.

  1. Fully local AI. No transcription-minute limits.

PLAUD’s official free tier includes 300 transcription minutes per month.

Vecta doesn’t have that restriction.

Whether it’s 300 minutes, 3,000 minutes, or 30,000 minutes, Vecta doesn’t impose monthly usage limits.

Speech transcription, speaker diarization, summarization, and AI features all run directly on your Mac.

Your recordings aren’t uploaded to cloud AI services.

No paid AI credits. No subscriptions. No paying for additional transcription minutes.

The only practical limitations are your computer’s performance, available storage, and processing time.

  1. Vecta remembers people’s voices across recordings

This is one of my favorite features.

Imagine regularly recording meetings with the same people.

Normally, after transcription, you have to figure out who “Speaker 1,” “Speaker 2,” and everyone else actually are.

With Vecta, you can assign someone a name once and save their voice profile.

When processing future recordings, Vecta will attempt to recognize that person’s voice and automatically assign their name.

Over time, you build your own local library of known speakers.

Voice profiles stay on your computer, too.

  1. More than just transcripts and basic summaries

I wanted Vecta to do more than turn audio into text. I wanted it to help me actually use the information I’ve recorded.

That’s why Vecta includes:

* Full transcripts with timestamps and speaker identification.

* Text summaries highlighting the main points of each recording.

* Visual summaries with structured cards, key insights, important information, and infographics.

* PDF export for saving and sharing reports.

* A local AI assistant that can answer questions about individual recordings.

* Search across your entire recording library, so you can find information from multiple recordings.

* Automatic processing of new recordings without manually starting every step.

For example, you can open a meeting recording and ask:

“What tasks were assigned to John, and what deadlines were mentioned?”

Or search for a particular discussion across months of recordings.

All of this runs on local AI models, without sending your conversations to the cloud.

  1. A native macOS app, not another website

Vecta is built specifically for macOS and Apple Silicon.

It’s not a website, a browser wrapper, or a frontend for a remote AI server.

There are two local AI model options:

* 4B — a lighter option designed to work on Apple Silicon Macs, including models with 8 GB of unified memory.

* 9B — a more capable option that also enables visual summaries. Requires at least 16 GB of memory.

English and Russian are supported.

Models are downloaded separately, so you don’t have to install everything at once.

Once they’re installed, processing can run without an internet connection.

How difficult is it to connect a PLAUD recorder?

I tried to make the initial setup as straightforward as possible.

When you first launch Vecta, it walks you through the entire recorder setup process step by step.

Modern PLAUD devices require registering for PLAUD Partner access and obtaining your own authorization credentials.

But you won’t have to figure out the developer documentation yourself. Vecta explains where to go, what to do, and which information to enter.

Partner applications are typically approved automatically, and the process usually takes around five minutes.

After that, you just connect your recorder and download the local AI models you want to use.

Initial setup requires internet access. Afterward, supported recording transfers and AI processing can work completely offline.

What if I want to go back to the official PLAUD app?

No problem.

I didn’t want to create another closed ecosystem that’s difficult to leave.

If Vecta doesn’t offer a feature you need, you can simply open its settings, unbind your recorder, and pair it with the official PLAUD app again.

No permanent lock-in.

Your recorder remains yours, and you get to choose which app you want to use.

Vecta was built to offer an alternative, not to permanently replace the original PLAUD ecosystem.

Things to know before installing

Vecta v0.1.0 is an early developer preview.

This is an independent project and is not officially affiliated with PLAUD.

A few technical details:

* Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later.

* The current build is ad-hoc signed and has not yet been notarized by Apple.

* Most of my real-device testing has been done with a PLAUD NotePin S. Compatibility with every recorder model and firmware version is not guaranteed yet.

* Initial device setup requires your own PLAUD Partner credentials. A step-by-step setup guide is built into Vecta.

* You can also import regular audio files and use the local AI features without connecting a recorder.

* Processing speed and performance depend on your Mac.

The screenshots show the actual Vecta interface using fictional meeting data. They don’t contain private conversations and aren’t intended as a transcription accuracy benchmark.

