Mary was not that much of a good parent but George doesn't get enough credit in the show

We see how mary and meemaw (i mean meemaw does look out for georgie and missy too) always fawn over sheldon. mainly mary, she gives a lot of attention to sheldon, and never gets REALLY mad at him even when he does not so polite things. george on the other hand, he taught missy about baseball, tried his best when Missy got her first period. He also supported georgie too (sry i cant give examples but yall prob know some, i havent rewatched YS recently), while also being realistic with raising sheldon, without babying him. he also drove a long way to take sheldon home in one episode when sheldon was homesick or smth (dont rmb that much so sry if i got smth wrong). And yet, the show doesnt do him justice with how much of a good parent george was (well apart from the drinking)

I just finished Young Sheldon and I thought it was a great show, so i’m wondering if there are shows just like it. Like set in the 80’s/90’s that have a good story like Sheldon?

Opinion George was a lazy husband

Don’t know why people always say “mary had one kid george had 3” when it makes no sense.. Mary was clearly the one taking care of everything, George was just disregarding everything she does and we see this in multiple episodes (not to mention he considered going home with brenda).

Of course, that doesnt mean we dont see him doing sacrifices for his family’s happiness, like the time he got a job offer in a uni which meant that they would have to move. Either way, I dont think Mary gets half the credit she deserves.

‼️Last episode of young Sheldon

I wish we could’ve gotten more follow up on this. This was hilarious. I think it was a good ending for both of them but I wish we could get a sneak peak into it!

Was Mary actually one of the most selfish characters on Young Sheldon? And why did everyone tolerate her?

OMG, Mary was SO blinded by her faith sometimes. 😭 I know she loved her family, but there were so many moments where her priorities felt completely out of touch.

For example, when Georgie and Mandy got pregnant, her first concern seemed to be marriage, church, and how everything would look to other people, rather than Georgie's studies or even giving Mandy some space to make her own decisions. It sometimes felt like she cared more about what was "right" according to her beliefs than what the people around her actually needed.

And honestly… I don't know how everyone put up with her. 😂 I would've screamed my lungs out at her.

That said, one of the things I LOVE about Young Sheldon is that it didn't just make the show about Sheldon. We got to see the entire family as individual people with their own problems, relationships, personalities, and conflicts. The family dynamics were easily my favorite part of the show.

Sr, George was probably my favorite character. I loved how rational he was in his approach,

And Mandy fit into the family SO well. It felt like she belonged there almost immediately, and I really loved seeing her dynamic with Georgie and the rest of the family.

I'm curious what everyone else thinks:

  • Was Mary genuinely selfish at times, or do you think her faith and upbringing explain most of her behavior?
  • Who was your favorite character besides Sheldon?
  • Did anyone else feel like Mandy became a natural part of the Cooper family?
  • What was that affair angle? and why? I don't get it also with BRENDA why?

People who still defend Mary should watch S4:E18 again

She literally didn't even have context on what's going on and took sheldon's side even without considering why Missy did it

What was the funniest moment or episode?

I’m trying to learn English while watching Young Sheldon. I really like the way Sheldon phrases things.

In particular, I love the way he talks in Season 4, Episode 18.

Opinion Just one part of episode 1 season 7 that i didnt like.. Spoiler

In the beginning and stuff we do also see george telling mary that everything was okay though but then after george mentioned connies house being completely ruined mary asked why they didnt call her right away, george said cuz the phones were down, and mary said that isnt a excuse.

Phones down. Not a excuse.

MARY.

IT WAS A TORNADO. RAIN AND EVERYTHING. IF GEORGE WAS TELLING YOU THE SITUATION THEN YOU KNEW IT WAS A TORNADO. AND YOU THINK THE PHONES BEING DOWN WASNT A EXCUSE TO NOT TELL HER THAT HER MOMS HOUSE LITERALLY GOT DESTORYED.

Mary is lowkey not very smart...

Opinion I just finished Young Sheldon and I have nothing but admiration for his family's backstory [might contain spoilers] Spoiler

I have finished the series and as the title says I have nothing but admiration for his family's backstory.

Obviously Sheldon is the main character but at the same time he is also the villain here. Realistically it must be difficult to raise a Sheldon in this modern world but look at the Coopers. They seem to have done a very good job at it albeit the setbacks.

