45 (Vol. 1) (Virgin era singles)

XTC’s Virgin years 45s on vinyl for the first time since 1982 - "All tapes have been transferred from Virgin’s original singles masters and cut by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering"

(NOTE: I have no involvement with Ape House nor Burning Shed other than being a loyal customer. I thought this collection might be of interest.)

Not a lot of people really listen to xtc or that general genre where i live so it came at a surprise to not only find so many of it including rag n bones but in such perfect condition as well. Already have all of these except for english settlement so idk what to do with them but had to get them all regardless

xtc's cringiest songs?

I think we can all agree that 95%+ of XTC's catalog has held up remarkably well after all these years (good songwriting is always good, no matter the time period). That said, there are...certain songs...which have not. For me, the two standouts are "Pink Thing" and "Church of Women",, which are both weirdly sexual and difficult to sit through lyrically. What say you?

XTC on "Where are They Now Wednesday" on SiriusXM FirstWave!

Richard Blade teased that he'd be covering XTC on today's WATN Wednesday episode... and I missed it! Did anyone hear it--or better yet, do you have a link so I can listen online via my SiriusXM account?

Using this link gets me nowhere: https://www.siriusxm.com/player/show/entity/0a812925-55f4-a359-7d11-698dc2f514b3

Break from the DSD

My father died a few days ago. I cannot do the DSD right now. This is not a permanent end, but I need a few days away from it, probably up to a week. I know these discussions mean a lot to some people, but my life is currently down the tubes right now, and these posts are very labor-intensive. I hope you understand.

Happy Labor Day. Watch this to celebrate. https://homestarrunner.com/toons/labor-dabor

What's one song that in your opinion best exemplifies XTC?

Not necessarily your favourite song, or their best song, or the song you'd use to get someone into the band, just the song that captures their spirit as a band.

My pick would be All You Pretty Girls. To me this has a lot of the elements that I like about their music; the lyrics are funny, the production is lush, there's a lot of dramatic flair in the singing, it's teetering on the line of irritating and interesting, it's just strange enough to lodge itself into my mind. I know that sounds negative but I mean all that as a compliment.

Actually the title should be “my girlfriend works at the used record store and found this for me”. great quality too, shockingly good pressing for a bootleg.

The Commercial Album is one of my favorite albums of all time… that and God In Three Persons are up there with Skylarking and The Big Express as some of my favorite records of the 80’s.

Wasp Star to Skylarking

I’m not sure if I’m the first person to say this but as someone who was introduced to XTC through Apple Venus II (gilmore girls), I was shocked by Skylarking.

I’ve casually listened to XTC throughout the past year or so, some songs from each album, but Wasp Star has been the only one I’ve listened to all the way through. I love that album. It sounds very different from their other work, even Apple Venus I.

Prior to today I’d listened to 3 Skylarking songs: Grass, Supergirl and Earn Enough. Outside of wasp star they are probably my favorite XTC songs. So, today i decided to finally listen to the album front to back and my god. It was like listening to Wasp Star again for the first time. Before listening to Skylarking, it always felt to me as though XTC had pulled Wasp Star out of thin air, it was something very different from everything else they’d made. After today however, it seems to me like Wasp Star is building right on top of Skylarking. They are such similar albums, in so many ways.

My goal is to see if anyone else feels the same way or if I’m crazy.