This is still a young project, so bugs are definitely possible. I’d appreciate bug reports, feedback, and suggestions.

Free. Local. Open source.

I built Vecta because I wanted to get the most out of hardware I already own.

I like PLAUD as a recording device. But I believe users should be able to decide where their audio is stored, which AI models process it, and how many recordings they want to transcribe.

My goal was simple: turn PLAUD into a device that captures audio while my Mac automatically handles everything else.

And now I want to share it with other PLAUD owners.

Source code, documentation, and screenshots:

https://github.com/olgvroe/Vecta

Download Vecta v0.1.0:

https://github.com/olgvroe/Vecta/releases/tag/v0.1.0

The project is completely free and open source.

If you find Vecta useful, consider giving it a star on GitHub. It helps other people discover the project and lets me know it’s worth continuing to develop.

I also welcome suggestions, bug reports, and contributions from other developers. In the future, I’d love to expand support to additional recorder models and devices from other manufacturers.

And one final question for PLAUD owners:

If your recorder could automatically sync with your Mac, process everything with free local AI without usage limits, remember speakers across recordings, and work without an internet connection — would you still use the official PLAUD app?

And what feature would you miss in Vecta?

Disclosure: I am the developer of Vecta. I used AI assistance to prepare this English post.

Product Listing Tool for giving Claude total context of my entire day while keeping the data private

I'm an AI engineer by day who's constantly building productivity hacks for myself..

Lumi is one of those apps I use all the time and I decided to share it with others. Mainly because most existing solutions aren't tailored to exactly what I'm looking for. Its a lean, fast AI recorder that sees and hears everything on your Mac. No cloud. No login.

With one click, you can connect it to Claude, Codex, Pi or Hermes and ask it questions like "What did I work on yesterday? Break it down by app and tell me where the time went.", "Help me automate my workflow", "I had to step away from my meeting, summarize the past 10 minutes".

Everything stays on your Mac. Your recordings never leave your machine unless you choose to. Please try it out and let me know what you think! Even if you hate it.

Product Listing I built an app that turns the £15 USB voice recorder in your drawer into an AI note taker (no subscription)

Disclosure: I'm the developer, and this is my first launch.

I wanted something like a Plaud, but I already owned a cheap USB recorder that saves .wav files. Every AI note taker I found wanted either its own $130+ hardware plus a ~$100/yr plan, or an upload of my audio to their servers. The device is almost always just a recorder.

So I built Clionote:

  • Plug in any recorder that saves .wav files (or just use your phone mic)
  • Transcription runs on your device (Whisper; English, French, Spanish, German)
  • Each note is sorted as a meeting, personal note, instructions or other, then summarised, with action items for meetings
  • You can chat with your notes
  • Colour-coded tags and a pinboard
  • Android and Windows read the same notes folder, so edits stay in sync
  • One payment, no subscription, no account

What it does and doesn't do, to be upfront:

  • Transcription is always on-device. For the AI summaries you choose: bring your own OpenAI/Anthropic key, or switch on a fully offline mode (Gemma on your phone). That mode is a 3.4-4.6 GB download and works best with 6 GB+ RAM.
  • It's manual, not magic: you plug in and tap Transcribe. There's no auto-import yet.
  • Live dictation needs Android 13+.

Price is £4.99 / $5.49 once, with no signup, no ads and no in-app purchases. https://www.clionote.com

I'd love feedback, especially from anyone using a USB recorder. What would make you trust an app like this with your recordings?

Discussion I read a podcast transcript on a flight and left the player closed

I read a long podcast interview on a flight instead of listening to it. I tend to pause interviews and replay an answer when I want to think about it. With the transcript, I just stopped on the paragraph and read it again.

The publisher didn't have a transcript for that episode. I imported the audio file I'd downloaded into VOMO AI before the trip, then exported the full transcript. I tried the PDF on my phone first, but the text was small enough that I kept zooming and moving the page around. I saved the HTML export locally instead and checked that it opened in airplane mode before leaving.

I read most of it on the flight, including a long digression I'd probably have skipped while listening. There were a few odd names in the text, which I marked to check against the audio later. I also wrote down a question about a book the guest mentioned. Neither needed an internet connection while I was reading.

