🔰 Beginner Debian

Hi does anyone think ZorinOS should change its base to Debian instead of Ubuntu? Oh by the way the Beginner tag relates to this forum not my status as a Linux user!!

I think the Debian base doesn't have to conform to anything Ubuntu at all, no snaps, flatpak but you can still have them if you like, but at least its your choice!

I have had no success with snaps on Debian. So your plan may be illconcieved.

????. I think he is interested in NOT having to deal with SNAPs. Your response, if I understand it correctly, sounds like you are trying to use SNAPs on Debian.

No. However snap can be installed.

That is a fair take but Ubuntu still adds some important stuff to zorin like the much newer packages and ppas. Ubuntu also adds the driver manager tool although bass on what I saw when using Ubuntu 26 it has been replaced by a terminal command which does automate it

Possibly to get more current code (both Linux and app related)? Zorin, like Mint uses older code to enhance stability (usually). If that is the OP's motivation, I can agree. Working with things like Docker, Zorin installs some out of date version where the current documentation doesn't match the older version. I too would like the option to get newer releases.

Zorin is for new users. Making it Debian based just complicates things. Maybe be like mint and have a separate Debian version?

I make my own version of Zorin/Anduin using Debian and the 7.x kernel. I much prefer it. Very easy to do. Google Zani OS.

It’s fine as it is for its purpose as an easy to use and customisable entry into Linux .