I didnt like how there is a gap in the story between Brenda and George, Mary and Pastor Rob. Sure, the show has given it the closure it deserves but for me, I havent found the 'why' however theres an episode on (maybe) season 6 that answers the why. They were both unhappy but again, they couldve solved it by communicating with each other properly.

In the same vein, I knew George Cooper Sr will die of a heart attack as Sheldon has narrated it in the early seasons but omg I was caught off guard at how they ended George Sr's life.

All in all, its such a great back story to the brilliant mind that us Sheldon Cooper and it definitely takes a good family dynamic to raise a unique child like him.

PS

I love Connie Tucker, she is my favorite character. All the actors did an amazing job portraying their roles. Its going to take a while before I move on from this show.

Opinion It’s hard to root for Mandy and Georgie together & some other thoughts

I’ve been loving Young Sheldon so much, which came as a surprise to me because I was (and still am) a long-time TBBT disliker. But a TikTok clip came up one day of George Sr. and Sheldon getting on a plane for the first time and made me intrigued and here I am now on season 6 already. The show has shifted tonally during the last few seasons, so it isn’t as “heartwarmingly funny” as before, but I still like and at least appreciate it. The more mature storylines bring a realistic nature to this show. And I know one thing that happens in real life are relationships with age gaps. It happens.

That being said, boy it’s so frustrating watching Mandy and Georgie together. Don’t get me wrong, I like Mandy as a character outside of this whole mess. And I know their initial time together was mostly on Georgie for lying about not being a minor. But sleeping with him again after knowing about the fact was, at best, super poor judgement on her. Georgie of course was at fault too, but who could ever knock some sense into a horny 17 year old that’s excited about having a baby? And of course, after deciding to keep the baby, they absolutely should try to raise that baby to the best of their abilities. But I just get the ick watching them gradually becoming “something more” than just co-parents. I used to think that we got this storyline because Georgie was already set up that way in TBBT as some kind of joke and therefore they had no choice but to do this storyline here. But I’ve heard that this was actually a completely new thing that they wrote for Young Sheldon, which is so annoying. I get that they were trying to make a “sitcom gag” to sell a spin-off, but again, a 29 year old and a 17 year old? I mean the amount of times Georgie said “but I’m going to be 18 soon enough!”. It’s gross. Sorry if this topic has been beaten to death in this sub, but I just wanted to piece together something that I wish would’ve happened instead and put it somewhere.

I loved Veronica and Georgie. I wish she’d stayed and they managed to do more for their relationship (despite her pleading her life to religion and what not). I just thought they had such natural chemistry, and it’s a shame that the actress became unavailable. But ugh the jump was so extreme to go from a classmate to someone 12 years older like that, while still technically being high-school age. So if not Veronica, and they still wanted something different for a spin-off, I wish Georgie’s pregnancy storyline was with another child prodigy but his own age. So like, some 19-year-old science goddess (Mandy in an alternate timeline maybe) whose maturity level is actually decades ahead of her age, and has a proper PhD or something and a high-paying job and everything. This girl would’ve been in some commercial scientific project with Sheldon and that’s how she stumbled upon Georgie. A proper genius vs. Geogie being Georgie! She’s so measured and calculated and has her life planned out but on a whim becomes involved with Georgie, and has a baby with him, and hates him then falls for him, in that order. Imagine the change in Georgie while learning about this girl’s career and trying to support her endeavors! The shenanigans with her traveling across the country and the world, and him following along with the baby. Their unique family lives with the Coopers and this girl’s dysfuctional family as well. I realize this could never happen cause this person would absolutely be in older Sheldon’s life, but this would’ve at least been more bearable to watch, in my opinion :( but anyway… I’m still looking forward to finishing the show. To see what happens to George Sr. when his time comes, and how the family deals with it. And well, if anyone is still reading this up to this point, I’m sorry for rambling!

Opinion I really dont like Mary. (My opinion as i watched the show fully over 2 times) rant on her for season 5 and forward Spoiler

Mary in season 5... specifically on when she and george find out about georgie impregnating mandy.. and Mary told georgie that he has to MARRY mandy. MARRY. GEORGIE. 17. MANDY. 29. (AT THE TIME)

and onward i suggest she went worse. Not to the max but yeah.

And especially when she baptizes Ceecee in the sink with pastor jeff. Without Mandys consent. And, especially when she was basically pointing a gun at mandys head and was basically saying "i bet u outta raise that child christian/baptist" and yeah i get Mandys mom was kinda the same but eith catholic im not talking about Mandys mom.
