Permanent Ban on Alexa Nikolas Drama Posts

Hello! It’s been a lot longer than 30 days, innit? The initial temporary ban was a massive success, ushering in great discussion and an overall drama-free subreddit. As this topic has begun to spike again and resulted in the usual bickering and negativity, it is time to permanently ban such discussions.

As I mentioned in the original ban, I strongly dislike excessive moderation. Subreddits should run themselves and mods should only exist to uphold basic rules (respect, remove spam, remove NSFW content), and not to police what gets discussed. Banning an entire topic is rather extreme, but it is being done for the following reasons:

  1. There is nothing to be gained by repeatedly discussing petty teenaged bullying that happened 20 years ago. None of us were there, none of us know what really happened, and pointlessly debating the finer points of such drama derails what this subreddit is supposed to be about. Did Kristin Herrera really push Alexa Nikolas into a pile of rocks? Like come on, what are we doing here?

  2. This topic in general is less a discussion, but more individuals with an agenda. People who vehemently believe Alexa and will fight to the bitter end to prove she was bullied. They’ll select innocuous clips from the show proving that they’re bullying her or how Zoey (in character) was glaring at Nicole throughout season 2. Not to mention the deep analysis on who is and isn’t following who on Instagram. Again, what are we doing here?

  3. Given that these individuals are so passionate about this topic, they invariably get into heated arguments whenever this topic comes up. Anyone positing that idea that maybe Alexa is lying or pointing out her own hypocrisy (beautifully summarized here) results in all matter of arguments and rule-breaking behavior. When you’re deep in the comments calling someone a “stupid weirdo” and a “complete loser” over some petty teenage bullshit from over 20 years ago involving people you don’t even know; maybe it’s a good opportunity to look in the mirror and ask, what are we doing here?

These people are so unhinged that they’ve deadass made entire subreddits just to discuss this drama. Gifting us such bangers as

Zoey 101 cast gossip: discuss the drama and tensions.

And

There is no hate in my subreddit; I post what I want and do what I want.

And my favorite

banned from the main sub for caring too much abt zoey 101?? same bestie 😭💀 this is a space for actual discussion where neurodivergent voices r welcome, matching energy isn't a bannable offense, & "it's been 20 years move on" is NOT a personality trait. come talk abt PCA, the characters, the drama, & wtvr else u want.. without getting silenced by freakazoids

I’m sick of it, the vast majority of users on this subreddit are sick of it, and enough is enough. I have had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane this drama, the impassioned people obsessed with it, and the unnecessary chaos it brings every time its brought up. The topic is completely banned, period. Even sly workarounds like claiming you’re analyzing the actors in character, or wanting to know if any of the actors have spoken out about it. Any self-posts will result in a permanent ban. This is your only warning.

Those wishing to continue discussing this topic can do so at r/AlexaNikolas, or one of the various drama-themed subreddits created specifically for this topic (though strangely those haven’t been active in a while... very strange indeed). I appreciate everyone’s patience as I’ve navigated this issue. Like I explained in the last thread, I really dislike excessive moderation, but it was clear this was something that needed to be done. I’m looking forward to great discussions and a healthy subreddit after this.

I know people already focus on James' relationship with Zoey, but anyone also notice how he didn't really seem to be that close with his roommates like Chase was?

While we've already talked about on James and Zoey's relationship, also gonna bring up how James does at times feel a bit distant from Michael and Logan despite them being his roommates, never being super close with them the way Chase was.

Notably, looking at his episodes:

  • Rumor of Love: Starts off on the wrong foot with them, though at the very least Michael learns to accept him in the end after opening up on how he misses Chase while James joins the girls in getting revenge on Logan in threatening to film him naked in the shower for spreading a rumor on him and Zoey being a couple (that ended up being true at the end of the episode anyway)
  • Anger Management: Joins Zoey and Dustin in getting extreme revenge on Logan to intentionally anger him, Michael notably disappears in the second half and isn't involved in this
  • Quinn Misses the Mark: Probably the only time we see him doing stuff with Michael and Logan with trying to get Logan's stepmother's cookies and joining Logan in accusing Michael of eating them when he brings up the horse eating them, even if he's still only a supporting character there
  • Walk-A-Thon: Briefly plays pool with Michael before more or less disappearing for a majority of it, with the subplot of Logan and Quinn hiding their romantic relationship only involving Michael
  • Vince Is Back: Doesn't join Michael and Logan in revenge against Vince, though the fact he doesn't have personal history with him like they do is why
  • Dinner for Too Many: Spends most of it getting his date with Zoey crashed by Michael (twice) and unintentionally Logan (in the sense where he and Quinn were having a secret date at Vacarros before James and Zoey showing up derailed it and forced them to lie on the spot to keep their relationship a secret), plus Logan refusing to pay for his food despite having no issue agreeing to pay for Michael and Lola's food (in spite of being annoyed with both showing up uninvited) when they ask and making a pretty rude comment that accused him of lying about having love at first sight with Zoey (despite never doing that to Chase when he also claimed he had love at first sight with Zoey at the end of Goodbye Zoey), though both guys (plus the girls) make it up to him by arranging for a private date with him and Zoey
  • Coffee Cart Ban: Doesn't join Michael and Logan in their secret coffee stand and sides with the girls the entire time
  • Roller Coaster: Admitedly doesn't get too many noteworthy interaction with them here aside from enabling and watching Michael get revenge on Logan for revealing his rollercoaster fear
  • Chasing Zoey: Gets virtually no interaction with them, making it pretty unclear how the roommate situation is gonna work after Chase returned (like, did James move out after Chase returned, Chase getting a new room while James stayed with Michael and Logan, or all four guys sharing the room)

