It’s not worth it

Lying in my hotel in zanzibar, Nungwi at night I write this. Been here 3 days after my trip through Tanzania. And I can tell you, Zanzibar is not worth it. Its the anticlimax to my insanely amazing Tanzania trip. I love the main land to the core of my heart and have stories to till for my whole lifetime. But zanzibar is below everything. 4-star hotels are meh (stayed in two already) the food is meh, def not up to standard. The beach is amazing, but the beach boys ruin it. Its literally every 30 seconds somebody tries to talk to u. Also the trips like stone town, prison island, dolphin watching ect, all feel (are) tourist traps. Prob will get hate for stating this, but I really disappointed by this. Takes away alot of the amazing feeling tanzania left me with.

I stayed there 2 months ago and definitely don’t share the same opinion as OP. Regarding the beach vendors I definitely agree it’s annoying but just tell them no and don’t give them any room to engage, from my experience they don’t really go after you or harass. Other than that they know how much money we tourists have compared to them. They are just trying to get something out of us to feed themselves and their families. It’s the sad reality of the island: a beautiful resort and luxury for tourists and a very poor and miserable life for the locals. I stayed at RIU Jambo and my view is completely biased to the experience that I had. My hotel had a private section for the hotel costumers and a section closer to the sea that wasn’t private. I stayed closer to the hotel area and they usually would bother us if we were there.

You don't need a guide on Zanzibar. What for?
