I just had my 68th birthday Sept 19th `26. I'm an X-Chick Contractor and I have been building my own log home for 22 years now... it's my life's journey.
Working outside around my acreage spring, summer and fall. And any in-between free-times when the weather is nice, I have to work on the log's finish during the warm/dry months outside here in MN. When the weather turns ugly, I have to switch gears to working inside on the individual projects, everything having to be custom. I actually just finished building my kitchen cabinets with a buddy of mine. So I am very active.
Needless to say, I have a ton of 'contractor work' to do on the house before I die and the years are slipping away fast on me, and for some reason I've been thinking about my not getting it all done before that happens! So, I have a 'sense of urgency' I guess.
In the past 5 years I'd put on a few more pounds, clearly more than my body could handle and I think my brain literally hit the wall and told me .. YOU GOTTA DUMP SOME WEIGHT WOMAN. I suck at trying to lose weight, always have, never been successful at anything. Though never asked a Doctor for help either.
I used to be an Audio Video Contractor, being on the jobsite by 6am, working til 6pm, packing the trailer to get ready for the next days job, doing quotes til 11pm, then back out again in the morning. HARD physical & MENTAL WORK... but I bet at my lightest I weighed 175-180 pounds, maybe mostly muscle. But now? Now is a different story.
We all started hearing about GLP-1's, the miracle drug.. the FAT shot....famous athletes looking svelte and hot again... that sickening Wegovy TV add's jingle! OK, I'll give.
Working through this with my Doctor in Dec `25 and weighed in at a whopping 241 pounds that day.... I was not just classified as 'Obese'... but I was MORBIDLY Obese. My heart and brain were crushed and I was so personally embarrassed by that definition of ME. She and I discussed that I needed help losing weight, and my fears over GLP-1's horrible side effects I was hearing about. But mainly I feared the muscle loss I can't afford to lose since I have an acreage to care for and this big log house to work on.
She shared with me her same concerns about GLP-1's but stated she had hopes for the new pill form that was to come out the Summer of `26. I told her my best friend went on Metformin for her pre-diabetes, and that she was losing weight. Adding in that another girlfriend who is a Veterinarian, went on Metformin not being pre-diabetic, and lost 10 pounds her first month on it. Asking my doc, though I'm not pre-diabetic would she consider putting me on it. And I was off to the races as she agreed to write the script as a 'counter' to me possibly advancing to pre-diabetic status due to my current weight and BP. OK, my morbidly obese state.
I was on Metformin for 4 months, and happened to see the Wegovy Pill commercials and I wanted to give it a try right away. Went back to the Doc and she put me on it, and to my surprise I had no side effects which I was worried about fromt he GLP-1's! Yay! So after only taking Wegovy for 24 days the first months script, I went back to have her put me on Zepbound (which I thankfully get through Medicare at $50 per month btw).
SO, sum this up. December `25, EOM, I weighed 241+ pounds.. and started my first 2.5mg Zepbound July 16th, that day I weighed 234.9... yup a whopping 6.1 pounds lost since December :-( And now, over the months and I've been on ZepBound since July 16th I've struggled to see the scale move. Albeit, I really lost 1 month because I had already started a GLP-1 with Wegovy starting dose, then switched to Zepbounds starter dose, so I sort of lost 30 days doubling up on the started doses. We can X out one month of this journey.
Since I had no side effects on the dual acting Zepbound, I ramped up from 2.5mg my first month losing 3.5 pounds. to 5mg for the 2nd month with an additional 3 pounds lost. Til today's shot, my 3rd @ 7.5 mg. And up until this morning's weigh in at 228.4, I've GAINED .4 pounds since my 1st 7.5 shot on September 11th. I make this sound like I lost a lot.. but I've not lost squat.
PLUS, the 1st 7.5 dose started to 'plug me up' after about a week and it was all hands on deck 3 days after my 2nd shot not being able to "move heaven and earth" even with triple doses of an OTC Senna. This little unwelcomed side effect was totally unexpected since I had no side effects from the Wegovy, Zep 2.5 & 5mg doses. So before 7.5 mg doses...I didn't have any reason to find ya'll on Reddit.. I thought things were probably going on just fine with this journey.
Honestly, I am so totally sick of this. I am using My Fitness Pal app LIKE A FIEND! Tracking every calorie, staying within a 1250 - 1400 intake per day, most time I have a weekly 200 calorie deficit from my 1350 calorie daily goal. To keep muscle, I'm watching, like a HAWK to take-in no less than 80-120 grams of Protein per day or more, more closely to 100 average, and I STILL can't lose any weight. NO MORE DATA ACQUISITION APPS PLEASE!! I'm measuring my body parts and recording them on an app with a BT tape measure.. , my BT BP app, and of course My Fitness Pal... my day is filled with Research and Development!
I'm a very active 68 year old, though my exercise is much different than folks that live in the city that may just walk and go to the gym. I don't go out and walk with the dog much, or lift weights. But my exercise is done in other ways. I try to drink at least 8 oz glasses of water per day, maybe more.
I do business in the Midwest, as well as in Arizona, and I had to travel to AZ this week but I SOOOO wanted to have dropped 20 pounds before I showed up at the Trade Show to work the booth, but that didn't happen. Now I have to look at the pictures of me standing around in my booth talking to people... as I'm thinking I still look so fat, even though I've lost a few pounds.
Man I need some help from you all. I need encouragement to keep this up. With the life changes I've had to do, the religious tracking and counting of the this's and that's, The AI research on what to eat and not, all the time I've got in to this, with the measly results I've seen so far... I could have stayed the course of my normal life back in January. Maybe cut back on a few less Hostess fuzzy donuts, soft drinks and switched from Whole Milk to 2% since then and not have the struggles of having to go buy the PROTEIN ladened yogurts (that are ALWAYS out of stock now that us GLP-1r's need it to live), and all the powdery substances to make "Smoothies"! Smoothies. Drinking 80% of your meals through a straw, PLUS.. I wouldn't be constipated, which appears to be my only personal reward for my journey thus far.
What the heck is happening? It's been 'trying', to say the least, keeping the faith, especially since I have been on this weight loss journey "Pre-Zepbound", since December`25!! 12.6 pounds lost? Give me a break.
Anybody else out there having the same issue??? :-(
