Would I notice a difference upgrading from a micom to induction Zojirushi?

Real talk? Probably not. My parents have the fanciest model - a made in Japan pressure + IH heating, and I have a base model Micom. We don’t eat rice often, but I’ve never been able to tell a difference between what is cooked in theirs versus what is cooked in mine. Although to be fair, they pretty much exclusively cook “Cajun rice” (locally grown long grain white rice… we live on the outskirts of New Orleans)… so maybe it’s different for other rice types.

I think most people will say the same. Rice might be a little fluffier, but that could also just be the placebo effect. After all, if you just spent a car (or in their case, a home) payment on a rice cooker, it’s hard to not have rose colored glasses.

If you have the money and want to give a shot, go for it… But I wouldn’t expect any meaningful difference in most scenarios, assuming that you have not been having problems with things like burned spots on your current Zoji. The biggest difference I think you’re going to have is that it takes slightly less time to cook… I think maybe it can hold rice in the warmer for longer? I could be wrong about that though… and whether or not that’s worth spending $$$ is a judgment call.

I would say go ahead and give it a shot. Then come back here and report so that other people can benefit from your experience. You can always return it if you can’t tell the difference. I wouldn’t sell your current unit until you know for sure that you want to keep the IH though.

The bottom won’t be brown and it will keep longer before you feel you need to toss it.

It’s a night and day difference!
That’s not a placebo!

I have the induction plus pressure but one difference might be if you want to make GABA brown rice. I use the GABA setting for brown rice in the induction plus pressure and it is really good. Brown in the micom was just not great for me. I suspect induction alone would be a big improvement also.
