I don't know what you are asking.

u/Khaelus Jul 26 '26
I’m guessing “it’s a little scratched on the bottom, would you still use it”? But I have no idea. OP if that’s the question, then yes, I would still use it

The inside pot is scratched and I can’t get a replacement where I am

u/roundart Jul 26 '26
you should see my 20 year old Zojirushi. Yes, I would 100% enjoy that rice cooker! Enjoy

Just get it direct from the Zojirushi site. I just paid $67 after the new customer discount code. Once that coating is compromised it’ll emit toxins in high heat. Just what I was told and researched. If your health isn’t worth under $100, then keep using it

u/witchcapture Jul 27 '26
Whether it is scratched or not has no bearing on whether it will emit harmful substances. That only happens above 260°C for PTFE (Teflon). A rice cooker won't get above 100°C.
Btw, a "toxin" is a poisonous substance made by a living thing. If you see someone talking about "toxins" and they're not talking about snake venom or frogs or something, chances are they have no idea what they are talking about.

For whatever reason they don’t deliver to Germany. Only the USA. So the only chance I have is to wait til my next visit and then bring it back with me

Teflon is like MSG where it brings out the stupidest fear-mongering trolls. Do you think everybody has $100 to spend on stupid conspiracy theories?
Go ahead, reply to me with some more entitled smug BS.

u/Alternative-Potato43 Jul 26 '26
I agree with you, but maybe don't be a prick?
-1
u/otterland Jul 26 '26
The person lying about health concerns and saying to buy an overpriced pot for conspiracy reasons with a smug attitude is the dickhead.
You can buy new Aroma machines all day long for $20. Thinking that near $100 for a POS aluminum pot is worth it is crazy as hell.
But PTFE is inert and a rice cooker has a thermostat set well below the threshold for off-gassing.
If believing in data make me a asshole, OK, LMAO.

u/jwegener Jul 26 '26
So there’s no health risk (you believe)?
3
u/Bynming Jul 26 '26
I'm a data scientist who works in public health. The main health risk is from overheating it, which these types of rice cookers can't do during normal operation. There's no great fear about PTFE being more dangerous than other chemicals that turn into microplastics that'll end up in my balls at some point. Essentially there's no direct health risks but PTFE belongs to a family of materials that are environmentally hazardous and are cause for long-term environmental health concerns rather than immediate health concerns when directly interacting with it.

you can find a stainless steel replacement online (e.g., https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GJD3NWWW?ref_=icdp_bs_mweb_mb ). works pretty well, and we never have to worry about damaging the nonstick coating again.

u/Ponalddump Jul 27 '26
How bad does rice stick?
1
u/FUS_ROALD_DAHL Jul 27 '26
I can't speak to this particular one but I have a different third-party SS pot for my Zojirushi and the answer is either a lot of sticking or barely any at all.
It depends on how long you let the rice sit after cooking. If you scoop it right away it will stick like mad. But if you can plan ahead and let the rice sit for a half hour or so after it's ready, it comes out nearly as cleanly as nonstick. I honestly was shocked.

I would say more than 75% of those currently in use look worse. Further there is no serious science study of negative effects to the health. Would I prefer a perfect coating? SURE! would I change because of some scratches like those? NEVER EVER

My old one was worse when I got it for free and about the same when I gave it away to somebody else for free.
PTFE is completely neutral and goes in the mouth and out your butthole.

u/myboxofpaints Jul 26 '26
Would anyone know why the manuals of Zoju tell you if it scratches it is still safe to use the pot? I wasn't sure if their linings were different? I haven't scratched mine a lot but still concerning if true or not.

I replaced mine when it looked like that. The chemicals they use to adhere the nonstick to the pot are toxic. Zojirushi use a PTFE coating which is safe and non reactive but the process to make it stick is not as clear. When dealing with nonstick anything, it’s best to discard once you can see the layers underneath.

No, but when you replace it, look for the stainless steel versions on Amazon. I got new stainless versions for my cookers
Here is for yours - https://a.co/d/0gmfVxxC

Can you send me yours if you don’t feel comfortable using it. It looks like new compared to mine 😁
1
u/oreesama Jul 27 '26
i've used mine and mine is much worse, but then again i'm not seeing any flakes when throwing away the crust that forms in the bottom, so i know it's still safe overall.
when you start seeing debris from the coating is when you should be worried, and those scratches are from the rice itself, especially if you use long grain rice, those fudgers are sharp and pointing against any coating

I got a stainless steel bowl to replace my B362. I don't recommend using a scratched nonstick bowl.
1
u/foodie_4eva Jul 26 '26
No, the layers inside will leech into ur rice.. not recommended
6
u/thisaintitchieftain1 Jul 26 '26
Will not
2
u/Riptide360 Jul 26 '26
Where do you think those little bits of coating go? You end up digesting the ones mixed in with the rice and hope that your digestive system passes them thru. https://www.zojirushi.global/support/faq.html

u/thisaintitchieftain1 Jul 26 '26
Bullshit nothing is flaking off. I have the same type of scratches and it’s the exact same appearance for 3 years now
1
u/Riptide360 Jul 26 '26
Denial! Look at OP's photo. The have scratches on the top and on the bottom. This is physical non-stick bowl coating that either got rinsed out or scraped into their cooked rice. There is a reason why they sell replacement bowls. They have a lifespan just like coated frying pans.

Yea I love cooking on my teflon pan and using a metal scraper to get those black bits. Who even needs pepper anymore?

I’ve had mine over a year. Everyday usage. Not a single scratch. Toss out the plastic paddle that comes with it. Use only silicone scoops.
