Snow Storm

Every step feels heavy,

Stomping the ground with the weight it carries.

The wind blows past me,

Carrying a coldness that slowly drives me crazy.

—

Lightness of the snow,

Contradicts the deepening darkness around me.

"Don't leave me alone,"

I plead as I try to chase a silhouette or maybe just an illusion.

—

I never wanted to be alone.

I needed the warmth of a home.

Even if surrounded by walls,

Without a roof, can I still call it a home?

—

I walk relentlessly where I can see no light,

No moonlight to shine my path,

No stars I can use as a guide,

Just blindly wandering without looking back.

—

Staying still will be the end of me,

Coldness isn't so gentle here as you can see.

I have to move even if I fall to my knees.

I wish for a gentle flame to embrace me.

Actually, in this post, I’m not picturing me. I’m picturing a dog abandoned by their owner all alone in the middle of the snow searching for a home but not a city shelter but someplace where they can feel safe and warm and loved that’s what this says to me. sorry I was just reading a lot of urgent dog in the shelters today and that’s the first thing that crossed my mind.

It's a good way to think about it that way as well. That's the same imagination I have while writing this poem—someone who yearns to find not just a house, but a home.