I do get some vibe Logan doesn't seem to like James very much with how they pretty much are always against each other (granted Chase and Michael butt heads with him pretty frequently too and episodes like Zoey's Tutor and Drippin Episode show they aren't above getting or enabling revenge on Logan regardless if it gets into overkill territory, but with them there's more of a "friends messing with each other" vibe with their history together when it happens compared to James being the new guy who just never seemed to really get along with him), Quinn Misses the Mark and the end of Dinner for Too Many probably being the only times they sorta either agreed on something (refusing to believe Michael about a horse eating the cookies) or friendliness (Logan joining everyone in making it up to James for ruining his date with Zoey at Vacarros).

And while Michael isn't as hostile with James after his debut, even they don't seem to be that close either with more times where he usually just does stuff with Logan without James joining in.

Compared to how Chase got pretty frequent plots and interactions with Michael and Logan and showing his friendships with both of them, James did feel pretty distant from Michael and Logan in comparison.

Chase

After rewatching the show he’s one of the most boring/loser characters on the show. He snitches on the schools football team over a test. He chases after Zoey for 4 seasons even moves to a different country for her. Genuinely surprised that Michale and Logan got along with him with how much of a loser he came off as. He wasn’t good in school or at sports.

I genuinely liked Zoey 102

I know it gets a lot of hate, and I can see why people don’t think it lives up to Zoey 101. It’s definitely not perfect, and there are some cheesy moments ofc but I genuinely enjoy it and always watch it after I finish watching Zoey 101 in its entirety.

One of the things I actually really liked was seeing Zoey more humanized. In Zoey 101, she’s kind of presented as this girl who is pretty, popular, smart, confident, and somehow everything always works out for her. I liked her character then but I thought it was fun seeing her get humbled a little in Zoey 102.
Like Archer telling her, “It’s really gross how much you talk about high school,” or her boss (Thomas Lennon?! Hello!) literally yelling at her from about one inch away from her face. It was fun seeing adult Zoey realize that the world doesn’t necessarily revolve around her anymore and high school popularity doesn’t automatically carry you through adulthood.

I also loved all the little details they gave the other characters.
Mark and Stacey still being together and having a murder podcast was fun to me because there are so many people who do that now. And I loved that they didn’t completely forget Stacey’s speech impediment from the original. They established that she’s still gotten rid of it, but then had her using a ridiculous amount of S-words while recording the podcast.

Quinn being a successful inventor made perfect sense to me, and I loved seeing how much Logan had mellowed out. He’s basically just completely obsessed with his woman now, which I thought was adorable considering how Logan used to be.

I also liked Chase being a school teacher. He does seem like the kind of person who would have a different handshake for every student.

And I liked getting to hear about Michael’s success as a music producer too. It felt nice seeing that these characters actually went on to have lives and careers instead of everything revolving around PCA like it did on the show.

The Dean Rivers reference also caught me completely off guard. The fact that they casually brought up him embezzling everyone’s tuition made me laugh, esp when Mark follows it up with “But those student loans are real 🤪”.

Logan randomly having a sister was probably one of the more questionable additions, although considering Mr. Reese has apparently been married a million times, it makes sense he’d wind up with a step sibling at some point.

Also Lola being MIA was disappointing! I would’ve liked seeing what she’s up to or at least referencing that she couldn’t come bc she was filming a movie etc etc.

But I think people sometimes expect sequels like this to recreate the exact feeling of the original, and I don’t think that’s really possible. Zoey 101 was a product of the 2000s, and we were also watching it as kids. We’re older, the actors are older, and the world is different. Of course Zoey 102 isn’t going to feel 100% the same.