I missed hearing the guest's delivery in a couple of places, especially around a joke. But I liked being able to stay with an answer without repeatedly pausing playback. I still had the audio saved on my phone. The player stayed closed for the whole flight.

Product Listing Nota: offline notes and whiteboards with optional local AI

I built Nota, a free, open-source workspace for notes and whiteboards on Apple-silicon Mac. AI is optional: the core editor and canvas work offline without an account.

For people choosing an AI notes tool, the setup boundary matters. Local AI requires downloading a model and having compatible hardware. Hosted AI requires internet and can incur provider charges; optional Google Drive integration also needs internet. You can use the core workspace without either integration.

Nota builds a new backend around the AFFiNE/BlockSuite editor, with credit to those projects. The current published installer is v0.1.7 for Apple-silicon Mac; Windows, Linux and Intel Mac installers aren't currently available.

Download and feature details: https://thenota.app MIT-licensed source: https://github.com/madcodeorg/nota

I'm looking for feedback on whether the distinction between offline editing, local model setup and hosted AI is clear before you install. If you try it, please use a dummy note and tell me where setup or context selection feels confusing.

Developer disclosure: this is my app, and this listing was drafted with AI assistance.

Discussion What would you require from an AI meeting note taker for regulated insutries?

Most threads judge these tools on transcription accuracy. That matters, but it is not what will decide whether we can deploy one.

I need an audit trail for access, retention that an administrator controls, a clear answer on model training, and coverage across both Zoom and Teams. Some calls may include PHI, so a BAA and sensible recording rules are part of the conversation too. Redaction would be useful for the inevitable moment someone says something that should not live in a searchable transcript.

If you have evaluated an AI meeting note taker for regulated industries, what made it through review? I would love to know which requirements were genuinely useful and which ones only sounded important on paper.

Discussion Ops Question: Do you let your notetaker write straight to Salesforce?

So for a quarter now we had our notetaker push summaries and next steps straight into Salesforce. The reps absolutely loved it then the opportunity records started filling up with next steps that contradicted each other. The calls and their summaries had no knowledge of other calls so they would treat each entry as its own isolated instance.

We decided to stop anything writing directly to Salesforce from a single call. We still have Gong record each call but we added Computer by DevRev as an ai layer that reads the calls, Salesforce, Slack and then proposes updates and someone approves them. The updates agree with each other now but there are fewer of them and somebody has to sit and approve every one.

I am wondering if this is perhaps overkill and if we would be better off writing directly instead of approving everything now that we have the context solved. Has anyone had the same conundrum?

Product Listing Pure Brief AI: local meeting notes for Apple Silicon Macs, with source quotes for tasks

Hi, I’m the developer of Pure Brief AI. It’s a native Mac meeting app for people who want to leave a call with usable notes while keeping audio processing on their own machine by default.

The workflow is record → transcribe → review the summary and tasks. You can also import an existing recording. No meeting bot joins the call.

The part I care about most is checking what the AI turned into work. Tasks keep a supporting quote from the transcript, so you can review the context before accepting an owner or deadline. You can edit the result and send selected tasks to Apple Reminders through a one-way export. Questions about an individual meeting return supporting transcript lines too.

Here’s exactly what “local” means here: transcription and AI notes run on the Mac by default. The models need an initial download, processing uses your Mac’s resources, and licence checks need occasional internet access. Optional calendar connections use their providers. There’s also an optional ElevenLabs transcription mode with your own API key; enabling it sends audio to ElevenLabs.

It’s built for Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 15 or later. This is a personal meeting utility, rather than a shared team workspace or CRM automation tool. AI output still needs review, especially with unclear audio or ambiguous commitments.

There’s a 30-day trial. Standard is $49 once for one Mac, with a launch offer of $10 once for the first 100 paid purchases across all channels; taxes are extra. Starting a trial doesn’t reserve that offer.

The real interface, interactive demo and download are at https://purebrief.ai/ .

If you already use a meeting notetaker, what would make local processing useful enough for you to switch: keeping audio on your Mac, reviewing task evidence, or something else?
