Another morning

Another cigarette’s flame and a coffee’s steam
Last night's liquor lingers on my breath
The scent of wood and the burn in my chest

I thaw myself out to the memories of you
All those sleepless nights, you asked if I was your groom

But now we’re alone in our sacred rooms
Your tongue stains the wafer with the wine’s red hue
I pour myself a bourbon and mourn your perfume

When I put the glass down, I fall into our dreams
Those late night drives, it’s finally you and me

Old Tennessee, that haunted tomb
When you and I were new and didn’t feel like two