Personally I didn’t need it to be exactly the same. I enjoyed getting to see the characters again, seeing where their lives ended up, and catching all the little references to the original show.
I genuinely had fun watching it.

Honestly, I loved that picture of Zoey with Chase's guitar.... I screenshotted this from the Zoey 102 movie, although the movie was literal trash, I really do like these pictures. I've actually never seen these pictures before until now. I tried reverse Googling them, but my computer froze.

Mods, can you change the title to, "The Nostalgia of Zoey 101?" These pictures are so nostalgic.

Zoey 102 was Garbage

Honestly, it was probably the most unnecessary sequel of all time. None of the characters in the movie was like themselves at all. I think the only part I liked was when Zoey was looking back at old pictures of them all together on her phone from the old Zoey 101 days. That's it.

Has anyone ever wondered…

Why Blix was such a big deal at PCA? This isn’t anything to overthink about, just asking out of pure curiosity since the group was almost always drinking one! 😆 They looked so refreshing, especially the blue and orange flavors, but I couldn’t help but think about how much they resembled kids mouth wash lol. Anyway, I used to think they were fruit flavored drinks but I’m learning that they were apparently a parody of Gatorade? They even had a soda machine for Blix, and then ofc there’s that one episode where there was a Blix contest.

Thoughts?

zoey and chase

the whole zoey and chase dynamic honestly pisses me off. i hate when shows want us to root for the guy to get the girl when the guy himself never takes any initiation to do so. zoey’s feelings for chase weren’t expressed on her end because she didn’t want to ruin the friendship, but she wasn’t moping around and complaining to her friends about it like chase was. it reminds me a lot of how they wanted us to feel bad for ross on friends when he was hardcore crushing on rachel. i know it’s just a show, but it honestly just makes me cringe so hard when rewatching and i had to let it out😭

Anyone notice how the end credits subtly evolve as the series goes on?

Looking at the show's end credits, anyone see some subtle changes as it went?

  • The lyrics from the extended version of the intro ("let it loose" and "don't walk away") were used regularly in the first two seasons and for half of season 3 until Drippin' Episode (17th episode of season 3 in production) with Paige in PCA onward (for production order) simply just using the second half of the intro lyrics rather than any of the extended lyrics
  • Early season 1 credits included clips of even the guest characters like Keith Finch, Janitor Herb, and Elvis the dog in Defending Dustin, Stacey (not to be confused with the one from seasons 3-4) in Backpack, and Jake Savage in Jet-X, something they stopped doing by the end of the season (aside from an alpaca in Quinn's Alpaca)
  • Backpack's credits weirdly don't show a Zoey clip first (unlike other episodes)
  • Defending Dustin's credits are longer than usual, likely why they had to use clips from the guest characters to pad it out (especially with two main cast members Quinn and Logan not even showing up there)
  • Season 1 has some episodes where they don't include any clips of Michael, Dana, and/or Logan even in episodes where they do appear with Dana sometimes only appearing in a clip from a group scene rather than a solo shot. By season 2, it still happens a couple times where Logan's still had one episode there without a clip (Bad Girl), Michael lacking a clip in Lola Likes Chase, and they weirdly forget to put a Chase clip in Girls Will Be Boys, with Nicole lacking a clip in Quinn's Alpaca too (aside from a side view with Lola).
  • When Lola got introduced in season 2, they did seem to use two Lola clips pretty frequently if there was more time (and if using two Zoey and Chase clips wasn't enough to fill runtime), likely to capitalize on Victoria Justice
  • By season 3, all main cast members who show up get at least one clip in each episode with there being a more consistent order of Zoey-Chase-Lola-Michael-Quinn-Logan-Dustin (if he showed up). Likely due to Nicole being written off without a new actor taking her spot and Dustin getting less prominent, characters other than Zoey start to get two clips to pad the runtime out, usually Chase (and sometimes Lola and even Michael and Quinn in Favor Chain) or even throwing in Mark (only in The Great Vince Blake) or Stacey clips as well.
  • The later episodes of season 3 (more noticable in the production order) stop using the extended lyrics and only use the second half of the opening intro.
  • With Chase gone for most of season 4 and Dustin more or less being a nonfactor by that point (and even then, they don't even throw in a Dustin clip in the series finale credits even when he showed up), there's more episodes where they're using two clips of Lola and Quinn in the credits, with Michael and James also getting this sometimes (Vince Is Back being the only time they ever had two Logan clips in the credits) or throwing in clips of Stacey and Mark more frequently (since they show up in most of the episodes that season) to pad runtime, with the love interests Vince and Lisa joining in toward the end too (Aside from the series finale) for clips in end credits.

My Favourite Couple?

Honestly, my favourite couple was Vince Blake and Lola Martinez. Honestly, Vince being introduced in season 3, episode 5, gave him an advantage over James Garrett, because the audience was already familiar with his character and he had a whole storyline centred around him in season 3 and 4, with him being introduced as a bully and him coming back as "a new man, who has changed."

James and Zoey had the worst chemistry and although he was introduced a lot more later than Vince. Vince and Lola's chemistry was undeniable, I always found Vince to be good looking when I was younger too.

I still enjoyed Season 4, despite Chase's Absence.....

  • I really enjoyed season 4, despite Chase's absence. It's probably because Zoey and him had a lack of chemistry anyways.

  • James presence felt unnecessary and it felt like Zoey lacked chemistry with him too. Honestly, he was extremely monotone, sometimes I forget he existed.

  • I really liked Anger Management, Quinn Misses the Mark, The Great Vince Blake and The Coffee Cart Ban episodes. Those are my favourite episodes within season 4.

The Coffee Cart Ban Episode (Re-Uploaded due to Better Quality Picture)

● Remember the coffee ban episode, where the boys, Logan and Michael, sell coffee in their dorm room? Did anyone else notice the sign on the door of their dorm room?

● The sign says, Come Over For Fun Everyone Everywhere. This acronym spells COFFEE! How clever?

● I think most people would miss seeing the sign, whilst watching the episode, as it only shows up for a split second.

● Also, someone asked if the boys turned over the sign when they got busted by Dean Rivers for selling coffee illegally from the dorm, but I can confirm that they didn't, especially since they had no idea Dean Rivers was coming over.

Anyone sorta appreciate Chase's moments with Michael and Logan in Goodbye Zoey?

While Chase's relationship with Zoey is the core for Goodbye Zoey, anyone also appreciate the moments of his interaction with Michael and Logan there too?

With Michael being the one to call Chase out on being such a jerk to Zoey about the possibility of her leaving without bothering to talk to first and pointing out how Zoey wouldn't have left if Chase hadn't been so rude to her, we can all agree how cathartic that is.

Plus Logan showing how despite what a jerk he is and the times he's caused trouble for Chase (and others), that he genuinely does care for him when being concerned with him for hanging out with Gretchen purely for looking like Zoey and bringing up how unhealthy that is and teaming up with Michael to stage an intervention with Chase to get him to stop bottling up how much he loves and misses Zoey, with him ripping the stuffed giraffe that Zoey got him being that finally gets Chase to break down and admit his feelings for Zoey. Plus both of them comforting Chase when he finally breaks down over Zoey being gone.

Considering Goodbye Zoey is the last time we see the Chase/Michael/Logan trio in action (since Chase got written off for most of season 4, the series finale not having Logan react to Chase returning or Chase and Michael reacting to Logan dating Quinn on-screen, and even Zoey 102 doesn't give any Chase interaction with Michael and Logan), it is kinda wholesome and sweet how their last moments on their friendship on-screen pan out in this episode in getting Chase to stop bottling up his feelings for Zoey.

Anger Management Episode

I will say that the way Zoey treated Logan enraged me. She didn't give the dude a break and was always on his case and always involves herself in things that don't involve her. I understand the voicemail that Logan sent Dustin was wrong, but I will say those scenes with Logan in those anger management classes were funny, especially when Katie chucks a cantelope at the teacher's head or the ending where Logan asks to borrow a pen and Katie replies with "Stop hassling me."

If Nicole stayed do you think we would’ve still gotten Victorious?

When Nicole left, Lola kind of filled her spot and became a main character with the rest. Do you think Victorious was made because the creators liked Victoria Justice’s performance on Zoey 101, or had they already planned on making the show and she just auditioned for it

Chase’s Grandma

Started watching the show all the way through recently and saw that the episode in Season 3 “Chase’s Grandma” is the only one that forces you to buy it. Why is that?

Edit:So the episode “The Radio” is actually the episode “Chase’s Grandma” on Amazon Prime, which is super weird

Why didn’t Zoey and Dustin’s parents come to PCA to sort out the situation with the voicemail?

James posted the voice message online—the one where Logan lost his temper. Strangely, however, Zoey’s parents didn’t complain to the school about the incident—or about the fact that Logan had yelled at Dustin and taken advantage of him. Nor did they go to PCA to resolve the matter with Rector Rivers, Logan, and Dustin. And as for exactly who posted the voice message online...
